Harvest Moon: A New Beginning (3DS) announced for North America

I've never played a HM game but have enjoyed several Rune Factory games. Rune Factory 3 in particular was great. I'd like to get to know the HM series but I'm unsure as to how well it would keep my attention.

This would be a fun game to bet on when the localization will actually come out.

I have April 2013 US, November 2014 for Europe!

The series has improved significantly with each mainline title. RF3 is fucking amazing, definitely one of my favorite RPGs ever - beats out any Harvest Moon title for me.

Oh right cool I may have a look at that then, think it was released not too long a go over here. Any idea on the PS3 one?

Hi Rising Star Games, you know what to do now :)
Fingers crossed. I always like good iterations of HM games.

They are really great people, by the way, I remember getting an nice and useful answer when I emailed them about the ever-changing release date of a previous iteration. They're doing a great job of porting so much good niche games in Europe (even if some ports are far from perfect sometimes)

i'll be extremely, unrealistically optimistic and say by the end of 2012 for NA.
On one hand, Natsume hasn't released a Harvest Moon game within a year of Japanese release since 2004. On the other, Natsume tends to release their games within 5 or so months of being announced for localization.

Oceans is definitely... different. I love the concept, the setting, and the town, but the execution isn't fantastic, unfortunately. If the exploration weren't so restricted I think I'd like it much more, despite it taking the emphasis off of farming and focusing almost solely on combat.

I haven't followed Harvest Moon for a while, but I spent many, many hours in Harvest Moon 64. Is the series still any good?
It has been struggling recently. This one seems to be a return to form, however.

the announcement is what has me thinking it'll be out by the end of the year.

HM fans are so hard to please :(

I get the impression that most people favor the HM game that was the first they played. Mine was A Wonderful Life on GCN, and that is still my all-time favorite HM. I had 3 other friends who's first HM game was also AWL, and that was their favorite as well. I just can't get excited about a Harvest Moon unless its a remake of AWL. I know others are in the same boat as I am, but maybe with another HM game like HM64 or Mineral Town

Q4 in North America according to the 3DS release sheet.

That is insanely fast for a modern HM game...assuming the date holds.

Natsume does have a long standing tradition of multiple HM delays but it hasn't happened much at all recently.

This is a very predictable but nevertheless fantastic news!

Will most definitely buy this.

I mean, the Japanese seems to love it and from what I can see anyone who have played it are viewing this one very very favorably.

I need to play through my yearly Harvest Moon game soon. I'm thinking of going back to the GBC game, played through Magical Melody last year and Friends of Mineral Town the year before.

Glad people are looking to get into the series. It rocks. It's funny, I have trouble getting into Rune Factory but Harvest Moon as held my attention completely since SNES, even through the dips and rises between iterations.

Looks pretty good. I haven't played a Harvest Moon game since PS2 and I was addicted to that shit, might pick this up.

edit: This actually looks more than pretty good. It's like Dark Cloud with farming instead of dungeon crawling.

Fuck. Once again I'll end up having to pass it up for one of my big must-haves of Q4. This is why I've never been able to sit down and really play an HM or Rune Factory game. All I want is for just one of these games to come out during the summer.

Do we even know if we're getting RF4?

Haven't picked up a Harvest Moon since A Wonderful Life, though I'm under the impression that I haven't been missing much. I sincerely hope this one is good!

Speaking of Harvest Moon, the GBC version is coming out on 3DS VC along with legend of the Rvier King. And along with Rune Factory 4 on the horizon, I don't know if I will have a life anymore...

Historically quite a few of the HM games have released in America during the summer!

Also no, we don't know if we're getting RF4 for sure.

I mean, they've localized the other 5 games in the series and just about every single HM game and its one of Natsume's better sellers and it's not even out in Japan yet.

You are so right. A Wonderful Life on the cube is my favorite by far, and it's the only reason every time a new HM is alked about I pay attention at all. I went back and played some of the older classics people like more and couldn't stick with them. HM has charm and I think it's that first time sitting down for a few hours straight that you get it, and that moment can't be re-created. I'll consider the next HM on home consoles though.

Looking good until he literally moved every house he wanted in the town to wherever he wants, I think that's a bit much.. breaks the point a bit

Yeah... I'm not too sure about this entry, which sucks because I really have not been sucked into a harvest moon since friends of mineral town (though I did play a bit of magical melody).

Anyways, I'm hoping this turns out really well because I really want to play a harvest moon again.... I suppose I could just replay fomt, but of course, I don't even remember what I was doing in that game since it's been years. Maybe I'll just restart.

November 6th. Pretty decent, I fully expected mid December.
