Harvest Moon: A New Beginning (3DS) announced for North America

The Yak is gonna be at Gamestop preorders (and Natsume's too).

Harvest Moon and its not even close.

Judging by the sales of Land of Origin vs. RF4 in Japan, it's actually pretty close. RF4 will probably end up with a lower LTD, but only just.

In overseas markets on the other hand... probably still HM by a lot.

There are only six RF games.

RF, RF2, RF Frontier, RF 3, RF Tides of Destiny, RF4.

One of those games was a complete bomb (The terrible Wii/PS3 Tides of Destiny)

Meanwhile there's around 40 HM games. HM is clearly the more profitable series.

Even if you compare just the six most recent HM games all of them outsold the six RF games worldwide.

Yak is so fucking cute. Not clear how you get the cow, but it's clearly different from (and bigger than) from the older cow.

At one point I had all the Plushies, then they started making shitty games so I stopped preordering them.

We have ::looks up on shelf:: cow, sheep, horse, chicken-with-baby-chick, pig, duck, and alpaca. I think we're missing the two dogs and a cat. Is that all of 'em?

looks more like that GameCube version that I'd like, but I've always played the shit out of every harvest moon ever so I'm on board.

Cow is a preorder from Natsume's site of the collector's edition. No price or details other than 12" big cow plushie. Preorder starts on September 24th, but more details should be out before then.

That sounds like all of them from HM 64 on. I know they used a couple of them for more than one game like the Alpaca.

Seems like every couple of years, between the ports, one comes out that is received well in Japan and then when we play it we are disappointed it's not 64

Although, yeah, that has mostly been my path with things as well.
I love the series, and own a bunch of them, but with each one that comes out, I still have this nagging feeling that, "Yeah, it's fun... But I still think I would rather be playing HM64"

It's a very common feeling. There's just something right about that particular title.

Hell Back to Nature only came out a little after it and is basically superior in every way yet still not as fondly remembered. It's HM 64++.

I've been waiting for Back to Nature to go on sale forever on PSN, but with it being confirmed Vita compatible I think I'm just gonna give it up and drop those $5.99.

This. I replay SNES HM and HM 64 every now and then just to be sure that they're wildly better than recent ones.

And they are.

In fact the only HM after 64 I even had fun with was FoMT, but it didn't blow me away.

And yet, I keep buying.

Edit: can't find the link, but a Ntsume exec stated last year that an HM64 port will NEVER happen. His comment seemed to suggest that the code base is either partially lost or a fucking mess

I believe it. Natsume always struck me as completely disorganized. I think we are all kind of hoping for something to match that initial charm and novelty of 64. I miss the obsession, the complete infatuation with it

Natsume were giving away some cow plushies that were similar to this a couple weeks ago if you ordered from their site.
I guess it was smaller or something though.

They can't even release it on Virtual Console as well, I wonder what the issue is.

Didn't realize pre-orders were up already. This completely snuck up on me, but I'll just pre-order it on Amazon since I'm not interested in the plush.

I have a serious problem with the Harvest Moon series.

I will play Friends of Mineral Town to death for a couple of weeks until I've maxed my tools, sprites, marriage, livestock. I will then forget about the series for a year or so and then replay FOMT again.

Even though I own Harvest Moon SNES, Harvest Moon 64, and Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life, and Harvest Moon Save the Homeland, and now I've preordered this new 3DS version, I have yet to play 1 second of any of them because I get so obsessed with FOMT...

FoMT is just an upgraded sequel to 64 anyways. Looks better too.

Save the Homeland is one of the worst games in the series. A Wonderful Life is good but very different and SNES HM is primitive but has a certain charm to it.

Fingers crossed. I always like good iterations of HM games.

They are really great people, by the way, I remember getting an nice and useful answer when I emailed them about the ever-changing release date of a previous iteration. They're doing a great job of porting so much good niche games in Europe (even if some ports are far from perfect sometimes)

As great as they are, and as much as I like them, their rate of release for Harvest Moon and Rune Factory Games lag behind the US releases by almost a year, a year and even 2 years :'( so, January 2014 for Europe.... Please announce Rune Factory 4 as well now =P so we'll wait less.
