Has a game ever made you cry?

Flat out cry? Never

Getting teary eyed? Sometimes.

The one time i recall with most "joy" is a segment of Mass Effect (2 or 3 - can't recall exactly), where Legion says something like "Sheppard? Good Luck".

It really struck something in me. Anyone remembers this part?

I distinctly recall Planetarian. Maybe I was really emotional that night, because before and after that at worst I get a bit teary eyed, by a lot of games that were already mentioned in this thread.

Disgaea 1 ending
when flonne died, not even kidding

Jeanne D'arc PSP super underrated game
when Liane gets burned at the stake holy hell

Absolutely.

I can't think of specifics right now, but there definitely are some.

Yes. Several times.

ME3's build up to the big finale. Those final moments with your crew: Garrus' speech, Joker's salute. Losing Mordin and Legion hit me hard too. Mordin singing as he gets ready to face certain death and Legion, in his final moments, using the singular pronoun 'I' instead of the collective 'we', indicating that he finally recognizes that he /is/ an individual.

DA:O's Cousland reunion with the PC's dad was pretty sad as well.

TLOU's opening prologue with Sarah's death. And also, the part where Joel’s critically injured, suffering from that gaping wound in his stomach and Ellie has managed to drag him into some garage. When she places a blanket over him and lays down next to him-- as close to him as she could get, hands tucked under one cheek, something in that moment really got me.

FFIX's closing epilogue with Vivi's monologue and his implied death made me tear up way back when I first played that game too.

Edit: Telltale's TWD. Lee's death. Tears. So many tears.

I think it got me the most during the Hanako storyline, breakdown scene and finale.

To The Moon, Undertale, The Walking Dead S1, and (surprising to me) I nearly cried while I played Tales from the Borderlands.

Actually Emi's storyline had the most emotional impact for me.

Ren's story gave me a bunch of emotions as well but I don't think any of them were positive (which is good she was written that way intentionally!).

Like part of me thinks it's the game itself, but I think it connected with me and some of my own personal feelings about love and relationships that made me think a lot about myself and what I'm doing with my life.

Oh for sure. There were things that definitely resonated with me on a personal level like
Kate's Suicide attempt ]and how bullied she was.
Brought up a lot of feelings and emotions I had around the same age regarding the same things. Chloe reminded me of a lot of some people I used to know as well. And I'd almost posit (and I'll totally admit that this is me really projecting here) that the awkward dialog almost seemed more authentic in a way? Like in the way of teens being bad at expressing themselves sort of way.

Nope. There was a flash game about depression and/or transitioning that I found very emotionally moving, though. I'm not trans but have witnessed some folks go through the transition and it was very powerful.

Life is Strange is the only one where I legitimately broke down.

Got teary-eyed(not actual crying) with quite a few games like TLOU, Journey, Brothers, The Walking Dead and Shadow of the Colossus. Probably a couple more but those are the ones which come to mind.

I get way too invested :p

Edit: Part in Life is Strange which got me https://youtu.be/WirYU0cYD0E?t=2403

Full blown bawling, nothing so far. But the following came as close as anything else.

Half Life 2 - Episode 2 - The ending got to me, to the point I still think about it 8 years later.

The Walking Dead S1 - This has by far the closest a game had come to make me bawl. I was so sad when Lee was talking to Clementine. My eyes were swelling up, I had a knot in my throat.

The Last of Us - The part where they are trying to escape the hospital got to me.

No. But TLOU, PoP '08, TLoZ: Windwaker, and KH1 all made me feel something deeper than most games. The opening for TLOU and all the endings for the other games.

Life is Strange and Brothers have come closest for me. Didn't actually cry with either of them but both hit me emotionally.

LEGO Island when I watched the Brickster wreak havoc on the poor citizens of the island due to my stupid negligence in delivering a hot spicy pizza to him in jail even though deep down I knew it was a bad idea and now everyone else is paying for it

Way to open old wounds.

Never flat out bawling, but these made me tear up

Life Is Strange
FF7
Beginning of Ori
Beginning of Last of Us
Persona 3 Portable
MGS3 ending
And Elite Beat Agents. If you've played it, you know which one I'm talking about.

Lee and Clementine at the end of The Walking Dead Season 1. I had moist eyes right through the credits.

The end of Shadow of the Colossus when Agro
triumphantly limps back up the stairs
- moist eyes again.

That's the only 2 that I can remember but there may have been more. Journey didn't but it was magnificent. Red Dead Redemption didn't but equally it was magnificent.

I haven't but I actually consider my top 3 games of all time to be the ones that made me come the closest. So they would be Kingdom Hearts 2 (358/2 days' ending moreso), Persona 4 Golden, and Metal Gear Solid 3.

The ending of Crisis Core had me tearing up. Even though I knew the conclusion, was actively playing towards it with the expectation of when it'll end, when that final hour came it hit me hard. Wave after wave of SOLDIER with the music playing, the slot machine slowly breaking, the faces and memories of friends flying past. That was how you orchestrate an ending.

Only other game to make me misty was Grandia. Sue was the real MVP.

Final Fantasy X ending.
To the Moon ending.

FFX mostly because of the music, To the Moon was because of the everything.

I remember getting emotional when I beat Link to the Past as a kid too, because it felt like an incredible journey had come to an end. Can't remember if I cried.
