Has anyone else stopped buying games at launch?

Yes. I bought TTT2, DOA5, OP Pirate Warriros, Tales of Graces f at launch. Games I look forward to, that I wanna play. I just buy.

There are still so many games coming out that will be day 1 for me: TLoU, Ninokuni, GoW:A etc.
 
I only buy a select few at launch anymore.

RE6 was originally a day one for me, but after the demo, I'll wait until it hits $30 or less. No reason to spend $60 on a game that is kinda disappointing.

Halo 4 is the one I plan on getting day one this year no matter what. Plus my backlog is huge anyway.
 
Witcher 2 and soon to be NBA 2K13.

I never pay more than $40 a game now unless its really special like that Ni No Kuni Collectors.
 
Only if there is an excellent CE, I probably won't ever get something at launch. Unless it's already discounted like Borderlands was for me.

So no, I haven't stopped buying games at release. Wouldn't be the same without the release hype and the constant fear as if you'll get the game before the weekend or not. ;)

I actually miss the old days when you had to go to the local store and buy a game at release. Those bus rides back to home..... *argh* Good ol' days.
 
Since switching over to pc I've never bought a game on launch anymore, unless I could find a sweet deal on say GMG or D2D that was closer to 20-30 euro than say 60 euro.
 
I only buy a new launch game on an absolute must have, this is going to be the best game ever, cannot wait it's driving me nuts type title. I did get good deals though on every day one release. Borderlands 2 was my most recent with the 45% off GMG deal.
 
I have just been abusing the GreenManGaming coupon deals to get new releases for 30 bucks.

That is about what the price will be down to by the time the first Steam sale rolls around that they are part of.

I'll day one some indie/downloadable stuff for full price though.
 
may pick up black ops 2 and halo 4 for 360. Not sure about AC3.

again, I may just watch the cutscenes on youtube. save emoney !
 
Yes and no. I have no problems paying full whack for FIFA and I also bought Resident Evil 6 full price (against my better judgement). I will also probably buy Assassins Creed 3 and a small handful of Wii U games on launch later this year.

I'd say in a normal year without a hardware launch i buy around 3 to 4 games day one. Everything else I wait for ÂŁ20 or less.
 
Games don't go on sale after 1 year here. And it's like $5-10 off only. So it's either I buy day one or wait for a year.
 
No i still buy day one games that i'm very eager to play (regardless of my ridiculous backlog). The problem is that less and less games look appealing enough to me to make me excited for a day one purchase.In 2012 i only bought 3 day one games and there's nothing coming out in the rest of the year that interests me enough to do that again.

Ni no kuni will be my next day one game.
 
Nope, I'm usually ahead of releases and waiting for the next, so I mostly buy on launch. Games I'm not so hyped for, are known to be short or that get lower scores I usually wait a while for them to fall in price.
 
I almost always wait for games to get cheaper, last game I got at launch was Uncharted 3.

Sales kick in so fast now its worth the wait of 3-6 months
 
I'm far more relaxed about not buying games at launch, and I have no problems skipping hardware launches as well by now.

However there are a few games per year that I want as soon as they come out, but those titles get fewer and fewer (this holiday season they are/were Borderlands 2 and Assassin's Creed 3).

very few games collapse locally and it is the bad ones usually. the only guaranteed good and cheap games are platinum hits/greatest hits/nintendo selects but the wait for those is long often.

I've cut down, but I definitely still do it quite a lot. It's imports that are toughest to wait on as they generally don't drop much in price and if they do, it's months if not years later.
 
Anything I'm really interested in I buy tend to buy right away, a lot of the time I'll pre-order online. I just really want to play most games right away. It's not cost effective, but I don't mind paying full-ish price to be able to play right away. Most games locally will have a slight discount at launch and then it takes a more significant amount of time for a larger price drop. Online imports can work out to cheaper prices, but I don't like waiting weeks for shipping.
 
Unless I'm going to play it right away, I do not buy games at launch, anymore. I slip up every now and then, but I'm getting better and better. I don't think I'm alone.

I'm curious when the industry will acknowledge the post-launch week sales as being significant. There are more milestones in a product's life than the first 7 - 30 days of release. I'm sometimes envious of the Movie method, where you have the Theatre and Physical Release milestones. Games don't always have an easy equivalent.
 
I do try to play games at launch but I rent the majority of my games now, through my lovefilm subscription, and for any I do buy I'll hunt for bargains e.g. I'm getting Dishonored next week for ~ÂŁ25.

Last game I bought at launch was Mass Effect 3, and it was half price about 2 weeks later probably due to massive overshipping; yeah, really kicked myself over that one.

I think I have around 200 games, and out of those maybe 5 were bought at full price. So it's not that I stopped buying games at launch, I never did that in the first place.
 
Buy more or less exclusive from Greenmangaming.

So glad I switched to PC from the consoles, better looking games, 60fps, mods, futureproof (BC) and new games are about 30-35 dollars from GMG (consoles are about 80-90 dollars here in sweden).
 
Very rarely... Got Dragon's Dogma more or less at launch; and am picking up XCom next week pre-ordered. (also grabbed Tokyo Jungle the other day if that counts... I'll grab XBLA/PSN games when I feel like)

Eases the pain a bit when going halves on both of them with flatmate (and I'll probably end up owning them anyway because he doesn't care). Last year I think the only game I got at launch (or even close to) was Dark Souls.

Otherwise; I just generally wait; for a whole gamut of reasons... triple figure backlog, dlc, pre-order "bonuses", no time, over hyped games, overly boring/shallow/repetitive games, GotY editions; and can get them for $20 to $30 a few months later vs $80 to $100 at launch? No brainer in my world.
 
I only buy games I really want to play day one nowadays, the rest I can pick up when they drop in price or if a sale is on.
 
I'll buy Halo 4 and the Wii U stuff at launch, but other than that I completely stopped to buy stuff at launche because games lose their high price so fucking fast and I don't have that much time anyway for games since I need to post cool stuff on GAF
 
Never used to, just started last year in the fantastic couple of weeks of great releases (Skyward Sword, MW3, Saints Row 3, Uncharted 3). Then bought Twisted Metal and Max Payne on release day and havent bought a game since then :0
 
If I'm really excited for a game I'll get it day 2 so that I can check the forums and verify that it isn't a Red Orchestra 2 situation, where the press and forums have hyped the hell out of a game that turns out to be a buggy incomplete mess. I also stopped buying games from EA and Activision and noticed that I regret fewer of my purchases.
 
I only buy new games if there is a decent preorder bonus or is a sequel I am highly looking forward too (P4G and Virtue's Last Reward, hell even Blops2). But most games I just get later, especially since they usually have a $20 off sale 3 months later or it's only $25 6 months later.
 
I basically never buy games at launch, with the exception of a few special ones. (Zelda games, Portal 2, maybe a few others)

Why would I buy at launch when I could get the same game for cheaper later anyway? It isn't like I don't have games to play in the meanwhile. :p
 
Yes, except for the games that I really want to play. It wasn't something I decided to do but something that just happened. Last year I probably bought 30 games day 1 (Brink was one of those ffs), this year I only bought 4 and 2 of those already had a 25% discount.
 
I've got a backlog to keep me entertained and I don't play online so I see little point in buying titles at launch.

Usually I'll wait for the game of the year edition to hit €20 then buy it.
 
Soul Calibur V recently hit 30 bucks at Target. Time to buy.

Got DOA 5 at launch, but I had a $30 Best Buy gift card they gave me for buying something else a few months ago, so it was only $35 out of pocket.

Saints Row 3 still needs to get cheaper.
 
Just psn games like Tokyo Jungle and MtG 2013. My secret is gamefly now, got Borderlands 2 right when it came out. Do not think I will ever buy another $60.00 title on launch day. Am I part of the problem?
 
Download service games are worth getting at launch to me because the price is more accessible to me, and because I don't have to go interact with a human in order to get it. For retail games, I don't even remember the last game I bought for myself at full price. Probably like... the first Crackdown?

I used to really get something out of being able to discuss games on day 1, but now I'm always so late to jump in that I don't even follow most game news.
 
The only brand new console game I've purchased lately was Mass Effect 3 CE (yeah, I'm a bit of a fanboy). PC games, however, I've purchased Guild Wars 2, Borderlands 2 (at $37.50) and Mists of Pandaria (only because I'm an idiot and did the annual pass, so I might as well) just in the last 2 months. With PC game discounts and such I seem to be more inclined to pay for those earlier...when in reality I'd actually be better off getting these releases for consoles and trading them in while their value is still high.

Oh well. I also can't justify buying any more console games until I finish the crazy backlog I have, or at least give up on some of the games there.

Bought this at ~$13 during the steam sales, two copies--one for a friend, one for me. We played the entire game co-op in a local LAN. As someone who can't stand the GTA series or anything like it...I F'in loved this game. It doesn't try to be serious about itself--SR3 knows it's a video game and has a damn good amount of fun reminding you of that fact. Once console gets below $15 or so I highly recommend it.
 
Excluding Tekken Tag 2, I haven't for a long time

This is ignoring the deals that GMG and such have for preorders. Got Sleeping Dogs and Darksiders 2 for around $35 and Borderlands 2 for a bit less than that
 
The only time I buy games at launch is if I get them at a discount. Normally I wouldn't be getting Halo at launch but since I have a $20 credit to Amazon and it's something I'll be playing for a while I might as well jump on it.

Plus I really don't plan on getting any other games til Stick of Truth drops. Or Last of Us. Whichever releases first.
 
I actually buy at launch more than before.

Not talking about pre-orders (that is only for hugely anticipated games) but if there is a game that I see worth the investment, I'd rather buy it "sooner than later" to make sur that I "vote" financialy for the games that worth it.

Now, I'll refrain myself, because I just can't keep up with the number of games that leave me to play. (I play 5 to 10 hours a week max, so I can't actually finish more than 1 to 2 games a month).

But yeah, I don't look for the better bang for my bucks but rather to give my financial support to titles that worth it.
