Has J.J. Abrams ever directed a bad movie?

imo Star Trek '09 is one of the best sci-fi movies I've ever seen.

Into Darkness was aight and Super 8's second half was weak as hell, but I'll follow Abrams anywhere.

I'm honestly a little surprised that some people trash STID but liked 09.

They both basically feel like the same movie.

Honestly I found all of his movies pretty bad. Did not like either Star Trek movie nor MI:3. Super 8 was easily the worst though.

I'm highly skeptical on how Episode 7 will turn out, but I'm hoping for the best.

No. Wow but no. ha ha

Have we given up on actually engaging on dialogue on this forum, or is it just a repository of "no, you idiot" responses now?

I feel ST09 and STID have very similar plot/emotional beat structures due to the Kurtzman/Orci "patented Hollywood blockbuster scriptwriting 101" backbone coursing throughout. If you had them playing side-by-side, you'd probably see similar events happen in very much the same time intervals in each act (from your now-requisite Kirk/Pike mentor talk, to the mid-story villain backstory dump, etc.). Even most of the major act setpieces feel recycled between them (space jump, Enterprise being blown out of the sky by vastly superior villain ship, infiltrating the innards of the villain ship).

Absolutely fantastic film and really well shot. Some of the best sound mixing I've ever heard as well. The bluray itself is really good.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Don't listen the majority of this forum on movies or music, if your taste disagrees with theirs you should be fine.
Thanks. I'll watch it.
