I really hate how Sony positions/explains PS STUDIOS.... as stand-in branding for "first/second party game", it lives to create confusion.

Death Stranding posters contain a PS Studios logo, but KojiPro isn't a... PS... Studio... it's still independent (as far as we know yet).

What was wrong with PS Exclusive or simillar branding for games only, and PS Studios for studios which... you know... belong to PS?

Its worse than having a TV service and not calling it PSTV -- oh wait, never mind.

I'm on a 4k monitor and that far left panel of the image is barely visible in Chrome. Have to zoom out to see it lol

I'm pretty sure if Sony actually bought Kojipro they wouldn't have them represented like that. It's one thing to put DS there when it's a 1st party IP it's another when it's a 1st party studio run by one of the most famous devs lol

Btw, Kojima departed from Konami so we could have full artistic fredoom, makes no sense for him to get acquired unless he was in financial trouble.

they leaked bluepoint like this lol. Do sony never learn. Rumours also say a Japanese studio, hoped it was konami,capcom, or sega, ohh well better then nothing i quess.

You're getting a lot of flack, but this is an interesting update that wasn't there before.

What is the purpose of adding this game to the banner now? We also know that Demon's Souls was added to the banner as was Returnal.

The other thing to consider is Sony let this game be published by someone else on PC. For them to suddenly claim this, suggests a huge shift.

It's also interesting to see Concrete Genie bumped off the banner.

Outriders? That's not on the cover. MLB is made by a first party dev which is the point of discussion. DS is the only one not made by a fp dev

Wanting artistc freedom was definitley not why he left Konami lol. That was just a benefit of getting out of that toxic workplace

Sony owns San Diego Studio. And Outriders isn't anywhere on that page lol

Its an image made by Sony to represent the studios they own. 1 character per studio. Every studio is owned by SIE.

That combined with Kojima moving from his studio last week I think it's a given that something has happened. Sony's building is in the other side of the street and probably has plenty of space after they axed Japan Studios.

If Sony has really bought KojiPro I hope that he'll also take the role of producer for some other Sony games as well (specially if Sony goes after Konami IPs), he was a pretty good producer when working for Konami. They could expand the studio to take the role that Japan Studios used to have.

That Insomniac tweet that was the source of all of this was insufferable when it was posted, and it gets more insufferable every time someone "Well, um, AKTUALLY second party isn't a real term"'s lol

It's hilarious because Sony literally had a guy whose title was "Head of Global Second Party Games" working for them until November of 2019 lol

I kind of expect sony to buy all their partner studios, Haven was just first up. Sony is not gonna invest all that money into a new studio to let them walk off and be beneficial to their competitors who are all buying up talent.

Sony and others like to use second party and first party interchangeably. Just further cements how much of a stupid term it is.

Kojima needs to get back on mgs though and make the final part in Outer Heaven with Young Snake vs Big Boss / Venom Snake.

Also, and while I don't necessarily care for hypothesizing acquisitions unless something's officially said, considering Kojima's obsession with wanting to tell stories, do films, probably anime etc., Sony would be a pretty strategy company to at least form a strategic partnership with, if not be acquired by.

I mean like you said, they have Sony Pictures, Sony Television, Crunchyroll/Funimation (which while they don't make their own anime, they can do so in the same way Netflix does) etc. and now the investments in Epic for stuff like UE5.

The stupid thing is using them interchangeably IMO

It's a useful term that nobody had any problem understanding until someone at Sony/Insomniac decided to be a dweeb about it.

Those games aren't just published by Sony. They are developed by their own studios.
Returnal and Demon's Souls were only added to that banner after Housemarque and Bluepoint were acquired. The games had been released for a while by then.

But...why? He is already making games for them. I dont understand this new trend where every studio now needs to be bought. BluePoint was making SONY exclusive games for 10+ years without being bought by them. Which is why when they finally have been scooped up, i didnt understand the hype. Owned or not owned they still made SONY exclusive games ONLY. It only makes sense buying a third party studio thats massive like EA or Bethesda or Activision as then you are pretty much keeping a whole library of games for yourself

My guess is that someone in marketing updated the banner with updates to Horizon and GT7 and someone else in marketing accidentally uploaded an updated banner that wasn't ready to go out yet.

Took another 3 months for Bluepoint's announcement.

They deleted the original tweet, but they haven't taken this banner down, so it's interesting.
