Has the PSP been worth it so far?

For those of you who own one, have the features and games been up to snuff for your tastes?

Is the cost you sunk into it returned in form of mothafuckin' entertainment?

In a word, no.

The "media" stuff isn't useful to me. I'd never in my life buy a UMD. I can't play FF6 or SMRPG on homebrew, so that's much less intruiging for me.

And, as a strictly game device, I won't even go into it.

It's obviously a powerful, sexy device, and it (still) has all the potential in the world, but it's just stuck in a rut. PS2 ports aren't doing well, and I could care less about. Interesting titles are hard to come by. Ports are the majority of the next purchases I'm getting.

Hi Drinky.

definitely
i been playin it since i bought it at launch...but even now i still get an orgasm when holdin that sexy little beast in my hands, playin GTA and sayin to myself HOLY F***ING SHIT I CANT BELIEVE THESE GRAPHICS!!!1

I don't give a damn about buying UMDs, but ripping DVDs/music, and having it all be on one device is great for traveling vs. carrying a gaming device, personal DVD player, and an MP3 player.

But that's not really why I bought it. It's about the games.

I've had my PSP for less than a month, and I've certainly gotten my money's worth:

DJ Max Portable
Lumines
Wipeout Pure
Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee
Exit
Ridge Racer
Gripshift

as of thursday, yes.

For my tastes, as of yet, no. I've no regrets though, as I have no doubt by the end of this year I'll have an assload of games that get my noodle going and my money's worth. :D

Media wise? Yes, absolutely, i love listening to gamespot, 1UP and all the other podcasts I get for it. I also appreciate being able to watch movies wherever I am. Games? Not so much. It hasn't been terrible, but there hasn't been a game that's made me think "this was a worthwhile investment". I'm expecting that to change though, March will be a big month for PSP. There are also a good number of titles that look or sound interesting beyond that, Tomb Raider, David Jaffe's HL project, and Killzone: Liberation to name a few.

My brother got one with GTA.

I like the game and it's really amazing it's possible on a handheld console, but I wouldn't pay €350 for it.

Don't know for any other games though. Katamari seems worthy.

/edit: Oh, I get it :+ :+

Well this is my whishlist:

Every Extend Extra.
CapCom Puzzle world.
Lumines
Puzzle Bobble Pocket.
Ape Escape Academy
Virtua Tennis
LocoRoco
Powerstone Collection.
Monster hunter Freedom.

It is only for gaming on holidays and late in the evening on a hotsummer in the garden...

definitly yes,

experienced the drought after the launch, but the games are picking up recently. i'm loving MHX, SFA3, and DJ Max.

I've had my PSP since the U.S. launch, and I can say that without a doubt it's been worth it so far. I love that thing probably a little too much, and with games like LocoRoco on the horizon and Me & My Katamari being prepped for U.S. release, I can't complain. :)

Lately I've been playing Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX and Lumines (still). Virtua Tennis had me addicted for a while, as well.

I'm a nut job and basically bought it for Wipeout Pure alone - and i got plenty of play out of that which made it worth it for me :) But i actually haven't touched it for a couple months now.

I have an ipod/digicam and dont want to spend money on memory cards, so i dont use it for video/music/pics. I don't 'get' the whole UMD thing, probably cause i rarely use it 'on the go', i'm usually plugged in at home. So whenever it comes time to buy a new video, DVD FTW. Btw i don't have a PS2.

I'm looking forward to getting MHX in a week or so from liksang, and down the track Ultimate GnG, Tekken, Outrun and GT:Mobile if it ever comes out. If Sega released VF4 Final Tuned i'd say i'd be perfectly content with that collection and nothing else ever :)

Absolutely. There's plenty of games I enjoy on it and a butt load more coming down the way. I also utilize all the multimedia capabilities and it's become a part of me because of that. Everything I need in one handheld.

If you'd asked me..ooooooh 2 weeks ago I'd have say HELL no. Fuck this thing.

Alas, way too much good shit and landed, and EVEN more is on the way.

So all this gets is a big 'ol

Hell yeah

No in my opinion. I had a lot of faith in the system but Sony's moves with the firmware have screwed me a lot.
I only own 3 games so far and the only one I barelly play is Lumines. I beat Ridge Racer in the first month, and realized Darkstalkers was unplayable in the first 5 minutes, thanks to the great D-PAD. That made the system pretty worthless if you ask me, because all the good games that came later required firmware updates.
Why do I have to update the firmware ? I want to continue beating SNES games on my PSP. I enjoyed a lot playing FFV or Plok! on the way and so far I don't want to say no to them. So this has meant no GTA, no SFZ3 (in which I lost faith after DarkStalkers thanks to the D-PAD), no Exit, no Gradius Portable or no game needing a firmware update.

I guess at the end I'll have to update if I want to do something profitable with my PSP...but hell...losing the ability to play SNES games is what is stopping me right now.

Hey I still have not traveled with my PsP
And thatÂ’s whatÂ’s it's made for right BAM!

and.... if you only play a game 5 mins and donÂ’t try to learn the controls...
sucks 4 YOU
The last 50 cent player

Absolutely! I never had so much fun with a portable system.

Ridge Racer, Hot Shots Golf, Grand Theft Auto LCS and Tales of Eternia made this device my portable of choice.

Yes, being able to listen to Shoutcast radio stations wirelessly on my PSP is a godsend (only homebrew though).

I'm still amazed though that I haven't bought Hot Shots Golf for the PSP

Yes, but my standards are admittedly low. I considered the Jaguar 'worth it' just for AvP and Tempest. Maverick Hunter has definitely pushed the PSP past the 'worth it' line...hell, it almost got there just with Mercury, the game I bought it for.

...and that's for me. When people ask me if they should get one, I say no.

For me, it wasn't.
I imported one from japan, and sold it to a "friend" a few days later because of stuck pixels and being disappointed about the games.
Maybe I will buy one agin if it gets cheaper (far too expensive for me, because I only care about it as a gaming device) or I will wait for a redesign.

Definitely, but I have barely played any games on it for months now. Instead, I use it quite a lot for watching movies and surfing the net. But don't misunderstand...there are definitely games I want for PSP, it's just that I don't buy handheld games on a regular basis...I buy them when I feel like it and rarely feel any anticipation for a game strong enough to make me want to buy it on day one.

For me it was a good buy but you need to have a good eye with any console before buy some games that are overhyped.

Now my PSP is with Ridge Racer, Everybody Golf and GTA LCS and no one can say that these three games are bad games.

My next purchase will be Lumines, Virtua Tennis and WipeOut Pure.

PSP becomes a MUST HAVE for me once Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins arrives :D
This will certainly be the best looking 2D platformer ever. But if it's as hard as Ghouls 'n Ghosts, it will unfortunately be another broken game on the PSP, because of the damned dpad.

No one cares about your opinion of PSP or its games, marc. Trust me.

Anyway, PSP has not quite returned my investment yet. Need a few more titles. Loco Roco, New Metal Gear, and fuckin' DEVIL MAY CRY (wtf is it, Capcom?)

I don't see it as "was it worth it". I see it as if you're a big gamer like most of us, you should definately own one cos there WILL be some damn good games for it and already are.

Some great games coming out and hopefullt they bring out the old RPG re-releases to Europe as we missed it first time round.
