I've had a Wii U since launch and it has saved me.....heaps of money because I only have 7 games for it and the power cord hasn't been plugged in for atleast 5 months.
What's so hard to believe about people buying the games they've asked Nintendo to make for years? I agree that having Zelda out "late" compared to being out last year isn't as clear cut as them simply waiting to start development but all the games he listed would push massive numbers of Wii U consoles.
Wii U is my most played console, and I even log more hours on it than I do on my decent PC. I don't have a PS4 or XBOne yet, no need - though I'll get one or the other at some point. (scalebound? maybe.)It's totally subjective. OP clearly isn't speaking in the context of market share, mind-share, capabilities, number of games. Only within context of his/her subjective opinion...which is kind of far.
Maybe 'The Wii-U saved this gen for me' would have been a more appropriate thread title and jumping-off point. There are a number of gaffers who only go PC-WiiU or claim WiiU is their most played console. It's not insane the suggest the console has some value.
I own a Wii U and I don't agree with the OP. In fact, it's probably my least used system. So your statement is just plain stupid.I think from the other replies it is clear who does and doesn't own a Wii U here.
Same. Bayonetta 2 was cool, Smash and Mario Kart too, but I don't think I've used my Wii U in months. Maybe since Christmas, I got Donkey Kong and quite enjoyed it. I use my PS4 way more than my Wii U. I actually use my PS3 more than it too (there's always a backlog to work through, Final Fantasy XIII at the moment, I want to die).I own a Wii U and I don't agree with the OP. Agreed.Tropical Freeze
Pikmin 3
Mario Kart 8
Bayo 2
3D World
Each of these is a master class in their respective genre.
NSMBU
W101
Smash Bros
These are each great games.
And there's other random things like Captain Toad, WindWaker, etc. Plus upcoming games like Xenoblade, Zelda, Wooly World and more.
If you're able to enjoy a wide variety of titles, and don't feel the need to avoid any of these, Wii U has been fantastic. If you're picky about genre, yeah it's gonna suck for you. You have to be ready to go with Nintendo's flow.
Agreed.
The inscecent want for third party suport in this thread baffles me. Third party =/= quality games. No, the Wii U isn't a commercial success because of that and other factors. It remains a great console with some of the best games of these past years. I seriously can't understand how some people claim to like video games but act disgusted because Nintendo games "aren't mature enough" or "no COD no buy". But that's another debate I suppose.
Wii U saved nothing because this gen doesn't yet need saving. It's still a great console to have.
I only own a PS4 and WiiU this gen and wish I only purchased the WiiU.
l own over 20 games for the WiiU and only own 4 on the PS4. The only game I've really enjoyed on the PS4 was P.T.
I'm obviously not in the majority, but Nintendo has given me much more enjoyment this gen than Sony or Microsoft.
from what? 3rd parties?
It's just an excuse tbh. No one would buy a 3rd party Wii U game when they could get it on PS4 or PC. There is literally no point to multiplats on Wii U. It's just a fallback reason for people to ridicule the console.
Tell that to Nintendo. With the Splatoon DLC fiasco is clear they are also feeling the heat of having months with barren retail content between retail releases.
The BS that should end is the narrative of "they don't need third parties. They can sustain themselves".
Its funny considering every exclusive that gets announced for any system there is salt on all sides then when theres a third party games coming they either going crazy over a downgrade, DLC season passes and all that other junk. People love posing like they enjoy video games but if something aint selling good they dont like it lol. Its not even about games then, mechanics, art, gameplay, level design, music.. none of that exist after they come to that conclusion.Agreed.

3rd parties aren't going to help them either.
No one is going to buy CoD on a Wii U.
The point isn't whether this is a sustainable model. Clearly it's not.
Agreed.

Well tbh I thought most older gamers would see my point of view, I've grown up with all the systems since the 2600, including all the mainstream UK home computers and the one constant throughout that has always been Nintendo, any other generation and it may not be something to shout about but so far this has been the worst generation outside of the Nintendo platform that I've suffered, so for me it's just highlighted how important Nintendo's first party has been for this generation, without it I seriously think I might of got bored of gaming for the first time in my life and I've been gaming for over 30 years.
Remember I did ask a question in the title, it wasn't a blanket statement, for me it clearly did, and tbh I didn't think it was going to be completely out of the realms of possibility that others may feel the same way, but if it didn't for you then fair do's.
And the only camp I'm in is the gaming one.

The gen is still young, but yes, so far it's more or less the sole redeeming factor.
