Tablets are incredible and have basically over-turned and slowly (well not that slowly) destroying the home consumer PC market for a reason.

edit: lol what is going on with that weird chinese rip-off tablet advertisement post

Ripoff of what?

Posting from my Nexus 10. Best tech purchase I've made in a long time. Is my go to device. Comics, Netflix, and emulators with my PS3 controller connected via Bluetooth is a blast.

I picked up a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.0(7 inch) just a month or so after building my PC and this little thing is amazing. Being able to carry my textbooks, class notes(whatever I can get into digital form) and education related videos(go go Khan Academy) on the go is pretty kickass and easier on my back. Other stuff like the browser, app selection and SD storage in a portable computer no thicker than a pencil makes this it a great investment. The next tablet I buy has to be something like the Galaxy note for the bigger screen and a great pen for studying/note taking.

Nothing beats a good old fashioned keyboard and mouse on a laptop, though. The PC is king for any intensive work and gaming too.

I had an iPad 2, a Archos Android tablet, and a Asus transformer. They at first were everything machines. I'd use them over the laptop (Sync'd tabs of course) so I can wander the house while still surfing, and I would take them over my laptop on trips..

However that lasted maybe a month each, and now it's kind of a glorified e-reader that I leave connected to my TV for media and games. Except for the iPad which was regifted to family since I couldnt find any uses for it anymore. Luckily Android is a fuckton more flexible in this regard, as it just runs XBMC and has KB/M for media and is connected to PS3 controllers for games

I LOVE the form factor and portability of tablets, but until I get one that can REPLACE my laptop, I'll be OK without.

I have a Sony Tablet S and while I love it and use it every day. For a gaming device, it's ok for the occasional casual game, but not for anthing remotely approaching a serious game for me. I primarily use it as a web browser simply because my older Xperia x10a phones screen is too tiny for me, and the tablets 9.4" screen hits a pretty good sweet spot for size and portability.

While I do have a Vita, using it for video playback and web browsing just isn't as good as the tablet due to screen size. On the flipside of course, tablet gaming can't even come close to approaching what the Vita can do with its physical controls. I REALLY did try to give gaming a serious try on the tablet and it sucked donkey balls with the on-screen controls. Plus I didn't like having to drag around a Dual Shock 3 with me to play with physical controls on the tablet... after about 5 times I just gave up on that.

I have an older VAIO laptop, but my parents use it so it's not an option for me to use. Even if it were, I think I'd still prefer the tablet just because it's a lot smaller and more comfortable to use in bed. There's room for improvement on the typing side of things, but I can live with that.

I admit I'm tempted to buy the upcoming Xperia Tablet Z cause it's a sexy, powerful beast that's amazingly thin. The screen is a bit larger than my current tablet, which would be great but a part of me wishes Sony would put out an even larger tablet, maybe 13" or so in the same form factor as the Tablet Z. Ah well, wait and see what they do release globally... hopefully we get more info at MWC

No ad, just got the thing last month and giving my little ultra mini review.
For people that are turned off by the price of tablets there are many options that don't cost an arm and a leg.

Check out these brands, they really are high quality.

Ramos
Ainol
Onda

I love the convenience of a tablet.
I can carry many of my PDF and work documents instead of binders full of paper.

I get home plug in my USB hub with my HDD and printer, connect my bluetooth keyboard and mouse and I'm using it like a PC.

Its really useful.

There are options outside of the expensive big name brands.

I scoffed at tablets until I finally bought one.

I truly believe they are the perfect Internet Consumption Devices. This may sound weird, but when I'm holding it, browsing through Flipboard or NeoGAF with a cup of coffee, it just feels so right... so personal.

That being said, I still need a laptop and/or a desktop PC, because there are just some things you can't do yet, or can do better, on the latter.

After initially being really excited about my wife's iPad, I find myself wishing I had a powerful laptop instead.

However, a 5-inch device like the Note would be great for casual browsing, etc.

I really want one to replace my dying netbook, just not sure which one to get. I'd prefer a Windows 8 one and am waiting for the second generation to come out and work out the kinks and maybe a price drop.

The day they make a Vita Tablet is the day I shall:

1) become a quivering mass of glee
2) buy 2
3) run up to Kaz's house and hug him

That is what I truly want out of a tablet. It's already a great sort of device for the internet, but if I can't seriously game on it, then frack that. A slide out keyboard would be nice too, but that would add too much bulk. Toss in an accessory case with a keyboard and we're set there.

I'll be sold on tablets when it's the microsoft surface, but on an ipad 3 width noise/size. with all the extra best stuff the surface has, at that point it has replaced laptops.

So no, not yet.

At first I used to think tablets were useless, but now I simply LOL @ people who prefer to use laptops for web browsing on the couch/around the house. My iPad is used for 99% of web browsing at the house...I'm typing on it right now, while my very powerful laptop sits on the desk powered off.

Unless I change jobs in the near future, I won't be buying a PC anytime soon, but I'll definitely snag the next iPad that comes out.

I use it as a replacement for my laptop. Its good for browsing, reading, playing old games, and watching videos. Watching videos around the house is a big plus since I am able to resume from where I left off with Netflix if I need to move away from my PC. Typing isn't great but is made bearable because of Swype. I also like being able to look up guides or tips when I am gaming instead of alt-tabbing all the time.

The Kindle is the only thing that comes close to a tablet that really does it for me, simply because I find reading on it to be such a relief from staring at a backlit screen which is a real strain.

I've messed around with my Dad's Ipad extensively and I just don't understand the appeal or what it can achieve when you have a laptop and a smartphone already. I suppose in some ways it's easier to navigate, but that's never been a problem for me. I just don't see it. Maybe I'm terribly misinformed.

I also don't feel the need to be on the internet or an electronic device constantly so that might have something to do with it.

Same. BFFs.

I absolutely adore my Motorola Xoom. It's a far better internet browsing device than my laptop. I used to lug it around for light web browsing but now it's essentially chained to my desk. The Xoom is far more convenient. It's much lighter, lasts far longer on a charge, and doesn't blast my lap with heat.

Love my ipad. Basically do everything but type papers and games on it. Loooove that i can remote connect to my desktop too. No need to get up

I know it's odd, but the constant upgrade cycle has made me really reluctant to buy anything. A tablet would be really handy for me, since my current laptop is five years old and really showing its age, but the upgrades all seem to be worth waiting for.

No, quite the opposite. I picked up a Touchpad during the $100 fire sale but sold it a few months ago and bought an old Kindle, as I was basically using the Touchpad as an e-reader.

I bought my refurbed iPad 2 when I got a new job with a lot of international traveling. I still need my laptop for real work and my desk top for photos and gaming but 80% of my computer time is on my iPad. Since I rarely game any more(but still spend hours here) at home the iPad is my go to device. The web, email, reading(white letters/black screen), and Facebook are the main uses and I barely have any apps. I think it was a great buy for $320.

I actually just sold my Nexus 7 today. It was a nice device, but once I bought my first smartphone (a Nexus 4), I stopped using it altogether. It just felt extraneous, and each time I picked up the 7 it was out of an obligation to use the device since I had paid for it, rather than a desire to actually use it.

I will buy them if I like what they have to offer or if I need one

but I still enjoy home console and desktop PCs

so I dunno

I'm actually waiting on my Nexus 7 right now. Bought the girl an iPad Mini and she was excited. I use a 17 inch monster Asus so having a small portable tablet to watch movies, browse, and listen to music is a very welcome addition to my electronic family.

Some people sit at home all day and other people find themselves on the go constantly. It's like having a Vita or 3DS IMO it's just what you like doing on the go

No. Less portable than a phone and not as powerful as a real computer. If it's not something that I feel I need to do on my desktop, I can do it on my phone.

2 iPads, an iPhone, iPod Touch, Galaxy S3 and a Nexus 7 in my house. Laptop is for work. Kick ass gaming PC is for Steam. The Tabs are for surfing, reading books and studying. I listen to music or podcasts on my S3 almost continually.

I would love a Surface with like an 18 inch screen. That would be cool. But expensive as hell.

I'm sold on tablets as a toy/internet browsing machine, but they're just too expensive for what they are and, until they can rival a laptop in power and capabilities, I can't justify the cost.

As for smart phones, I'm now souring on the experience. I'd be perfectly happy with an affordable phone that has a simple UI and browses the internet well.

I have an first gen iPad and its nearly useless now its so slow but when it was new I'd use it for a few minutes to browse the internet and then wonder why I was using that when its so much faster & easier to just use my pc. Granted, I feel this way about my laptop also. The only thing that makes me want to buy a new one technolust, but I have no real use for one.

no, i dont think i need one at the moment. my phone does well enough for me when im away from my computer, and my computer is pretty much accessible most of the time im awake.

the only time i can see using it is if i were in the living room watching tv, but i dont want to do that, nor do i like to.

Erm...ereaders are the superior reading experience.

Last time I used an ereader the refresh of the screen every time you go to a new page was too frustrating for me.

Also I meant all types of reading. For comics, magazines, mangas and image heavy PDF files an ereader is far inferior.

Not me. I carry my powerhouse laptop around in my bagpack, its small, a little heavy but I can manage - but faster and more powerful than most if not all tablets out there (don't know if a tablet out there has gtx 670m in it).

Can do everything in my laptop (gaming outside, work/study application, and its mobile), don't see a need for tablets.

After getting used to the Retina display on my ipad 4 I find it really hard to go back to my laptop for web browsing. The clarity and crispness of the text makes my laptop screen look like unreadable shit.

It's my device of choice for web browsing and watching Netflix or tv shows in bed.

Tablets are alright if you can get something as good as an iPad to be as cheap, light and efficient on battery as a kindle, or heck, just get closer to the regular kindle battery life, it would be better, but for now, no. I would like to get a kindle for reading, but cant justify spending the $100 on one. But then if you step it up to an iPad, you are paying at least $300-something, even for the mini with worse battery life and you have to be more careful with it. But with an iPad, you can do a ton more stuff on. But then you get that far down the rabbit hole, and I already have an macbook and iPhone so that kind of covers most of my needs other than reading with a kindle.

Plus I hate the digital keyboards, limited use when web browsing, ect of a kindle fire or iPad... I dunno, I think I will just stick with my iPhone and macbook for the time being, maybe for christmas I will drop some hints on a cheaper kindle for reading.
