Have you ever actually fallen asleep while playing a game?

I was playing FF7 on my PSP the other day in bed and I just passed out and woke up with the psp in my hands but the battery died.

Add me to the "MGS4 cutscene" sleep club. They should use that for insomnia therapy.

Also fell asleep a couple times scanning planets for minerals in ME2 when it first came out. So mind numbing with soothing music...

Actually falling asleep? Nah. I do tend to nod off a lot of times, especially if the game is cutscene/story heavy or a racing game. But if I'm nodding off, I just turn the game off and go to sleep.

I used to absolutely love racing games, but nowadays almost all of them are just tedious and boring. I'm still trying to figure out if my tastes changed or if it's the games.

Are we talking about falling asleep against ones will while we are actually playing?

if so never. I dont think its even possible for me unless ive been awake for 24h or something. If im tired ill just turn the console of and sleep. Gaming is way to active for me to just nod off while playing.

with passive entertainment like movies, tv etc it happens all the time.

I've never fallen asleep doing anything other then trying to sleep. I simply can't. Even super exhausted, been up for multiple days straight. I get exhausted and have all the symptoms of exhaustion but I can't fall asleep unless I try.

Yeah happened few times. Played exhausted in Tales of Eternia after school back in 2001 and fallen asleep in town of Morle xD

Also Final Fantasy XII, tired after work and passed out for about an hour. Was farming exp in Ridorana Cataract as far as I remember.

I've almost dozed off a few times while watching MGS4 cutscenes, but during gameplay, in 25 years of playing games, its never happened to me until tonight.

I just woke up after falling asleep while in the middle of a battle in Lord of the Rings: War of the North. Enemy after enemy kept coming and coming and I just kept pelting them with this slingshot thing and button mashing with my warrior guy. I think I was out about half an hour and I didn't actually die while asleep in battle. It think its an excellent sign that this game is a boring pile of crap thats getting sent back to Gamefly immediately.

Anyone else?

I take it you've never played Gears 'n Beers.

I play Dark Souls too much, so I've fallen asleep playing that a few times now. The worst was when I fell asleep at like 4am while I was actively playing and running back to my bloodstain with like 2 million souls in it. Not really sure what happened but those souls are gone.

Ouch...

I stock up on Rings of Sacrifice for any situations where I need to get back to a blood stain.

Red Dead Redemption is the only game. Got it at the midnight release, went home to play it until 4am, knocked out and woke up in a gunfight around 5am.

I once fell asleep playing FFIX while fighting a boss and when I woke up the boss was dead. No bullshit.

It was one of these guys

I've fallen asleep playing Guitar Hero 3, after staying awake for 30+ hours.

I also remember falling asleep a lot playing FFXI, on my laptop laying on my bed. During pretty much all the endgame events. It also didn't help that most of the time I dozed off pressing W(forward), only to suddenly wake up stressed as hell afraid I had dozed off for too long and had aggroed something I shouldn't have.

FFVIII trying to get Tonberry King to spawn.

My boyfriend was playing then said, "Okay I'm going to have a shower, just stay here and fight 10 more tonberries so the king will spawn, I'll shower as fast as I can"

I nodded eagerly and set about killing tonberries.
5 tonberries into my mission I started to fall asleep.

The next thing I know is the controller being snatched away and my boyfriend going "Shit!"

I look at the screen and 2 of my characters had been knifed and tonberry was coming in for a final knifing.

Good thing was we didn't die and still got Tonberry King to spawn :D

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. I love Pokemon games, but this game's battles took a million times longer than they should have. I'd nearly always fall asleep when trying to grind up my Pokemon late at night (sometimes in the afternoon too).

I used to fall asleep all the time..... I remember waking up to my friend who was choosing my plays for me in Madden, just so he could win....caught red handed. >:(

Recently fell asleep playing the mass effect demo......was worried because I have a plasma now, and thought I might get a burn in.

Me falling asleep really just has to do with staying up too late and trying to do too much.

Edit- oh sheeet worse situation was when I was browsing porn on the big screen with the PS3 back around launch, just cause it was cool....I don't know who could've walked in the living room that whole time, but no one in the fam ever said anything...so I'll just presume no one saw anything. >_<

Final Fantasy XIII.

Got to the Gapra Whitewood, got through the Gapra Whitewood, proceeded to fall asleep against the Aster Protoflorian something like seven times. It's just such a dull fight!

...admittedly, I think I fell asleep during the chapter where they all came back to Cocoon as well.

This was not one of my better games for staying awake.

GT5 and Forza 4's menu music have put me to sleep on the couch a few times. The first time I played Dark Souls I fell asleep at the character creation screen...at 10am in the morning :\

Hopping over to the couch for a quick nap while waiting for a wipe/people to rez and buff was all too common in vanilla WoW/TBC (back before druids had an actual rez). Lie down, turn speakers up, listen for combat noises over Vent.

I fell asleep during one of the long codec calls towards the end of MGS2 back in the day. When I woke up I didn't know what was going on or why I was holding a controller until I saw Snake idling on screen.

Fell asleep playing Dragon Quest 8 twice.

Not because the game was boring, the exact opposite actually, I just couldn't put that game down for very long stretches of time. The body was willing but the mind had had enough.

Back in vanilla wow I would try to get chest from Gurubashi every 3 hours, it was beyond fun to be on level 40 rogue to watch 60's fight then blind and or sap the last guy and steal the chest while he couldn't fight back. Anyways, I fell asleep a few times in stealth while waiting for the 3am chests to spawn.

FFXI. After begging for 2-3 hours I finally made a full JP party and on our way to Bibiki bay camp I fell asleep and woke up after 2hr-3hrs alone with my chocobo trolling at the sea shore. Was pretty embarrassed tbh

I've sometimes passed out when playing a game. When I was younger, we tended to play games at afterparties. I don't have any recollection of it, but my friend once told me that I had vomited on the floor while we played, and then just continued playing like nothing had happened.

Shadow of the Colossus, getting very lost at like 4am looking for a colossus for almost an hour.

Fell asleep very gradually, had a FUCKED UP dream, woke up to Argo and Wander standing calmly in a field, grabbed the controller and reached the colossus in under 2 minutes. Weird memory.

Sure, many times. A few I remember are late night Baal runs in Diablo 2, scanning planets in Mass Effect 2 and power leveling to server first level 60 warlock during the release of World of Warcraft.

Never fell asleep while playing, but I have to stay away from any racing game when it starts to be late... Engine sounds - dunno why - are proper narcotic.

Fell asleep all the time while play Phantasy Star Online on DC I'd wake up to either being disconnected because my connection sucked at the time or just running in a corner. MGS4 put me to sleep all the time, those damn codec calls.

When I was younger I would bring a smaller television into my kitchen and hook up my SNES or Genesis and play RPGs all night long over weekends. I would fall asleep at the table almost on a regular basis. Can't recall doing it since then, but then a again you dont remember falling asleep anyway.

I fall asleep during games all the time. It even got to the point that back when I played Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst/Universe and Pangya, I gave people I played with frequently my cell phone number so they could call me to wake me up if I dozed off.

Ever fall asleep and then reset the game because you didn't want it to screw up your playtime stat? I had this weird fetish with RPG's where I wanted the real playtime, so I knew how long it actually took to beat it.

Sometimes it would be impossible because you would have to re-do so much of the game to get back where you fell asleep. But on SRPG's, I would do it quite easily.

Done it many times, i think the one that stands out the most was the final boss of FF8. I'd been playing for like 7hrs straight (ah, those were the days) and it was like 3am and just fell asleep.
Woke up hours later and the game was still running.

All the time really. I play my games while in bed so even with the sound turned up and in the middle of action, I might fall asleep. I remember playing Silent Hill and waking up to find myself bumping into walls all the time heh.

The only time I remember actually falling asleep because of the game itself was Star Ocean 3. I really loved everything about that game.. except the VA. Sooo monotonous!

I've fallen asleep quite a few times grinding in Persona 4 or playing skirmishes in Valkyria Chronicles. Granted, I'm usually doing these things despicably late at night.
