Have you ever played a PERFECT game?

Nah but came pretty damn close several times I'd say.

I hesitate to call anything perfect, but Super Smash Bros. Melee always struck me as an example of a game that's pretty much as good as it gets. I can't really think of anything that I'd change.

This and Tetris are games I'd consider nearest to perfect for me.

I think the closest we came to a perfect game in my opinion is Super Mario World.
Gameplay still holds up, plus it still looks stunning imo.

Perfect? i would say there is no such thing, but some games come close.
Metroid Prime: yes MP, level design is incredible, framerate is smooth, soundtrack amazing, graphics great for the Gamecube, lore is interesting, i think if you are a fan of Metroid, this would be the "perfect" game, along with Super.

Resident Evil 4: there may be some flaws, even with the pacing at the end, but its a game filled with incredible encounters, amazing creepy atmosphere, well designed bosses, charming characters, and just the pinnacle of its genre to me, even if newer games surpass it in terms of mechanics and graphics, RE4 remains the indisputable king in terms of design.

Devil May Cry: when i played it, this was just what i needed, it helped me feel better.

Mario Galaxy 1/2: incredibly polished game with fresh presentation and great music, everybody was wowed with this and for good reason.

There's one annoying puzzle to open a box late into the Resident Evil 1 remake, but other than that, it's as good as it gets.

Contra for NES is the perfect game.

Story you can get behind. 2 badass main characters. Great graphics. Great music. Tight controls. Varied environments. Great bosses. Varied weapons. Difficult for first-timers. Fun co-op. Perfect length. Quick load times. Did I mention great music?

This and Contra 3 (and 4) would have been so much better without the non-sidescrolling stages inbetween. The Probotector also might be the superior version.

Yes. There's plenty of those. The most recent in my memory is Pav Man CE and Deluxe. I dare anybody to try and tell me a single thing wrong with those games.

Surprised no one has mentioned Journey yet. While I don't think any game is 'perfect' I felt the experience as a single one off 2-3 hour play through was close to a perfect gaming experience.

If I ever played Ocarina of Time? Yeah, I have.

In all seriousness, I don't think there is an objectively perfect game out there. OOT is my all-time favourite, but I'm not blind to its (albeit very few ) flaws. Super Mario 64 is a nice example too, it has aged ridicilously well, but the framerate can be a headache now. If only we'd get a 1080/60 remake, sigh...

If I have to pick an objectively "perfect" game, I don't know why, but I'd go with Super Metroid. It's not my all-time favourite, but still up there, and I honestly don't think it did something wrong. Pacing was great, length was great, gameplay was great, soundtrack was great, boss fights were great. Whereas my biggest gripe with Prime was its, in comparison, very slow pacing. Also the artefact collecting was a pain in the ass.

Perfect?...Unpossible..but coming as close to it as I've played..

Super Metroid (Prime is really close)
Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting (3rd Strike is really close)
Tetris
F-Zero GX
Def Jam: Fight For NY
Bayonetta 2

Super Metroid & Prime
Super Mario 1,3, world, Galaxy 2
Zelda Link to the past & Link's Awakening
Street Fighter 2, Tetris and some other old classics, all near to perfection.

grand theft auto san andreas, i was 11 at the time and was very excited that i could finally play with someone i could relate to

P.S not saying i hated the other GTA's just san andreas spoke to me

I think there are plenty of perfect games. At the end of the day, if a game achieves what it was supposed to and more, then its perfect.

OP's game is one of them. Mario Galaxy games are too.

Surprised no one has mentioned Journey yet. While I don't think any game is 'perfect' I felt the experience as a single one off 2-3 hour play through was close to a perfect gaming experience.

I recently played Journey and while it's an incredibly beautiful and visually stunning game, I thought the rest was crap in comparison. There are a few of these (coincidentally higher paced) scenes that are truly magnificent, like the
surfing and flying scenes
, but I can't help but feel just a little let down after hearing a lot about it.

I suppose it has its length for it, or better the lack thereof, otherwise I'd probably never replay it.

Ori and the Blind Forest, or at least it's very close.

This game knew exactly what it wanted to be the whole way through development, and executes that perfectly while excelling in visuals, emotion, gameplay and challenging difficulty.

It's a game by all means and ends, and that in the best way possible.

Obviously there's no such thing as a perfect anything. There's no need to say there's no such thing as a perfect game.
My perfect game is The World Ends with You.

The OT sure sounds like he means it literally:

Literally- used for emphasis or to express strong feeling while not being literally true.
"I have received literally thousands of letters"

Starcraft: BW was a pretty perfect game, especially for its time. There's a reason why it stuck around for over a decade in professional circles.
The multiplayer speaks for itself, the campaign introduced some deep lore and had breathtaking (at the time) cutscenes, and it even included a rich environment for customizing your own maps and game types. Plus, it would run well on pretty much any PC.

Golden Sun 1 and 2
and
Link to the Past

Seriously can't think of a single thing I'd add or change to either of them. Perfection.

Geometry Wars 2

It's not my favorite game (I like it a lot though) but I would call it perfect because I don't see any glitches, flaws or anything else that would make me think that something could be better.

Mass Effect
Red Dead Redemption
BioShock
Dishonoured
Halo 3
Grand Theft Auto 5

Are all pretty much damn near perfect!

Try the original Deus Ex and SS2 and you'll see how much both Bioshock and Dishonoured lack in terms of "perfection" (especially Deus Ex in how it responds to different situations you create). They're not even in the same league. They do have better graphics though.

Plenty of them. They were all perfect in what they set out to do.

FEZ- create one of the craziest puzzle games gaming has ever seen. Succeeded.

Ocarina of Time - Take Zelda into 3D and put one hell of a story behind it. Mind blown as a 7 year old.
Super Smash Bros Wii U - Bring together all of the top Nintendo franchises once again and have a balanced fighting game in HD. Yup, it did just that.
The Last of Us - Gave a thematic reason behind the gameplay mechanics, on top of one of the most enjoyable narratives I've ever experienced in a game.

There's probably a bunch more that fit the bill, but I don't feel like looking them up.

Literally- used for emphasis or to express strong feeling while not being literally true.
"I have received literally thousands of letters"

Again, going back to the OT:

In fact, Metroid Prime is the only perfect thing I have ever seen in my whole life. It got me questioning that popular saying "nothing is perfect".

I haven't played anything that ever made me question that idea, no matter how much fun it was.
