Have you ever played a PERFECT game?

Agreed. Most people naming Tetris probably don't even know there is different rotation systems. And I think the basic rotation is shit. TGM/sega rotation is definitely the best. SRS is fine but flawed.

The issue with the TGM series is that many haven't played them. TGM2 is quite possibly the best arcade puzzle game ever made, and clearly the best Tetris, but so few people have played them that they can't form an opinion on it.

DMC3, MGS2 and RE4 are probably the closest I've seen.

Half Life 2 is up there too, but I find certain parts of it let the whole thing down.

Prime 1 qualifies for me.

I'd like to say Xenoblade as well but wait there's spike damage. Such a shame.

Starcraft:Brood War.

Now there's a perfectly balanced in every way kind of strategy game.

Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike. Sean and Twelve are pretty much worthless. There's never been an arcade-perfect port. And the online is even farther from arcade-perfect.
In general the game is full of balance issues. Twelve and Sean aren't completely worthless but Sean's nerfs make him feel pointless. Chun Houyokusen and Ken in general are more egregarious imo

I love Metroid Prime, but for me it has flaws. Letting you get quite far down a certain path before reaching an area that you can't access because you don't have the right equipment is a flaw to me.

Did you ever mistakenly end up in the flooded Reactor Core before you got the double jump? Absolute pisstake. Some people might not see that as a flaw but I do.

This is perfection.

I actually have quite a few.

Zelda OoT
Castlevania SotN
MGS3 (and my favorite is actually 4)
FFVI
Demon's Souls
Pool of Radiance
TES Oblivion as a sneak-attacking, blade and bow wielding Thief / Assassin
Ultimate Marvel Alliance 1
Twisted Metal 2 & Black
God of War 2
Mass Effect 1
Gears 1
Uncharted 1
Ms Pacman

Early eras of EQ and FFXI would be in this too, but they're too dependant on the personalities of the other party members.

I don't get too picky. But any of these are gaming nirvana to me. Again there could be more like Warhawk PS3 for me, but other players can wildly effect your enjoyment.

Fallout 1 for me.

The story, the combat, the humour, the setting, the leveling system.
The excitement of getting a level and finding out what the new perks are. The share terror of roaming the desert knowing you might face Enclave or Deathclaws ...

Also SC BW.

MGS 2. It's up there with Mario in terms of perfect gameplay. I can't find a single bad thing to say about it. Everything is perfect.

Tomba!
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal
Spyro The Dragon
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time
Gunstar Heroes
Star Ocean: The 2nd Story
Pong
Galaga
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Final Fantasy IX

My favorite game of all time is Xenogears, which is far from perfect though.

Nothing's perfect. But games I can go back and play without no qualms:

Mario kart / almost any Mario game in fact.
Counter Strike
Tetris
Dota1/2
Diablo2
StarCraft: BW
Wc3
Bejeweled :)
Minecraft... And so many more!

super monkey ball one came so close. monkey target was exceptional and the level builds were expertly done. series took such a dive in quality

I mean literally perfect (having no mistakes or flaws).

I have played one perfect game in my 15 years of gaming, and that game is Metroid Prime, everything about it is perfect.

In fact, Metroid Prime is the only perfect thing I have ever seen in my whole life. It got me questioning that popular saying "nothing is perfect".

So now I'm here creating this thread: have you ever played a perfect game?

And once again, I mean LITERALLY perfect.

Regardless of how good you think it is, even a little thing like the doors taking too long to load and let you through sometimes objectively stops it from being perfect. Unless you prefer that for some reason.

There is no "literally" perfect game.

This topic is basically "what are the games you liked the most"

At the time I played OoT it felt like a perfect game that rose above everything else in almost every aspect. And yet even at the time I didn't consider it my favorite - if you'd asked me I would have said Gunstar Heroes, TIE Fighter, or maybe Tyrian.

Nintendo's good at making games that have no huge glaring flaws, but that doesn't automatically mean you're required to like it. For example Mario 64's camera is obnoxious at times which I'd consider a flaw, but I still liked it better than 3D World which I can't say anything bad about.

Vagrant Story.

As much as I love Dark Souls I wouldn't call it a flawless game, but it still ties VS as my favorite game of all time. (EDIT: It's too ambitious to expect absolute perfection)

No but Dark Souls 2 was the closest so far. Loved almost everything about it. Only very slight downside was that there could have been more variety in the types of bosses.

Asherons call, darktide server from 1999-2003 was the definition of perfect. Fucking pinnacle of video game design and gameplay that we will never see again. Everything about the game was spot on. Every system/game mechanic was put to use and players were finding new ways to experience the game for years. Anyone who played in darktide during that time knows what I am talking about.

Dota 2 is extremely close to being a perfect game. The only shitty thing I the messy armory for items. It'll get patched out.
