Have you ever played a PERFECT game?

Mega Man 2 ... is pretty close. I think Shovel Knight is also there, but apparently some people don't like it.

Bloodborne.

The perfect game wouldn't have frame pacing issues. It's damn close but the lack of a stable framerate resulting in really unresponsive controls knocks at least a point off for me.

I agree. Metroid Prime is perfect. From art, story, bosses, puzzles, pacing, music. It's all an accomplishment of mastery.

My top 6 games are what I consider perfect games.

1. Earthbound
2. Chrono Cross
3. Chrono Trigger
4. Phantasy Star Online
5. Final Fantasy Tactics
6. Ragnarok Online

While they sure as heck aren't perfect for everyone, they're perfect to me.

Honestly, I can't say for sure considering that the idea of perfection is such a vague definition. Hell, isn't it better to say that we will never play the perfect game since we will always strive for perfection, and thus see improvements to bring us ever closer?

I would like to post the "Mayuri Speech on Perfection" here, but I feel that might be slightly off topic. Honestly though if I had to say what game does close to perfection, I do have to point at Breath of the Wild for what the game has done and went up and beyond to make this crazy game. Of course, is it perfect? Not by a long shot, but it is definitely worth the 10s that most reviewers have given it.

The closest games to perfect that I've ever played are Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and Metal Gear Solid 3. There are games that I think are better than some of those on a personal level, but I can't think of a single complaint against any of the 4. My favorite games of all time(FF6 and OoT) had some jank and uneven performance.

I think Dragon Warrior/Quest Monsters 2 is the closest to perfection I've seen. The 3DS remake is absolutely fantastic but the key system isn't quite as exciting as in the original GBC/PSX versions, although it is more efficient.

Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast.

It is the perfect combination of ease of use and skill. The gameplay was perfect and had just enough single player content to engage you when no friends were over to play.

Have I ever played a PERFECT game?

Of course I have. I've played the most perfect piece of media ever made by human hands.

Hoshigami Blue Earth.

One of the greatest epics ever told. An experience transcending life and death, time and space, earth/wind/fire.

Portal and Braid are the closest things that come to mind. They have a vision, they execute it, and without any real baggage, bloat, or rough edges.

The perfect 3D and 2D puzzle games, respectively.

there's no such thing as a perfect game...my top 3 favourite games of all time all had some apparent flaws....still love them to death though..

1) Castlevania Symphony of the night - Questionable items placement, unbalanced OP main protagonist

2) Bloodborne - Chalice dungeons structure needs a revamp (get rid of materials), online summoning needs a revamp (bells doesn't work well compared to DS's soapstone signs)

3) Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence - Rubbish controls

that being said, i do feel that certain games were flawless in its execution for what it is..

for example, Journey, i think is a flawless product. I am not saying it is a perfect game, no it isn't. But the idea and concept of journey is flawlessly executed, from the length to the controls to the visuals...that i can find no fault in it.

I definitely didn't have a single issue with Ragnarok Online back in the day (from Korean Open Beta to playing on private servers years later). Amazing music, tons of content, enemies and stuff to do, massive world, guilds, great art and a massive player base.

It's not my favorite game, but Portal is the most flawless game I can think of. All my top faves have some issues that stop me short of calling them perfect, but obviously I love them despite the flaws.

The closest game to me that I would say it was perfect was the original Phantasy Star on the Sega Master system. It was such a fantastic game and at the time it came out was cutting edge in presentation, story telling and visuals. Fond memories of making maps using graph paper and the only game I played for a straight 24 hours (outside of bathroom/food breaks and to run to the store for graph paper).

No.

I mean it depends how you view "perfect".

Maybe something seems perfect at the time but on reflection you realise there are lots of things that could be done differently or better.

Bible Black and Steins;Gate.

Visual novels are kinda cheating because if there is no gameplay to screw up, then you just need a damn good story and characters.

NiGHTS Into Dreams. Perfect time/score game to binge. An arcade experience at home. Accompanied by a gorgeous art style and the greatest gaming soundtrack of all time.

Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast.

It is the perfect combination of ease of use and skill. The gameplay was perfect and had just enough single player content to engage you when no friends were over to play.

good choice, i also go with soul calibur for dc. closest to perfect, still love to play it today. wheres the remastered online edition namco?

and i add resident evil remake.

Anyone saying yes is lying.

Its so purely matter of taste that its laughable..
Wanna hear my 2 perfect games?
Kh2, legacy of kain series and DMC series. Are they perfect.. no!
Are they perfect for me? YES

This thread is the explanation of all the problems of the industry.
People overhype and over rate games saying they are perfect. So they are ready to accept the most anti consumer and senseless features from devs/publishers and don t understand why their favorite game isnt a 10/10.

People saying SotC are the best example. We re talking about a game originally running at 15-20fps...

I don't think I did but there are a lot of games i never played. For example fighting games or racing simulations can be perfect I bet.

But I'm more of a man liking games for their qualities AND flaws. Some of the most memorable games I played were full of glitches or crappy gameplay, like Alpha Protocol or Pursuit Force Extreme Justice.

The two games that come in mind would be Half Life or Inside, but even those have low points.
