Have you ever worn a tuxedo?

I love tuxedos. I own two of them. I wore one to prom, I've worn the badass white one my dad got married in when I dressed up as Smooth Criminal Michael Jackson, I own a 3-piece denim tuxedo that I've made a denim bow tie, top hat, rings, and spats to go with it, and I have a formal black tux that I've worn to weddings.

To the person asking what the difference between a tux and a black suit are, just look at them side by side. They aren't really subtle differences (at least to me). The fabric, the cut, the tails, the shoulders, the button placement, the collar, how far down the chest piece is open before the button (so that you can see the bow tie and special frilly tuxedo shirt and possible cummerbund) the pants, how the pants are cuffed, etc etc.

Yes, to a very flash wedding. Felt pretty good not having to think about which suit / shirt to wear, rented it, fit well and overall it was nice to feel like Bond for the day.

What's the difference between a tuxedo and a nice black suit? They look the same to me overall.
Tuxedos are generally more flash, have a sharper cut, higher quality. The lapel is often a slightly different material on a tux jacket. The pants sometimes have a stripe down the side of a different material too. And you typically wear it with a pleated shirt, with one of those stupid collars designed for bow ties. And if it you wanna look even more like a prat, there are also matching waistcoats and cummerbunds for tuxedos. Suits are more casual, but you can get away with a normal black suit and normal white shirt and bow tie for most formal occasions.

Many times at college - it was that sort of college.

There exists a photo of me in DJ/tux with two others who eventually turned out to be an international fraudster and a murderer, but I am keeping that to myself. You never know how people are going to turn out.

Nope. But I'm going to use this thread to remark how awesome it was this weekend to be wandering around another city and coming across a shop in it's last day of closing down and picking up a swag $500 suit for $100. I didn't even need it, but it was too good to pass up.

I think I might throw up. Are you going out with Lil' Kim in the 90s or something?

The denim tux is a joke outfit. I found it in a thrift store for $20 and it fit me perfectly, there was no way in hell I wasn't going to buy it. It's clearly from the 70s, the cut of the pants, where the belt line is, and the flared-out bell-bottom-esque cuffs give it away. I made the rest of the suit for halloween so I could be Lee Vye, the Dapper Denim Guy. It's a fucking sick suit given how completely oddball goofy it is and I got a shitload of compliments on it. (Especially given the parts I made myself and how fucking hard it is to sew denim by hand)

The white tux, you're a fool if you think a white tux isn't bad ass. I'm not even the only one in this thread who's worn one. My dad rocked it at his wedding, and I rocked it too for the MJ tribute night I borrowed it for. Tuxedoes come in more than one color. Black, grey, white, powder blue, red, etc.

It's not like I wear tuxedos all the time just out and about. They're special suits for special occasions. If I wanted to just wear one all the time I'd get a standard black tux (which I have) but for parties and special events, then you go all out and you wear something absurd and bitchin'.

Nope. I'm too poor to afford one and I never get invited to fancy formal events that would demand one as standard attire.

Yes. Besides weddings and shit, i'm also a professional musician in an orchestra/band, and required dress half the time for men is a tuxedo (and it was also the same from my high-school years, to undergrad, to even now).

Shit makes you feel awesome. I own two differently styled tuxedos.

Only at my wedding. I fear I won't find any more use to it. I still hope to attend to another wedding where the groom wears one, so I may use mine again.

I've been a groomsmen at multiple weddings, and am married myself, so I've had to wear a bunch of tuxes. The thing that gets me is that they are almost as expensive to rent as they are to buy, but the problem is that there will be a different kind of tux for each wedding, so just buying one doesn't do you much good.

Simply owning a tuxedo is reason enough to wear it.

One of my friends used to throw parties at his house quite often and he'd bartend, always wearing a black tux. Looked slick and let people know who was in charge.

To junior and senior prom. I also used to play violin in a youth orchestra. We had to wear a tux for the concerts. Playing a violin while wearing a bow tie kind of sucks.

Its all about the White tie

Got one as well but I refuse to wear it if the occasion is not super festive (did wear it at my siblings' weddings and at my cousin's where I was best man). If people think a suit or a tux are complicated they should try putting on one of those.

I love my tuxedos. Most comfortable, flattering piece of clothing a man can wear. Hence my avatar too! I mean how awesome does that look?!

Aah thanks. Then no, never worn one :lol

Yes, several times per year. Black tie social events and weddings

Not as often as that and only once to a wedding but yeah, apart from that, I'm in the same boat. I have my own too. Feels like such a waste just left there unworn.

Don't enjoy it much at all although my wife tells me I look very dapper in one. In other words she hates me slouching around!

i've been a groomsman for a couple of weddings and i rented a tux both times. Unfortunately i'm a small guy and the tuxes never fit quite right- shoulder pads are ALWAYS too big, making me look ridiculous.

Just at my cousins wedding. I was a groomsman but we didn't have bow ties.

I think I looked damned good. We had rum raisin colored ties. RUM RAISIN!

Agreed on the white tux part.

That said, I much prefer my blazer for dressy social attire. That with either khakis or some festive slacks (got a pair that's pink and another one that's yellow), boots, and a nice Southern belt make for a grand ol' time. And then you can slap a bowtie on it and just go all out too.

I'm surprised how many people are saying prom... I wasn't even aware my school had a prom. It never even occurred to me
