I believe he said his current persona is more "real" after he found his confidence or something. Not 100% on that though.
He's a Gaffer, so maybe he could come in and answer that.

I think Irate Gamer parodies are done because he's pretty much irrelevant now and the people who legitimately hated him have grown up and realized how foolish everything was.
I dont really follow him but as far as he goes I think he's actually doing what he wants to do now. Back in the day I think people were bitter YouTube pushed him instead of AVGN and time has really made that into a non issue. I don't know, that's my take on it at least.

I'm going to put a spin on the thread a bit and actually mention a real TV channel here in the UK called Ginx TV. It's the most cringeworthy shit I have ever seen, and that includes some of the replies in this thread. They have a programme called the First Hour, which is exactly what you think it is, with the 2 most obnoxious, unfunny presenters on the planet.

He basically calls himself the biggest gamerscore in Brazil (that's even in the channel's name) even though he's banned from True Achievements for being considered a cheater and has never explained the situation there or proved otherwise.
Just by that you can imagine how the videos are, he's a joke here to anyone that understands a little bit about gaming, but the uninformed masses follow him blindly like he's some kind of small celebrity.

Madcatz just sent DSP a free copy of Rockband 4. But DSP will only play Rockband 4 if his Patreon Goal for October is reached. He won't actually play the game until November or December where he'll have a day marathon of it.

most of them, even game explain can be a little cringey sometimes, but LPers in general are super cringey when they try to be "funny", unless it's multiple people and it happens organically, that's what i liked of jon tron/arin era game grumps, their banter was funny because it was just 2 bros talking, not forced jokes and gimmicks, just natural dialogue, in contrast Jon-Tron's actual solo show is the anti thesis of funny.
He put a patreon goal just to play that game? WTF???
