HBO Go, Comcast launches on Xbox 360 tomorrow

Ok, so any word on when the Xfinity app is going up?

Try searching for it. I found it when I searched for "Xfinity".

And screw the HBO Go app for not having Comcast. Xfinity app does not have the movie my BF wants to watch but HBO Go does.

i'd give it a little, it should come to parity rather quickly

So wait a fucking minute, I can't use the HBO GO app on '360 with my Comcast/Xfinity login credentials?!

BUT I can access it on my iOS devices?!

What the fuck is this horse shit?!

I also like how you can't use AirPlay to transmit an iPad's HBO Go signal to your television even though almost everything else works fine.

Providers are assholes. Kicking and screaming their way into the 21st century.

Would like to try this, but not willing to pay for Live. Ill just continue to hook my PC up to my TV and pray for a PS3 app.

Awesome news. I love HBO Go. Now Showtime just needs to step it up and offer this service to people other than ATT U-Verse and Verizon subscribers.

I wonder what Time Warner's problem with HBOgo is. I know comcast's is that they want to pimp their own apps, does Time Warner have something similar coming out?

No, but they continually drag feet on any apps that take you away from the Time Warner equiptment. as they see it...they pay HBO and ESPN a handsome fee for their product, and thus, they and they alone should control it.

HBOgo doesn't work on Roku and i assume it won't on Xbox just like ESPN.

in summation: screw Time Warner (I know...I just dropped them)

I'm not sure how this works.

I have HBO through Charter Cable. How do I get the HBO Go to know I have an HBO subscription? Do I enter a phone number or something?

It works the same as the Netflix app. You pick a provider, log on your pc, input the code and it authenticates your 360. I assume it's a one time deal like Netflix but that it will only allow a certain amount of streams playing at a time.

With Comcast/Xfinity, you enter your email account information in. Not sure how Charter works if it's just cable.

Does HBO Go even support Charter in the 360 app? You should figure that out first.

It's on the list.

Is it possible that let's say, my sister in Texas has HBO and her provider is on the approved list, can I use her info for me to use on my 360 in California?

Yes it works that way. I used my Dad's dish network login on the web portal and it worked perfect. Hell portable devices like the iPad ask for the login info and I think like anyone in the country can just navigate to the web portal and login (my brother in Chicago was using it all last year to watch Game of Thrones).

Yeah, it's awful!

I think Comcast only allows access to HBOGO on iOS devices, Android phones and PC. Pretty much anything that can be hooked up to your TV to use HBOGO they don't allow.

Bought my brother a Roku for Christmas and found out the hard way about it.

Didn't think they restricted it per device since I always used it on my PC.

You need cable to use HBO Go.

No. You need a login and password to authenticate on the website. I have AT&T uverse internet with no cable and use Dish network login to authenticate. If the app was smart enough to detect whether you have cable and/or HBO subscription then there would be no need for authentication codes. I'm sure that will be the case in the digital future but for now I will pay my dad the $16 for HBO sub.

EDIT: Okay nevermind, I misunderstood you.

Wow, that fucking sucks. I was actually planning on buying an Apple TV now to stream from my iPad to my TV since this doesn't work for TWC. So obnoxious..

Even if I plan to piggy back off of someone elses HBO subscription?

in that case, no. My mom has Charter w/ HBO, I don't have any cable on my HTPC setup, just OTA via a tuner. I can log in using her credentials on both a browser in HTPC and on my roku no problem.

But you can only be logged in on one device at a time...so if you log in one place, it logs you out everywhere else. They aren't authenticating on your broadband provider like ESPN does...otherwise with Time Warner i would be blocked altogether.

Thats bullshit...I wanted the HBO app so I could re watch The Wire and The Sopranos..

Comcast being pieces of shits again? I think I'll drop them for DirectTV as this point. This is ridiculous.

They still don't have a login for MaxGO either.

OK, I have 360, Comcast, iPhone. What exactly does this deal do for me? VOD of all programming? Can I stream to my phone? What if I am subscribed to MLB ticket? What does this mean beyond ability to "switch" between games (which is all the article linked in OP mentions) ?

Sigh...comcast lets me down again. Was so pumped and then saw they dont support hbo go. Only hope i have now is this xfinity app gets better. Offerings right now looked worse than their website.

So, did they ever fix the black levels issue that everything other than the Zune marketplace had on the 360? I didn't pay attention. The only reason I ask is because HBO's black levels seem off, evident immediately in the 10 second animation that plays before every video. The beginning of Green Lantern didn't do any better.

Also: lol, softcore porn.

Fuck Comcast. Holy shit, I've been waiting on this stupid app on 360 for months now and I can't even use it. Why? I can use it on PC/Android phone. Bullshit. This is why people pirate stuff.

I'll be glad when cable companies die and everything is a la carte.

Downloaded the 360 xfinity app and logged in. Browsed through the HBO OD stuff and it seems that the majority of their content is available.

Looked at the GoT stuff and Xfinity stupidly lists it from the last episode to the first instead of first to last. They also don't list season/episode numbers (S1:E2) which is annoying as well.

Also, the content expiration dates are earlier on xfinity than HBO Go. The first episode of GoT expires on 7/31/12 for Xfinity. Meanwhile the same episodes expires 12/31/12 in the HBO Go app.

So the Xfinity app seems decent for now. But sure wish I could just directly access HBO Go directly on my 360 just like I already do on my iOS devices.

Worth a shot, anybody not going to use theirs and I can have it? Brighthouse are being assholes like always and have no plans for letting us use it on the Xbox so I'm stuck with moible/pc..

Comcast app works but could use some improvement. Overall it's still better then looking through the same content over "On Demand" which is stupid slow. I still wish I could check out the HBO app.

Holy shit, I can't believe Comcast is blocking HBO GO on the 360. I would've been fucking livid if I wasn't getting rid of my cable service soon anyway — I had been looking forward to this day for such a long time.

Is it tied to the login or when somebody starts the stream? I was going to piggy back on my brothers hbo account (and pay him a couple bucks for his trouble) but he also has an xbox that he was going to start using for this. Does it atleast say the hbo app is in use and make you click to log the other person off or does it just automatically kick them off? I'm curious how that would work. As long as we would be notified it would be fine.... I'm just worried about it if it automatically does it we might be stepping on each others toes when trying to use hbo.

wish i had a free month on live to try it out. haven't had my 360 hooked up for over a year now but am tempted to hook it back up to try this out. hope the ps3 gets the app soon

I pray for the day when HBO is completely independent of "old media" and will become a paid subscription service like Netflix.

It is going to be a long time before that happens unless there is some kind of miraculous FCC changes before Republican Lawmakers completely dismantle the "Job Killers at the FCC" and completely deregulate any rules that are left.

The incumbents are going to stand their ground for as long as they can, and providers like HBO, Showtime, MLB, the NFL, and any other content providers still holding their products behind regional paywalls and blackout rules as long as a guaranteed check from the Cable industry is bigger than the not-guaranteed direct subscriber money.

It is the de-regulated utopia Reagan promised us.

No idea, all i noticed was when i logged in on my HTPC, it dropped me out of my session on my laptop, and vice-versa. it is probably on the login...if you already have a session active, it drops it if you start another.
