Hearthstone Closed Beta - Open beta in NA, elsewhere next few days. New thread soon!

Blizzard may have the ressources, but the whole point of this project is to avoid Blizzard's rather bloated dev cycles and keep a project as cheap and simple as possible for once.
They have no interest in having elements in the game that would need fixing and maintenance later on.

I can see the maintenance being an issue since, you're right, HS is intended by Blizzard to be a small project - although I even have my doubts about that somewhat, just because I think the WoW TCG wasn't renewed by Blizzard due to HS. I think HS is intended to eventually be a really competitive game replacing Blizzard's former TCG. I just think Blizzard didn't want to put a lot of resources into it initially and, from launch and onward, they will build it up. I don't think trading will ever be available though - I'm just saying that I can see Blizzard putting a detailed tournament system within the game where e-sports can flourish.

And they really really hate bots.

I wish they hated them enough to try their best to prevent bots from grabbing HS beta keys. :/

Ugh, would do anything to get a beta key for my boyfriend, he's been so down in the dumps lately...sigh.

ANY idea when the Open Beta might be?

No clue. But if he's sad... maybe just be extra nice to him? >>

Sorry to hear about that. If I get a Beta key, I'll make sure to get it to him.

ANYWAY. I can't wait until I get to play this game. It looks so awesome. It flows really quickly and there seems to be a lot of skill involved. I just can't believe it's taking so long to make it more open to the public. I guess it is because I don't understand these things, but the game looks pretty much completed.

What's the best way to get a key at this point?

Buying it off ebay for $100+

I've tried my best to grab a beta key and nothing. A friend got in and I got to try it out. It really is amazing, but there are some criticisms I have about the game.

The idea of having a 30 card limit no matter what, no graveyard mechanic, randomly discarding at a 10 card hand cap, and the current meta.

Honestly a lot of things can be tweaked and fixed, and when more cards are added it will definitely make the game more fun.

About the open beta: So apparently the virtual Blizzcon ticket will include something for Hearthstone. So my guess would be that they might go open beta around Blizzcon. Would be weird to have an exclusive item that most people can't use right?

Holy crap I just saw a new scheme on EBay.Some people are now renting out their Hearthstone account for 10 to 15 Euro a day. Crazy!

Yeah I could see people doing this if it's completely just for Hearthstone, no WoW or D3 attachment.

You essentially just get over skype, you can send them your info, still have an authenticator and then tell them the code at that point in time to allow them to play. Honestly it seems like a lot of hassle, but I guess people really want to play.

I think one of the main things I discussed with friends who are magic players, if Hearthstone can overwhelmingly make online TCG a "real" thing. Because while MTG online exists, as far as I know, more people would rather play it physically than online.

Heh... was watching Ek0p streaming his arena matches during my dinner - kept the stream running in the background while doing some matches myself, suddenly at the beginning of one of my matches I hear him go "Fucking Mottschi (my btag), this guy is good"... checked the tag of my opponent and there he is!

Left stream immediately to give him a fair match, but that one comment made my day. :D

I bets there will be a key waiting for me tomorrow morning when I come back from Gamestop with my copy of GTA...I'm telling you lol.

I was thinking that a HS key would tide me over in lieu of GTA for a while, but it just occurred to me that I'd be going up against the same five people over and over because everyone else would be off playing GTA.

Friend of mine sold a key for $300.

He told me that a few weeks ago, you could easily get $500 or more for it. Some pro arena team even paid $2000 for it, according to some people.

That's just crazy.

Despite the amount of money being tempting I genuinely just want to start playing.

INSTAAAAAAAAALLING.

Finally. The bad news is I have to work tonight. 9 painful hours. I'll probably try to sleep them all away so I can play as fast as possible.

Me too. I wouldn't sell mine regardless but I just want to play a good digital card game.

Hopefully some opt-ins go out for NA as well.

So I've finally gotten to try out HS for myself. Unsurprisingly, I love it. Quickly got all the classes, though I actually lost twice to the paladin. Is it just me or is he harder than any of the other classes in practice mode? After unlocking all the classes, I immediately tried out the arena. Was planning on buying a bunch of cards and trying out some decks first, but had to put that on hold for a few days as I'm a little strapped for money at the moment. Arena is the mode I am most interested in anyway. Started off brilliantly with the druid, going up 3-0 after destroying my opponents. Then I lost a pretty close and awesome match against another druid. Both with massive board presence going in for the kill. That was followed by another loss. Then I managed to get two more wins before ending up with 5-3. Decent enough for my first arena run. The second one has been pretty abysmal so far. At 2-2 with the mage right now. Couldn't quite understand why I was struggling so much. Then I realized that I hadn't gotten a single polymorph or flamestrike. Polymorph especially is so important.

I would suggest playing all the classes until they are level 10. Get a good feel for them, then do arena. If you don't win 7+ in arena you don't get enough gold.

I do not mind spending real money on the arena as it is all returned in gold when the game launches. I feel I've seen enough streaming to get a pretty good idea of how the different classes play either way. Don't feel like spending time bogged down in constructed with inferior cards right now anyway. Just gonna dive right into the fray. Whatever will be, will be.

But man, though I am grateful for finally getting my hands on the game, I feel as if Blizzard are trolling me with the timing. I wish I had gotten in either earlier or later. I was just getting back into WOW these days. Now I gotta balance the two games along with CS:GO. Balance is not my strong suit.

I apologize for complaining to everyone who is still waiting for beta access.

My interest has kind of gone away for this game. I was caught in the hype for a bit but I've seen so much of it streamed i've kind of seen all the ins and outs. I'm actually excited about D3 again though.

honestly I'm starting to wonder if they do have any key at all... maybe is just some "clever" way to drive traffic to their website...

the fairest way to have done it, would be an email sign up; one email per IP address. Then just email the lucky people.

it would work in a perfect world where proxies do not exist or you cannot get a new IP just restarting your router.

Honestly the only fair way to do it would be asking for people ID #

even so; it's going to stop a bot getting a bucket load of keys.

There was a tweet 14min ago saying there was still keys available but there's no buttons on the page.

yeah, saw that tweet, but honestly I prefer stop trying.
If I'll ever get into the beta is because blizzard will send me an invite, I'm done wasting my time with those people

I got 'click for beta key' button, but when i clicked there was no key there, just disclaimer ...

I've even managed to get into database code with one link inside the source code, but no luck there either :P

it's working now; got a key.

I got this from reddit and it worked to get em a key:

get "edit this cookie" addon for chrome refresh their shitty giveaway page click on cookie icon and modify all that have "www.pcgamer.com" as domain, uncheck "HostOnly" and modify domain to ".pcgamer.com". That way betakeys server will also have access to your userid/userpassword etc. By default cookies are created for "www.pcgamer.com" so the betakeys.pcgamer.com didn't even have access to info whenever you're logged in or not LOL. Stupid amateurs. this got me a key use it or dont it worked for me
