Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice Hits 100k Copies Sold on Steam

I wonder what the break-even point for Ninja Theory is on this between Steam and PSN? Hoping they make an announcement soon because I am rooting for both this game and its business model to succeed.

Fucking awesome news. I really hope it continues to do well. One of the rawest games I've ever played, and I need more like that. And we need more games with this model.

Good news, glad to hear! Their goal sounds reachable at this point:
714x-1

Gotta stay loose when breaking the law.

Haven't played Hellblade yet, but will once they patch some of the bugs.

BREAKING THE LAW,-BREAKINGTHELAW!!!

BTW: Ninja Theory just dropped their first patch addressing a number of issues:

Like TrueDefault said 300+ K copies on both platforms. Too bad we don't have PS4 numbers.

And i agree with you, we need more games like this one from genre to business model.

Well deserved. Only got about an hour in cuz I'm busy this week but the binaural experience of it and the accompanying voices are a creepy delight.

300k I heard. I hope they'd make it back within the first 3 months.

Hope they reach it and leave it long behind them. I want this experiment in mid tier budget to pay off for them!

What exactly is the unique business model Ninja Theory are using here? Sorry for my ignorance.
I don't think it's all that unique, they just developed and published a game with their own funds (so an indie game). Production values are really wonderful though.

"AAA quality" (big graphics, many spectacle) from a smaller team and budget for half the price. No, not totally unique or even innovative but something that should be around more all the same.

The achievements of the business model feels like it's more important to gaming than the game itself.

Though the game itself is not half bad either.

Nice to hear. Game has really impressive visuals for a non AAA game that complete with AAA productions.

Seriously, AAA is nothing more than marketing speak for expensive production of a game but it seems to be mixed up with quality too often.

Did people finally stop buying those sugarcoated POS engine games from Telltale? Or is that pace how their games usually sell?

Hellblade is an AA game instead of a triple A game. AAA, think CoD or Uncharted, are 50+ million dollar huge expansive campaign online multiplayer fiascos. HellBlade is closer to those interesting mid-teir games like say Free Radical's Second Site which wasn't a triple A game, but still looked amazing on gamecube. In other words its not as scrappy as say a no budget indie because it comes from developers with skill sets on par with Triple A, but it's intended to fit between the million seller big guys and the lucky if you break a thousand sales indie games. Basically it's success suggests the market has stabilized enough again to support releases not intended for mass audiences and dealing with provocative subjects with out having to be the result of a game jam. Anyways so far so good.

This isn't meant to be critique, but people often forget about GOG when talking about PC sales. We have no GOG numbers, but I think we can add another 30k? (at least +1 from me)

Hopefully it's around 150k on PC
I would say and hope minimum 150/200 on PS4. Then get their money back and some + a bit after release. I can see this game easily reach 500-600k and hopefully the studio will do another game of this quality

Good point! Between those two and PS4 it's got to be over 300k by this point then, if not there imminently.

Hopefully this will crack at least the half a million mark before significant discounts hit, and I can see it being a consistent seller once getting in with the periodic indie focused sales due to its looks and reputation.

Really glad to see this title apparently doing so well, I've been rooting for it since it first got announced, and hope this leads to other studios following suit.

This game has an assured spot in my Goty list.
People who enjoy good narrative and atmosphere in gaming should not miss out.

I will be buying this game at full price at my earliest convenience. Ninja Theory deserve every penny from what I've seen, and even if it's a middling experience for myself, I think the game is just too important for what it's trying to accomplish.

We definitely cannot assume that GoG pushes 1/3 of the number of units that Steam does.

T*lltale game below 20k, are gamers finally waking up?

I just bought Walking Dead S3 :p
if every one of their games was as good as Tales of the Borderlands, and they finally start doing some serious re-work of their engine, people would stop complaining

anyway, Hellblade is on my list, I'm just waiting for a decent sale. I'm glad that they've found success, the first time I heard about this game was when it popped up on the Steam store page. It looks intriguing

Great game. Picked it up day one on PS4 and it immediately slotted itself in my top three games of the year. It's not for everyone, but for the people it is for, it's wonderful.

Yup. Still waiting for the "winning PR", really hope it did well. Where are you NT? you've been in silence since launch :(

So far I would agree. At the very least, Chipo Chung is on my short list for best voice performance of the year as the narrator.

Imagine some are like me and awaiting the inevitable 50-75% off sale every Telltale game has on Steam at some point.

Anyways great news for Hellblade. Another game I'm hoping to get a chance to play before the year is over.

We definitely cannot assume that GoG pushes 1/3 of the number of units that Steam does.

We really have no data that could give us any kind of clue about how well gog games sell in comparison to steam (or in general). Are 30k to high? Probably. Still the game has an incredible word of mouth and it is the most popular game on GOG, but "just" number 6 on Steam. This has to be worth something.

If the game was made with only 12-15 max members than why does Telltale games still looks and plays like shit? what kind of excuse they have?

Mosts of the writers etc behind Telltale's biggest series like TWD, Wolf and Borderlands left to make games like Firewatch and Oxenfree I believe...and there's also the popular rumor/truth that the Telltale CEO coded their engine himself and out of a peculiar sense of vainglory refuses to let them change it to something like Unity or UE4 etc.

I think it was more 10-20, actually. They started out with like 10 or 12 people or so but ended up with 20 IIRC. But yeah, it's amazing what they managed to pull off with such a small team.
