Helldivers |OT| Everybody Fights, Nobody Quits.

Bought the DLC stuff last night, and it's hit or miss. The missile launcher is awesome but not as reliable as my normal rocket launcher. I still prefer it though. And I used the mini-rocket gun you can use as a primary and the splash damage on yourself is too annoying. I had a lot more team kills with it too. I think I'll go back to justice or something.

Seems like they are overestimating the amount of people playing during the Defend Rabatishiti events... last two times weren't even close. Hopefully they tweak the speed at which the Illuminates get XP so we actually stand a chance and can get these trophies.

I think its all automated. That's why some missions can fail and some can succeed.

Just unlocked the arc gun and tried it in a level 4 planet. Pretty good against bugs. The range increases as you charge a lot more than the damage does. Still need to test damage on stronger units. There's infinite ammo. All you can really do is charge it to the max and let it rip.

Its basically shit for killing patrols but really good for killing units except tanks. Also need to test if it can go through armour.

Also if a teammate stands in your way.. he's probably going to die.

They are definitely still tweaking, but it seems like the requirements for the events vary, there was one a few days ago that was over in 30 minutes

I'm liking the laser carbine and healing drone. Don't care for the attack drone. Haven't tried the other stuff yet.

TONS of friendly fire in my games last night, so annoying. Most of it came from REALLY high level guys too. "I'm just going to spray my fully-upgraded Patriot, who cares, rigiht?" Or they just walked over/shot everyone in a mech. I had to leave way too many games cause of the complete lack of caring about teammates.

I'm thinking the medibot is pretty pointless. I fully upgraded and it is only semi-decent at healing yourself. I do a lot of support and it just doesn't seem to get the job done like the medgun.

Still on the fence with the Ninja. The Stun on the Defender was a great help, all Ninja has over top of it is more bullets, "slightly" more damage, and quicker reload. Will try it some more.

Suppressor just feels too dangerous, especially for me. Not being able to move freely and firing is a big no-no in my book. I guess that is why you can buy the bayonet...wish it was a blast shield instead.

I'm wishing I could uninstall the bayonet. It's good but too many friendly fire incidents (and it's one hit kill) or I won't melee because I fear I might kill my teammate.

Some of the weapon and stratagem distribution is pretty nutty. I joined a very successful mission last night that granted personal shields on a hard mission. Before that, I hadn't seen it below a suicide run level mission.

It seems to switch up, maybe so that nothing is really "exclusive" to people that can manage the hardest stuff. I like it!

Yesterday I accidentally walked into someone in my exo so it downed him, after he got up he proceeded to destroy my exo. Later in another game someone got caught in the crossfire and was downed, when he got up he went and killed the guy responsible. Ugh.

As in other team games, I've found my calling as the team medic/engineer. Laying out stasis fields, repairing teammates, turrets, APCs, and mechs with my healing beam, throwing out ammo and summoning my own mech when it gets tough: it's all part of the job that no one else on the team seems to want.

What's worse is when more than one person wants to medic on a hard difficulty. ugh

The Punisher shotty is ass. Breaker is OG. Constant reloading is a pain, and I use a shotgun for it's spread, which Punisher doesn't have.

Completely my experience; rocking the Breaker right now in fact (great for playing solo/stealth). Worse, I play on Vita, and although I actually like the "swipe to reload", it's definitely not meant to be done after each shot.

Also, tentative changelog for future 1.04. Manual clod sync, at freaking last!

I hardly found a random who would reload-assist me with my recoilless rifle. Hope this'll change

I simply refuse to leave the drop area until somebody picks up the pack.

My first team was moaning about having to carry the pack ... Until I took out multiple by tanks with the launcher. After that THEY were the ones saying we should go back for the pack/launcher when me or the pack guy got downed.

Hi guys!

Just want to say we are reading all your posts. We have updated the issues thread now with known bugs we are working on in 1.04. I will copy it here aswell though:

So far we have looked into these issues and hopefully have addressed them in the next patch, 1.04 (no ETA yet):
-Vehicle exit due to POI on maps
-Endless saving spin icon
-REP80 causing blue screen and crashes
-Corrupt save data
-Stuck in vehicles
-Veteran control speed bug
-Game crash at extraction point
-APC camera bug
-Manual save to cloud option

We are also aware of or still working on:
-Discovery of friends games cross platform
-Camera fixed after death
-Colourblind mode
-Bugs stopping spawning
-Disconnects

Proper patch notes will be released with patch 1.04 but we just wanted to keep you informed of the ongoing issues that we are seeing being reported.
Loving the support :)

I'd like to see them tackle the issue with the Vita version where my influence gained from playing on the Vita doesn't get counted. I'm at level 17, and apparently I have contributed 0 influence.

Looking to buy this game to play with my friends. They're on ps3 and I'm on ps4. Is cross play working?

Not yet, I believe.

The game crashing when you are getting extracted on the third mission of a level 10+ mission is just ... ugh.

Anybody knows how long the home planet attack lasts? Would suck if I miss it because the event is too short.
Finally got the shredder, now I am only missing the tesla tower.

There seems to be a lot of people who are already at level cap or close. As the level doesn't really do anything, I don't understand why they would cap it. They should just make it more open ended so some players have a reason to grind more.

Not sure about PS3 but I play with PS4 people on my Vita.

"Raised the level cap to 35" is the main reason - they just want the ability to say it and do it to make it seem like they are adding something.

They should make it the heavy armor piercing shotgun variant. The Breaker is great for catching patrols and dealing with hordes of fodder enemies, but absolutely blows at dealing with the heavily armored guys in later levels. It'd be nice if the Punisher filled that up-close, fast firing burst damage roll for dealing with the heavy armored guys.

Instead of adding weapons and armor they need to implement a way to change your color. That is probanly something that should have been in there from the start.

The Breaker is probably my favorite gun in the game right now. Just brutal when fully upgraded. Fuck the aiming module. Just point in the general direction and hold the trigger.

While we are talking about shotguns, how is the last shotgun and when do you unlock it?

I've seen some level 24 guys doing good work with it, especially using it 1-handed while carrying the black box. Haven't unlocked it myself, but it seems like a nice alternative to the Breaker. Short as hell range though, so not great at catching patrols.

Did anyone else read Q&A: The People Behind Helldivers Spill Some Secrets on Kotaku?

I'm really disappointed in how basic the questions are. Like, "What are the parameters that dictate what objectives get put on a certain map and where they go? It's procedurally generated, right?"

Can people honestly not figure that out after playing 2-3 planets? Procedurally generated content is not new.

"Do turrets really ever avoid making friendly fire?"

The description on the turrets says they will not actively target friendlies but everything in the game has friendly fire. So if you get in the danger space yes you will get hit. This is literally COVERED IN THE GAME. "The turret is capable of distinguishing friend from foe but be careful not to get in its way." and "The turret is capable of distinguishing friend from foe, but be careful with its unstoppable rounds."

I really wish game journalists were better educated in game design. Helldivers has so many fun, interesting design decisions that I'd love to chat with the devs about. It's a shame to see it squandered on questions that (I hope) any core gamer could figure out.

Game journalists are some of the worst gamers I have seen. Can't stand the Giantbomb guys and having watched some of there Quicklooks, I don't know how they can be so dumb when it literally is their job. Gameplay videos from other sites are just as bad.

What would that reason be? The point of leveling up (aside from that single upgrade point you can get in ten minutes elsewhere) is unlocking weapons and perks, and there is obviously a limited number of them, as well as of military ranks. Don't see a point in seeing a number go up with zero rewards for it.

Instead of adding weapons and armor they need to implement a way to change your color. That is probanly something that should have been in there from the start.

Your color is determined by what player number you are, right? Yellow for player 1 and so on. Admittedly neither that or any aspect of character customization is all that visible from above.

Kotaku gonna Kotaku. This is why I rely on NeoGAF for anything games-related. Apparently the devs are really responsive on reddit, in case you want to ask them anything directly.

Just to show off. I am afraid people might stop playing if there is nothing to unlock or no higher rank anymore. While you might argue that it doesn't unlock anything after a certain level, for some people even just leveling seems enough.
Heck, they can make it a prestige mode like in CoD or something.

This is a multiplayer game so the player base is something I am very concerned with.

I just bought the DLC and it's not showing up in my purchase history or download list, yet the money was deducted from my Wallet. I feel screwed.

EDIT: Weird, doesn't show up in PSN purchase history like everything else, but I do have the new stuff.

To those who have the DLC; what's the Guard Dog and Angel like?

Saw someone last night using the Angel. Seems decent, though on the harder levels there are so many things that one-hit kill you, it might be of somewhat limited utility in 10+ missions. Best feature? It works like the normal heal-beam, pickup up downed players. So no need to take the quick revive perk if you have the Angel equipped, because if it is near it will pick you up fast.

Yeah, I just bought it, as well, and it seems to all be stored server-side. I'd rather it was a download, tbh.

Do you have to be a certain level to use the DLC weapons?

I see them in my armory (no padlock on it) but they are not an option for my payload when I am starting a mission

Press right to see the other weapons of a given type on the select screen.

Yeah, the scary thing was it took 4hrs for PSN to confirm my purchase through email. I didn't even have to download an access key. Not used to that at all.

Anybody starting out in this game that wants to help a noob?
Psn is bright-light

Sure, PS4? If so add Phaethon. I need Research Points so we can go across the map grabbing samples.

I had someone kick and scream about how everyone is dead and no one called a respawn beacon when he was downed and last one standing.

You can call beacons when downed.....come on man, we were all counting on you.

Took me a while to realize this. So I don't really blame anyone for not doing it but knowing it and being fast at calling down the beacon is great.

Easiest strategems are of course UAV and Ammo.
Was thinking maybe the revive beacon should have longer input for harder drops, but they seem hard enough already.
I have yet to complete a Helldive. Haven't really tried either. Maybe try with some Gaffers this weekend.
