HELP! Switch won't connect left joycon. Stuck at startup!

Yes, turn it off and after some five minutes I reckon in this setup your left joycon should be working.

Are the lights on the joycon on?

The right one's light is stable on. The left one is off. If I press the sync button on the rail it cycles through all four lights then goes off.

welp guess its time to go shake a puppy or something or a few shots of whisky to counter act that soda in ur system and try for a replacement when you wake.

None of my Joy-Cons connected when detached, but then I figured out that there was no juice in either one. I'll just leave it to charge overnight & come back in the morning.

PMd you urging you to get a new one at Target. I don't trust GameStop to be able to or allowed to just give you a replacement joycon even if they have one.

Thanks man. You think Target will honor this even though I bought it at Gamestop?

Hm? No, sorry, I mean buy a brand new system. Then return the faulty system to GS. You'll have to get to Target pretty darn early to secure one. I don't think Target will be able to help with your current system.

Alternative idea, buy a new left JC and ask Nintendo to replace the one that came with the system...
(If you go this route I'd still start hunting for one bright and early tomorrow, no idea how fast they are selling.)

It's gonna be all right, OP.

Let's speculate why the left joycon was uncharged, could it be a hardware fault?
I dont think its a power issue. The sync lights come on and flash and all that, it just refuses to acknowledge the system.

My left joycon didnt come with a charge, which confused me since right was fully charged. It might be that on your end. I left my joycon docked for a about 10 minutes and it had enough juice to get me through startup.

Sorry if this isnt your issue and I hope it gets resolved

Mine said it was 'low' but things still went okay. OP in the settings menu...if you can get there is a initialize button. you may have just gotten it stuck in the init the system boot sequence. may want to check if there is some kind of hold the power button down for a length of time to do a reset.

sorry its happening...

At the risk of this becoming the de-facto Switch troubleshooting thread...I have a separate issue to bring up:

I bought the eShop version of Zelda, and while it was downloading I decided to stick in my Micro SD card. Zelda had downloaded about 10% onto the system memory and then just disappeared from the home screen completely after I finished formatting the SD card. So...I went to the eShop and re downloaded from my user page. After it finished...I got an error (2005-0003) and could not play the game. So I downloaded it again...same problem.

I have formatted the SD card again and re-initialized the system and am now downloading it for a third time. I hope to god it works this time. Does anyone know what the heck went wrong? Or have you experienced anything similar?

This is assuming it's the joycon at fault and not the main switch unit. While that is likely, it isn't certain. I'd return the entire thing and ask for a replacement (and have a contingency in place in case they don't have any swaps - like another one bought elsewhere and then just return it)

Buy another joycon set (or pro controller) and bitch to Nintendo. If the joycon set that came with your console is defective, you shouldn't have to return everything. They'll probably force you to mail the defective controllers in, which is why I suggest you buy an alternative while you can.

It could be the system too unfortunately.

Try removing the SD card altogether and restart the system. Is there anything left in the internal drive that needs to be deleted?

Holy crap, what a friggen' tease lol.

Man, I'm sorry this is happening for you. I'd probably try to force shut it off and turn it back on or something.

Shane Satterfield, who posted that video that showed he was having that issue where his left joycon would disconnect (not bad signal, but would lose signal and couldn't resync) said that the day one patch solved all his problems. His issue wasn't this bad though, as he could at least play it when it was in handheld mode.

You can't do anything? You can't like... bypass this step to see if you can update the system or something? (duh, I guess that's what "stuck on this screen" means)

Same for me, but the right had no charge, and also I thought I had my left JC slotted in all the way but I did not.

Hope you get it resolved. I love the idea of the joycons, but the more items included, the higher the chance of failure somewhere. Stinks.

Like there's gonna be any more available out in the wild tomorrow.

Don't be so afraid, there are plenty around in the wild. Don't let corporations tell you that "it is rare! GO GET ONE NOW NOW NOOOOOW!".

It is a defective unit, and therefore you are entitled to get a working one, or your money back. Whatever is YOUR choice. Not the store or Nintendo.

I got a replacement Xbox One controller there when it had problems like what thd OP describes. They basically tested it real fast with their own console, and handed me a new one.

Got the same problem just saw the update on the OP going back to the store ask for a other one or the joycon at lest this is bull fuck...

In Toronto Canada if that helps guess this ain't a local thing only

Any luck, uncleslappy? I'm hoping you found a good fix.

Oh, I didn't realize they did that. Thanks for the info, and I'm glad to hear they were able to help you out.
