Hey GAF, getting a Switch next week, needing advice.

Well, i was already planning on getting a Switch, but not so soon actually. Anyway, my knowledge about the console is kind of a mess so i have some questions.

First of all, it is a second hand Mario Kart 8 pack. Since it's second hand, is there any way i can claim the game for my Nintendo account or, at the very least, have access to the game having my account as the main one?

Second, am i going to be ok with a 768p HDTV?

Third, i know more or less the recommended games for the console. What are some hidden gems i should know?

Fourth, online subscription. This is a tricky one, i want to get a family subscription for Smash, Mario Kart and the NES app. Do family members have the same advantages as me? If i add my sister to my family group, will she be able to play online, use the NES app and have access to the eShop discounts just like me?

Fifht: Recommended accesories and general swag?

And... that's all by now. Just to be clear, i'm not jailbreaking it, i'm getting Pokémon Let's Go and Smash no matter what and i plan on using it mainly docked.

I use 2nd hand switch cartridges all the time. You will be fine.

Id recommend Xenoblade chronicles 2, Mario Odyssey, and Zelda botw. As for multi-player games you could try splatoon 2 and the new Mario party.

Oh and you will be fine with a 768p HDTV. In docked mode alot of games are 720p.

Screen protectors are a must.

1. I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think you can move that Mario Kart 8 game to your account, but it should be playable across all accounts. I'd give Nintendo a call, and ask them if they can help.
2. You'll be OK with that HDTV.
3. My recommendations: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 + Torna, Bayonetta 1+2, obviously Zelda and Super Mario Odyssey,
4. Family group revolves around Nintendo accounts. All accounts within the family group have all the benefits as every individual membership. They can reside on the same console, or a different one, it doesn't matter.
5. Pro Controller is all I have. A carrying case is also heavily recommended if you are thinking about taking your Switch with you.

768p TV? Man, just put that antic shit in a museum, where it should be.

Hey! It was cheap and it's a Samsung, so i bit the bait :D

Bit uncomfortable for my PC where i can easily reach 1080p, but for my Wii U works wonders. Even the JP MegaDrive looks nice :)

If you're into Japanese games, look up God Wars on YouTube if you like.

Took a look at it. Screenshots remind me to Jeanne D'arc, wich is promising

If you enjoyed Wii Boxing, ARMS is the spiritual successor but with actual meat on the bones (customization, tournaments, various minigames, etc). Pokken Tournament is another good fighter for the system. It is genuinely different from other 3D fighters out there.

For platformers, look into Flinthook, Owlboy, Slime-san, Dead Cells, Candle, and Mario Odyssey.

For puzzle, look into Puyo Puyo Tetris and Sushi Strikers. I also like Bomberman R and Overcooked for local multiplayer.

For RPGs, look into Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Octopath Traveller, and Disgaea 5.

For compilations, look into PSiKYO Vol. 1 and 2, NAMCO Arcade Pac, SNK 40th Anniversary, and SEGA Genesis Collection.

I don't bother with the online subscription. I don't think it's worth it.

Well, i'm an avid Smash and Mario Kart (+others) online player, so i can guarantee it will be worth it for me

Just one hour ago took a strool over Game and saw some of your recommendations second hand at a fine price. I'm going to have so much fun this christmas :3

Get a tempered glass screen protector. You can get a pack of them off Amazon for like $10.

Ah, gotcha. I mostly play local multiplayer.

Be careful! Switch has a lot of gems already. Don't be afraid to import since the system is completely region-free.

Seconded.

My girlfriend and I are new Switch owners ourselves (we saved for 6 months to get brand new ones, totally worth the wait). Congratulations on your purchase. It is a wonderful one.
I think the advice you need has been covered. Carry case, screen protector.

Get Stardew Valley

edit: personally looking forward to SSBU I have no doubt it will be a gem

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
Picross S and Picross S2
The Messenger
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Mark of the Ninja: Remastered
Uno

Definitely get a pro controller and maybe an ethernet adaptor (official Switch version or you can use the Wii U one).

Do you like Golf? Get Golf Story. Also recommend Celeste, Stardew Valley, Steamworld Dig 2.

+1 for the Pro Controller, better buying it now and getting as much use as possible rather than waiting like me and regretting not buying one sooner.
