Hey GAF, I'm addicted to bubble tea

so it's like tea, but for fatasses?

I am nowhere near fat, and neither are any of my friends who enjoy the stuff.

So...

Myth busted?

I know of Bubble Tea but I have never gotten a chance to try it. I have tons of stores in Chinatown that have them though. What should I try first?

Order exactly what I mentioned in the OP. You'll thank me later.

We have this all over socal.

My favorite flavors are milk tea and taro. I don't like the tapioca balls normally, but sometimes they're fun to chew on (if you're in a snack mood on top of beverage mood), and they add an additional tea taste to the drink.

There's a local restaurant here called the Blue Koi. I always hear it being advertised on NPR but I've ever tried it. One of the things they always tout is their bubble teas. Maybe I'll go there for lunch tomorrow and try one out.

Loooove this shit. So damn good.

There's a number of joints around here where you can get it, but it's not exactly convenient so I don't really get to enjoy it as much as I'd like. :(

Bubble tea is a great novelty. The tapioca balls are practically flavorless, but they're like having gummi bears in your drink that you can chew on with every few sips.

My bubble tea place tends to give me far too many though... I always ask for half the regular amount. Sometimes I just want to fucking drink my tea and not be overwhelmed by chewiness.

Okay, not really, but holy fucking shit it's so good. Honeydew + milk + tapioca pearls + light ice = iwantitinsideme.jpg

Anyone else love the stuff? I know it isn't the healthiest beverage around, but meh, I'd take a bubble tea over a beer any day.

I think they're really refreshing once in a while but they max out my sweet tooth reeealll quickly.

Also I'm quite sure one bubble tea is way worse for you than one beer.

Been popular in the Vancouver area about 10-15 years now. Not as popular as it once was, but it's still everywhere.

How do people not know what bubble tea is. I'm so glad I like in New York. I can't imagine living somewhere less culturally diverse.

get rid of the tapioca and you have the best drink ever.

hk-milktea.jpg
I'm almost with you there: I love HK milk tea too, but I like mine ice-cold.

(and BTW, I've made black tea ice cream, which is almost like an ice cream version of HK milk tea.)

Used to get it 5 times a week in Gainesville.

Moved back down to South Florida and haven't had a single one since.

and now I am craving one. This place right off campus (closed now :'() would do anything you wanted, bubble tea, bubble milkshakes/slushies, combine flavors, lychee bits instead of bubbles...

omfg the taro bubble milkshake. i'm die
I love bubble tea. Plenty of places in Toronto have it, so I'm all good here. My favourite (taro milk tea with tapioca):

Brofist!

There's only one place here that sells it. I'm interested to try it.
Actually, I take that back. seems there are actually a handful of places here that sell it.

Very easy to get in NYC. You can get it cheap too if you go to the right places :3
My favorite is Almond <3
OMG CHOCOLATE ALMOND MILKSHAKE WITH COFFEE BOBA

i'm losing it, I can't believe how long it's been since I thought about the place I always went in gainesville. I must have tried every flavor by the time they closed.

"The sugar content in most bubble teas is very high. For example, Lollicup, a tea and coffee house in California, reports that 1 cup of their bubble tea provides 54 g of sugar."

Yeah, good luck with that.

Obviously it's a novelty drink. I don't have it all the time. I wouldn't suggest anyone drink it often.

There's a bubble tea literally across the street from my apartment but I've never been there.

I've seen places advertise it but never had it... and now never will! There is crap in the drink? (looking at pictures)

My cardinal rule of beverages is no solids. Pulp is disgusting and this seems to have full on pieces of stuff in it. I don't even like ice

... I guess I'm weird :(

You don't have to get the tapioca. I never do.

You mean boba milk tea right?

I don't know why some places call it bubble but whatever.

It's for the places that can't depend on the local Asian population to turn a profit.

I avoided it for the longest time because of the balls but I finally tried it and I fucking love it. It's basically gummi fruit within an incredible tasting iced smoothie.

Love me some taro bubble tea.

Also, Ten Ren = god tier.

Ten Ren is indeed my favorite. Their actual tea is amazing too. I get it every time I am in NYC and I wish they'd open a location in Philly. Here in Philly some folks in chinatown opened at like 10th and Race called Tea Talk that is top notch though, probably just as good as Ten Ren. You can get it at many restaurants in town as well.

Edit:

Also, red bean smoothie bubble tea is where it is at.

It's a nice little dessert drink treat to have every once in awhile. I never had it, but others in my family loved it. So I tried it and ended up loving it as well. It's definitely one of those try it you might like it kind of things. Of course, if you're a health food nut, then it's probably not for you. It's not something you drink to wash down 3 meals a day, folks. Don't overreact. Do people call pizza, bread...but for fatasses? You know full well your ass would gobble down slices of pizza without a second thought.

Love living in Toronto. There is bubble tea all around me. ALL AROUND ME!
But seriously there are tons of bubble tea places here.

This shit was all the craze in toronto about 10 years ago. I don't see many people drink it now. Maybe I just don't get out much. I tried it once or twice and didn't like it.

Your point? The person said he wasn't fat, your response was to state the amount of sugar in a bubble tea. What does that have to do with his statement?

If you're addicted to extreme sugar drinks you're on your way to being fat even if you aren't at the finish line quite yet.

i could go to the mall close my eyes spin around in a circle and throw a rock - 9 times out of 10 i'd hit a bubble tea shop, guaranteed.
