Hey GAF, I'm addicted to bubble tea

It depends on what flavor you get too. My first bubble tea was Strawberry flavored and it tasted horrible. My favorite is the taro flavored one. Tastes like a really sweet vanilla to me.

I had a bubble tea specialist joint by me ... they closed down last year making me a sad gaffer.

Their lychee was amazing. :(

A number of other places offer it, but it ain't as good.

You could always just get the ones that are tea with bubbles, and forego the sugar.
The bubbles are either tapioca, nata de coco, or some other sugared concoction. While the exact calories and fat vary depending on what's used (and at least nata de coco has a lot of fiber), it's still plenty of calories even before considering any in the beverage itself.

It's kind of like the argument of "I'm drinking Vodka and soda so it's low calorie". Sure, you're not adding a ton of sugar calories from the mixer or because you are using a liqueur ... but the base alcohol still has plenty of calories. Putting back several is still gonna cost you.

Calories are not the devil if you regulate their intake and/or have a high metabolism.

Edit: I would imagine there are what? 1/4 to 1/3 a cup of tapioca pearls in them? That's under like 200 calories. That's like drinking a gatorade once a day.

Definitely dont have an issue with calories. I weigh like 117 pounds and have super high metabolism. I just want to try this stuff. Just placed an order at a wingstop and the place is next door so no excuse not to try it.

I just found the place and bought a thai bubble tea. This shit is really good!
This little city has a bit of everything. I love it here.
The place also has dozens of other bubble tea flavors like coffee and lyechee and durian so there will be lots and lots to try. Im totally going back.

Oh my gooood I have an addiction to bubble tea. Chain places usually suck for this stuff though, like Lollicup. But if I'm ever in NYC, I will always stop by a Ten Ren. Amazing place.

Uhm, I never really enjoyed it. Maybe I had some bad flavours though. One thing for certain is that I absolutely hate the pearls...

When I drink the tea too fast and only tapioca balls are left in the cup, I use them as target practice by shooting them through the straws. They stick on everything lol...

Hey, I like it :(

Too bad the only bubble tea here is awful. I want some of that buckwheat tea from Ten Ren

Hey I'm not hating, but go anywhere where there's a bubble tea shop and tell me I'm wrong. looooool

I haven't had kung fu tea yet, but if you're in the NYC area and actually want some real goddamn tea, go to Ten Ren. Just about every other chain team houses are horrible.

Fuck this "BOBA" bullshit. What a ridiculous word. I can't stand the sound of it.

It's Bubble Tea, because the tapioca represent "bubbles" in the tea.

The stuff can be delicious at the right place, but I haven't had it in years. Way too much sugar and other junk for human consumption.

No one around here calls it bubble tea.

Up here in Seattle, "bubble tea" definitely seems to be the norm.

Regardless of that, "boba" seems to originate from the Chinese 波霸, which also apparently is used to refer to "big tits".

Enjoy your "big tits tea", boba people.

Holy shit, haha - you must be right near me! Austin, TX near Parmer, no? Did you go to Tomunchi or Tea Lounge? Or maybe there's tea places near Wingstop in tons of towns and I'll look really stupid :)

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Looks like they're not just in Cali as well:

Hell yes. I grew up in Arcadia, so I grew up with Tapioca Express. So good. I moved further south, but I am going back soon to get some. Got my girlfriend hooked on this stuff.

I love boba, but sometimes the milk tea can be too sweet for me. I make it sometimes at home, but the boba from the store isn't as good as lollicup.

Well, as a Chinese guy, nice butts are harder to find than boobs.

ON TOPIC: None of my Chinese friends call it boba... either in Chinese or English.

edit: my favorite is the classic milk tea + tapioca.

I like this guy.

My favorite is a classic milk tea, "half-sugar", with tapioca from a small independent shop in the International District of Seattle, called Ambrosia.

Never have liked it. Too much sugar. Water, tea and coffee and the occasional drinks with a night out or at dinner time and I am golden. I really hate bubble tea when they put red bean in it.

Yeah, boba is slang for big tits. If you order boba tea you're gonna get the extra large tapioca.

Here is Taiwan it is 珍珠奶茶, zhen1 zhu1 nai3 cha2 "pearl milk tea." There is a tea shop basically on every block here.

And for all the people complaining about sugar, you could just...order it without sugar? I barely know any Mandarin and I've figured out how to do that.

You have to be a special kinda' weaboo nerd to give a shit what it's properly called. I've seen it called both in Austin and Seattle. I ask for the words on the menu.
