Hey gaf what do cats eat?

Cats are such whores, they all hang around other peoples houses acting all cute so they get fed by gullable humans who aren't their owners. I wish I could resist them. :(

Feed them any cold meat you have in the fridge, leftovers etc. They will regularly come back and they will stare gooey eyed at you through the window until you give them more.

Half the stuff on the 'DO' side is not great. Cats are carnivores. In fact, cats MUST eat meat. They can get a tiny amount of nutrition from other things, but not enough to survive.

The issue is that they have very short digestive tracts, so their ability to break down plant material is minimal. Feeding your cat vegetables is doing almost nothing for them.

I was laughing just the other day because I saw a commercial on TV for Hippie Brand (not really, I just couldn't bother to remember the name) cat food. It contains the "essential fruits and vegetables that your cat needs". "Hippie Brand cat food contains real sweet potato. Does the leading brand of cat food contain real sweet potato? No? I didn't think so."

Do these dudes not know the difference between carnivore and omnivore? Are they stupid, or just horribly malicious frauds? IIRC, they also equated cats with human babies and crazy cat people with proud parents, so I'm not sure if they're crazy themselves or just taking advantage of crazy.

Shouldn't really feed cats shrimp, or any seafood for that matter, it's too salty for them, once in a while is okay but not on a regular basis
Don't tell me this. My cats like canned seafood most. :(

One of my cats never touches turkey/chicken/beef.

They're all about sardines, tuna, shrimp, mackerel, etc.

Odd or funny things one of my cats will eat (the other one only eats meat and in her old age has even gotten picky about that):

Raspberry pie.
Asparagus (she used to love this, I think she still likes it but doesn't beg quite as much for it. She's getting picky in her old age)
Chick Fil A (she loves this)
McDonald's fries
Spinach
Kale (I think she doesn't anymore)
Key lime pie (I only let her almost try it to see if she would and she totally would... But citric fruit is not good for kitties and most hate citric)
Whipped creme (She will run over at the sound of a reddi whip can being used)
Pretty much anything with milk really (I think that's why she likes the key lime pie)

I had a cat who was really picky (To the point he'd eat deli turkey but not turkey fresh from the oven) who not only was picky but got tired of foods quickly who loved the tomato sauce on pizza and tomato sauce in general.

We actually tried putting a cucumber behind one of my cats. She looked at it and went back to begging for food. I didn't try it on the 16 year old, she's so high strung that would be cruel if it did scare her (This cat took me three months to get her to let me pet her when I got her as a kitten). But if it is cause they think it's a snake, I'm not sure she'd be scared. I used to have a kingsnake and she'd sit on top of the cage watching it. Dumb snake was more afraid of me than her. I'm pretty sure he had more to worry about her than me though. But he'd be a bit of a handful for her as he was a 4.5 ' snake and she's only a 6-9 lb cat depending on how fat she is at the time.

Additionally, fruits are high in sugar and shouldn't really be on the do list either because of their teeth.

I actually didn't know that either til I googled that chart

Cat knows what's up. Bananas suck.

Actually here's a list of stuff before you accidentally kill the bugger

What-food-to-feed-cats-infographic.jpg

LOL. That graphic is hilarious.

Most of those don't items of the graphic are pretty bad for the cat's health.

Milk though?

It may give the cat diarrhea. Unless the cat is ancient and dies of dehydration, the easiest course is to stop giving the cat milk if if gets the craps.

If the cat doesn't get the craps, it can handle the milk just fine.

OTOH, Tuna isn't great for cats. Mercury aside, it doesn't have the nutrients a cat needs. As a once and a while treat, OK, as a regular food, tuna's probably worse for a cat than the milk.

The souls of lonely old ladies

Cats'll eat all forbidden people food, as long as it isn't too warm. One of my little jerks will eat tomatoes as soon as my back gets turned. The thing that really gets me is that he will make no move for tomatoes if I'm not planning on eating it. It's like he knows, and only steals what I want. If I share some with him on purpose, he also loses total interest.

Mine will steal cookies and chips off of tables. She's a carb hound. They're not on the chart, so all good I guess.

just get some tuna or liver flavored kitty treats. the dry kind. Or chicken. Cats love bird. Toss a few morsels ahead of his path, do it sparingly, and don't fawn.

Yeah for some reason I initially read this title as "hey gaf who eats cats?"

Also, cat food. But if the cat looks well fed it probably belongs to someone on your street.

This cat on my street hits me up on occasion, cat seems like it's well fed wherever it lives but I planned on giving it a little something to munch on next time I saw it. I had a piece of fish last time but the cat split before I could hand it off.

If it's well fed, then you should probably not feed it.

When I was young my cat loved to try and eat the butchers string around a roast beef joint, we would never give it to her obviously.

But one day she must have got it out of the bin because she was meowing lots and had a piece of string hanging out her arse. She was clearly distressed and my dad chased her trying to pick her up so we could take her to the vet, well he accidently stood on the string and the cat kept running....

She made a little yelp and it came out in one piece, the vet confirmed she was fine luckily

I'll tell you what cats don't eat, all the boxed food they knock off the fucking counter that spills all over the place
