Hey GameStop Employees: Wii Preorders?

Status
Not open for further replies.
Is there really a need? From IGN:

Sony recently announced that it would ready 400,000 PS3s in North America and another 100,000 in Japan for the system's launch. Nintendo said it plans to ship 4 million Wii units worldwide by the end of the year.

Worldwide or no worldwide, that's a ****ing lot of systems.

gamecrazy told me that "nobody" would be taking preorders. It may have just been to get me to register for a tournament and sign up for the magazine to win a Wii..

my local ebgames said they are taking Wii preorders.
but im not getting one so....doesnt mean much to me.

for the 8738973rd time, wheres my ps3 preorder ebgames?

I've never had to pre-order a Nintendo system. A week after the N64 came out it was sold out and impossible to find, but I saw plenty the day it came out. I was able to get a GC and DSL without any hassle. It might just be anecdotal evidence, but it doesn't seem like the Nintendo fanbase are the "camp all night' type.

Besides.... 4 MILLION Wii's in 2006!

In response to PS3 preorder guy like 2 posts above..

Personally, my store isn't expecting to get more than 4 of the things. And honestly, we have no clue when we're taking the preorder. It'll be the day that our DM calls us and says, "process the next 4 preorders for any customers who ask," and that'll be about it. Entirely, entirely luck of the draw if you're in the store at the right time.

We won't know until the next conference which I think is at the end of the month. My guess is we'll start around mid-Octoberish.

You hear that Bad_Boy? Time to break out the lawnchair and cooler. Looks like you're moving to EB!

I just called my local gamestop and the ****er working there told me beginning of october is his guess for when they will be taking Wii preorders.

I was in Gamestop last week and asked the guy about preorders for Wii and PS3. He told me they were "never" doing preorders for either system, it will be completely first come first serve, mainly because of what happened with the 360 last year (supposedly they had more pre order slips than systems).

I don't think it's true though, the man seems fairly ill-informed when it came to this stuff. I'd guess early October they'll start pre-ordering.

Personally I'd rather pre-order from TRU, if they're even doing them.

On one hand I want to get out there and preorder asap, and then on the other hand I remember what happened with the Xbox 360. It almost seemed like the people who DID preorder got screwed the most since their money was already locked up.

Then again, Nintendo usually doesn't have supply problems, so a preorder would probably be pretty safe. I'm dying to get this system though.

The "next" conference? I wasn't aware there was another one...

Stopped at Gamestop tonight to check and they told me they would NEVER take pre-orders for any console ever again, including the Wii.

Also, when I asked for Lego Star Wars II, wtf did the register monkey fish through the USED GAMES before looking for a new copy? Are they trained to do that under the threat of a shock collar or something?

I was told to expect a preorder sku tomorrow afternoon. The exact same thing happened with DS Lite - they announced the date, the next day, GameStop and EB were taking preorders.

It will be after the 1st week of October. EB/GS managers have a meeting the last week of September through the first week of October. That's when everyone should have all the details for both systems.

Stores received an email today about this stuff. Zelda for Wii preorders start Friday. Expect calls if you have the GCN version reserved to see if you want to switch.

They are already taking pre-orders for the games. At least the one near me is.

not 1st party games they're not. it's only been 3rd party stuff under the Dreamcast sku

Well, they offered to let me pre-order Zelda tonight. I didn't because I want to wait to secure a system first.

If you're terse, they get in line, "don't even bother with the ****ing used games." will snap him up.

They lied to you. You won't be able to preorder it until tomorrow, the sku isn't in the system until morning updates.

My Gamestop let me convert my Zelda GameCube preorder to Zelda Wii awhile back.

Or else they wrote my name down and threw the paper away when I walked out of the store. :-(

I believe before GS received EB's POS they actually had a generic sku for reserves. Once they received EB's system they no longer had that option. Some stores might not still be converted(but I dont think so) and that's why they might be able to do a preorder for Zelda Wii.

Either way, since the sku will be up tomorrow and you've gone to a store beforehand and they told you that you have it preordered for the Wii I would go back to double check.

Thank Blu Ray for PS3's upcoming one-trumpet debut. ****, I'm gonna hate hearing about shortages and how it's "SO HARD" to find a system.

Wii doesn't come packed with a super high-end movie player, so 4 million is not only welcomed but kind've expected I'd say.

I hope somebody is doing pre-order or the supply is so plentiful you can just walk up at 10am on launch day and grab a system at Best Buy. I'm already taking a day off of work that week to camp 24 hours for a PS3; there's no ****ing way I'm doing that again 2 days later. If I can't pre-order and there's none to be found on launch day I'll just have to live with waiting until the stores restock.

I don't think stores need to do preorders due to the amount that will be available. I'm pretty confident I will be able to walk in to Best Buy on the day it is released and pick one up. I"m just glad I have preordered PS3's. Those will be much harder to come by.

The staff at my EB and I are going to just pay off a $50 game so when we hear about PS3 or Wii pre-orders we just move our pre-orders over.

If you work at an EB/GS I'd recommend this and if you don't get to know the staff well enough they'll move it over for you. We're doing it for some of our regulars.

Well the problem is my GS changes staff on a weekly basis.

That is also the quickest way to be promoted to the rank of customer with Gamestop. Talk to some other stores or DMs, they will agree with me.

rank of customer? can you elaborate?
just wondering because i already put some money down on a ps3 game.

Stores are taking reserves on games yes, not the systems. Promoted to the rank of customer is another way of saying "fired"

Former employee here. Actually if you try to purchase a new title, and the system knows that there are used ones in stock, it will suggest the person at the cash register push the used copy on the customer. I was trained to give the customer the exact same thing they bring to the register. White labels are new games, Yellow are used. It seems it's a bit different at each store though.

"If you buy Used you can return it for something else within 7 days." STFU, bitch!

Only mentioned Zelda in the e-mail and that we are waiting for launch quantities allocated to the company.. An e-mail months ago mentioned Conference would be more info, not todays.

Why do you people listen to the employees, they should just say "We don't know yet"

And I can tell you, preorders for Wii will happen, ignore everyone that says they wont.

LOL wow are you serious?

Yeap but on your second receipt (after you return your first game for the second) it says, "FINAL SALE. NO RETURNS OR EXCHANGES."

Plus my SM has told us that if people abuse it we will just refuse the return, which we have the right to do so.

Oh I knew about that. I'm wondering if he's serious about the "STUF Bitch!" part. Cause anyone with that much passion for Gamestop defense really needs help.

It will also make them want to find out where you work and bitch you out for doing your job. I don't see why a simple "No thank you" doesn't work for some people.

Also, many store employees shouldn't talk at all. "We'll never reserve a console again." Are you insane?! Color DSLites came out a couple days ago and those certainly were reserved. You'd have to be mental to think with millions at launch there wouldn't be reserves.

You can now preorder Zelda for Wii, without question.

apparently some people got automated phone calls even saying they could transfer their reserve from GC to Wii

I got that phone call yesterday afternoon...

Can I just preorder through you? I'm sick of having Game Informer pushed on me.
