Hideki Kamiya: "Multiple publishers turned down Bayonetta 2"

look at the Thread title. platinum games keep on bombing, they have tried the wacky cartoony stuff to death, them working with nintendo is probably over as well. just saying if they want a franchise that actually has a bright future maybe they can try something different.

Bayonetta 2 is their first direct sequel. I'm...not sure how you can categorize the company as having trouble with 'trying something different'.

I'd rather they keep making the games they want to make - hell they seem to be getting more work than ever. They absolutely don't strike me as a company that wants to find its 'call of duty' and milk it.

Wow, he was quite a jerk towards the end, sarcastially telling us to beg Nintendo for the game to be available on Xbox and PlayStation.

You can keep your game with Nintendo, Kamiya, people don't care as much about it as you think.

Your post is #998 in a thread started yesterday. People obviously care (some obviously too much, because some of the posts in here are just wow).

And he was hardly sarcastic, actually. The decision is legally Nintendo's to make, so who else should begging be directed to?

Go buy a Wii U and preorder the game so you don't have to make these kinds of post. Embarrassing.

Embarassing? Emabarassing is his statement - he's being an asshole towards this game's fanbase.

Myself, I didn't even care to finish Bayonetta on the 360 - it's sitting right here. I surely don't care to buy the sequel, but thanks for your concern anyway.

X1? What you on about? You posted a bloodborne screen, the PS4 exclusive you said will sell great, in a Bayo2 thread.

And he thinks that this thread is about sales and how to make a successful Platinum game. At this point I'm betting on drunk posting.

I've never played the series and would have much rather tried it on ps3 but it does look like a ton of fun and I want to support a female led game so I'll be picking up Bayo2. It's sad to hear no publishers picked it up.
The first game was shit on PS3. Horrible port job.
Now you get the best version of an amazing game and its spectacular sequel.

Yeah.

Your recipe for 'a successful Bayonetta' sounds like dogshit. I'm glad we didn't get this:

i was thinking of something more like this.

What the heck is this supposed to be?

They actually do the "wacky cartoon stuff" extremely well, you know. That's their style. That's what they're great at. If they made something different just so that it'd sell, no one would care about them.

And btw, there's another company that kept doing their own (pretty brilliant) stuff and made a game that no one would have trusted, which turned into a pretty big success. You probably know the company I'm talking about.

Platinum Games is gonna Platinum Games, like always. No amount of sales is gonna change what they do. If they make something different then so be it, but they will always push out a product in their vision.

i'm not buying an xbone. bloodborne, is something that i would consider great art style that has mass appeal=great sales.

Who cares about Mass Appeal and Sales. You are the sole person buying the game and playing it, unless you don't actually play any of the games you talk crap about and just play the "sales" game.

Two years of being asked the same dumbassed question every day on Twitter will do that to a man.

Oh I know the ps3 one had it's problems. I just prefer ps3 controls for games like this since I believe it's a similar combat system to DMC series which I adore.

Either way, hearing it's a better port(Wii U) does sound good.

Why did he even suggest port begging Zelda? That's sarcasm, that's ironic because he suggests something obviously impossible. As impossible as a Bayonetta 2 port.

I'll give you that, yeah, there is a degree of care. Posting on a heated internet forum is too easy though - we'll have to see how much of this 'care' will be translated into actual game sales.

You have to look at the bigger picture - PG have deals with Activision AND Microsoft right now for upcoming games. PG are a very respected developer and they didn't need massive sales to earn that respect.

It's very weird that some people seem like they'd rather Bayo 2 didn't exist at all than exist thanks to Nintendo paying for it.

Embarassing? Emabarassing is his statement - he's being an asshole towards this game's fanbase.

Sorry, what? You mean the retards "boycotting" B2 in the stupidest ways possible? The complete brainless entitled dumbfucks who can't understand that B2 would not even exist without Nintendo? The people threatening him? What the fuck? Sorry but retarded 12 year old console fanboys with no braincells whatsoever don't deserve anything better than that.

Myself, I didn't even care to finish Bayonetta on the 360 - it's sitting right here. I surely don't care to buy the sequel, but thanks for your concern anyway.

So, you're just spouting bullshit because he offended you by not acting like a PR mouthpiece, despite not understanding the situation he was in. You don't even care about the game, it's just that you got way too used to corporate "respect" and get bewildered when you actually see an individual with their own opinion.

It's very weird that some people seem like they'd rather Bayo 2 didn't exist at all than exist thanks to Nintendo paying for it.

Aka retarded entitled morons. Seriously, there's no defense for that. It's pure ill-will, but what's worse is when they're trying to rationalise it, despite lacking the brain power even for elementary logic.

It's really weird how many people seem to be concerned with Platinum's future despite this

It's difficult to say if Bayo's art was a major roadblock, personally I thought it was awful, but I doubt a lot of genre fans thought it was so bad they wouldn't play it.

It's kinda sad how this situation has been going on for two years now... Yet those same dedicated fans still won't buy Wii U to play Bayonetta 2 for reasons. SMH, hope Nintendo doesn't think negatively about publishing other dead IPs in the future.

Yep, it's so terrible that they won't spend $300 for one game.

Yep, it's so terrible that they won't spend $300 for one game.

It's actually $300 for at least two games. Everyone is clamoring for Kamiya's old work, when his masterpiece is sitting on the system unloved. You really think he cares how you feel, when you're literally telling him you only want one thing from him, and only because of it's status as a known quantity?

$400-500 on the promise of IPs they actually enjoy. If the only game they are interested for the Wii U is Bayonetta then yes, it's spending $300 for one IP.

If your taste in games is such that you desperately want bayonetta but nothing else available on the WiiU, then there is nothing on the Xbone or PS4 currently out that would appeal.

Yep, it's so terrible that they won't spend $300 for one game.

The problem is the degree of idiotic entitlement, the way "fans" take not getting B2 on their platform of choice as a personal offense from Kamiya, despite the known history of the game. If someone doesn't want to pay $300 for it, that's their choice (although it's not like the new consoles have a better lineup at the moment than the Wii U), but that's not the main issue.

Really now? Perhaps people don't enjoy Nintendo IPs. Perhaps people do enjoy Uncharteds, Last of Us, GTs, Demon Soul type games, etc. Perhaps people enjoy Halo's, Killer Instinct, Forza, etc. Not everyone enjoy's Nintendo IPs like Zelda, Mario, Pokemon.

Yep, it's so terrible that they won't spend $300 for one game.
Lol. Why does it only have to be one game? The only game that I actually want on the PS4 is Rime, yet I'm still planning on buying it. Whatever comes along the way is extra value. The Wii U has many games in different genres that could interest the person, but in the event there is none.

You could play Bayonetta 2 to completion in a week or less and then sell/ return the Wii U console and everything else at near price. SIMPLE.

If people care about Bayonetta enough to complain for several years you think they'd have saved up a few extra dollars by now.

Yeah they could have just saved up 10$ a month since the announcement of Bayo2 of Wii U and they would be able to afford a Wii U, Bayo 2 and still have quite a bit leftover.

Umm not everyone enjoys all those games either. This is very subjective

But every 'promised' IP so far has been noted disappointments. So much so, that 'manufactured hype' is becoming regularly used on this board. So why would I wait for another thread of how some AAA publisher decided to rip out half the game to sale me the original promises they made? What is so great about that, when I can go grab highly rated complete games, even if they only come once or twice a month?

Which as an argument makes sense if all those franchises have games out on the Xbone or PS4 (they don't), Nintendos IPs only consist of Zelda Mario and Pokemon (they don't) or if Nintendo IPs are the only titles available on the WiiU (they aren't).

Who said that everyone ejoy's all of those games? The point is many can't justify spending $300-400 for one game which is why the Wii U is selling as terribly as it is and on the otherhand the PS4 is outselling everyone, not to mention the X1 is making a comeback.

Then enjoy the Ninja Theory DMC sequel and stop whining about not being able to play Bayonetta 2.

Embarassing? Emabarassing is his statement - he's being an asshole towards this game's fanbase.

He is sarcastic about the people who don't get it that is it impossible to port bayo2 to a non-nintendo console, because Nintendo funded the game. It is real simple, but some people are obviously mentally challenged with this fact.

If anything these people should be angry about Sony & Microsoft because these companies didn't want to fund Bayo2.

art/graphics is a huge factor in game sales. i can't think of any other reason why it would bomb so bad that it can't even get a sequel, and no publisher would fund it for multiple consoles, except nintendo.

I would like to know which companies turned down this.

Too bad if this one fails on Wii U, there is rather no chance for 3.

Only in Kamiya / Bayonetta 2 threads.

yea a unique work of art that nobody buys, hell yes it would have sold much better, game getting 90% on metracrtic, being called the best action of last generation, and yet sega cancelled and nobody wants to fund it, publishers clearly see something unappealing that won't sell.

Publishers are actually pretty fucking bad at discovering new successes, to say the least. This is why they rely on "power playing" franchises, by heavy marketing, high production value (thus "accidentally" increasing the barriers of entry), super safe gameplay and a controlled press to sell their new franchises. In other words: they try to control the market. This idiocy created a situation in which, despite better development tools and more hardware power, you have to sell a million copies of a game to break even and all local flavour and niches start to disappear, because only wide appeal stuff can sell so much. This is why new gens will never reach the greatness of PS2 gen (except for the low cost stuff maybe, but that's also not without its problems) and why Nintendo's lower cost hardware strategy could have helped third party developers if they weren't complete morons. And there exist people ("gamers") that actually want everyone to conform to this. So awesome.

art/graphics is a huge factor in game sales. i can't think of any other reason why it would bomb so bad that it can't even get a sequel, and no publisher would fund it for multiple consoles, except nintendo.

Most publishers don't fund anything that their idiot corporate-think managers believe is in any way risky. This didn't exactly result in a more diverse and competitive market, just the opposite.

Kamiya treats the supposed fanbase the way they (sadly) deserve to be treated; as morons in complete and utter denial.
