Hidetaka Miyazaki Interview with Xbox Wire Japan

mr. miyazaki:

it's not particularly inspired by any particular game,

as a user, i play many open-world games called masterpieces,

i was very inspired by each of them.

i don't have time to mention the title,

Like The Elder Scrolls series and The Witcher 3.

especially in recent years, i think "the legend of zelda: breath of the wild" has been mentioned.

I can see the inspiration from TES when it comes to making the copy paste caves and mine shafts with repeated assets.
And in the castle areas, some times they remind me of the architecture and textures from TES but with a FROM touch to them. More shadows and grim looking aesthetic but based on the same kind of medieval castles from TES.

BotW was obviously the largest inspiration in Elden Ring.

Care to be more specific?

I played Bloodborne and my next was Elden Ring, the only thing I saw was 'An Open World Bloodborne'.
Is Elden Ring have any stamina bar to climb mountains or weapon durability?

It is a big open world. That's really the depth of the comparisons honestly. People will go on and on about "Oh it's the sense of freedom in this game that obviously inspired Miyazaki. . ." or some abstract nonsense. ER feels and plays like Openworld-Dark Souls. Full stop.

I don't think so.
Elden Ring doesn't compare in terms of scale, weapon function, gameplay mechanics, overworld diversity...basically anything. In single terms, ER is basically an open world Souls game.

If it is because its an"open world" then theres tons out there,so take your pick.
Want a real example of a game who took inspiration from BoW? Genshin Impact.

I guess people still don't get the influence of BotW at all, or understand what it is doing that developers took note of.

It's impressive for it's design of the open world layout. At nearly every point in Breath of the Wild you can stop somewhere in the open world and see three planes of interest: 1) something interesting immediately next to you, 2) something interesting middle distance from you, 3) something interesting at extreme long distance. That's it. It was level designers continuously going over the open world over and over and tweaking it's design to have elements at the right distances and the right frequency so that you can organically find things of interest and organically tell where you are in relation to long range objects. That's it. And yes, Elder Ring open world does this extremely well and it's very reminiscent of Breath of the Wild.

Everything else is just plugging in Dark Souls design elements on top for the most part.

I feel like people are 'bruh is a open world so is a BOTW'.

I mean, I played Genshin Impact, and Genshin Impact is totally a 100% BOTW clone.

BOTW and diversity are like water and oil. Games a great physics system but non stop repeated assets. Elden ring has more unique enemies than any open world in ages.

Stay winning best boi.

I know Armored Core was leaked, but I wish these news outlets would ask him for a hint on what's next dammit.

thank you! wheres the diversity? theres like 4 towns, 4 repetitive divine beasts and 120 repetitive shrines. it even has the dreaded ubisoft towers that everyones rips other games for. look, i love botw but it has many flaws. imo its not even the best zelda game. i just played wind waker hd and twilight princess hd again and enjoyed both more than botw.

What the actual fuck are you talking about. Elden Ring has less diversity in weapon function, gameplay mechanics, and overworked diversity than. . .Breath of the Wild???

Re-read again please. I say it doesn't compare. Where do you read me saying that ER has less weapons than BoW?

Rhadan is probably the most frustrating fight I had in the game. But it is very cool ,and the festival is a highlight.

The favorite for me is still Margit, because of the foolish ambitions troll at death and it took me over 2 hours to beat him. I essentially learned how to play the game at that fight.

Tbh I thought Radahn was too easy for such a cool intro a second phase entry. Maybe I was overlevelled.
