HiFi Rush flopped - Jeff Grubb

I didn't watch it but if this true then I'm incredibly sad, Hi-Fi Rush looks like very high quality game, it deserves more.

Should have been hyped more than just shadow dropped

Also, if MS is going to put these games on GamePass I don't know how they can judge whether it did well enough. Doubt it brought in many subs.

Hopefully MS can see it's good reception as a sign of success rather than sales because it was sent to die…I wonder how they expect these games to sell when they are on GP?

MS ≠ Bethesda

i sense some culture clash

I'm sure they do measure some loss of sales as expected, but also exposure.

That said, I think it would be very foolish of MS to judge a game, especially one like this that has a low profile, by it's sales or even how many subs are looking at it just right now.
It's games like this that build up Gamepass as a place to go for all kinds of good games, and see what you can find, it should really be measure by years, not months. It's 20 of these games that wins the day, not 1.

If they wanted profitability they should have kept Bethesda (and soon to be ABK) games as purchase only and kept Game Pass for the other 15 studios. If they're shocked they haven't made ground on Sony/Nintendo, release more games instead of purchasing more studios.

Isn't this just some guy saying what he thinks ? How is this conformation of anything ?

That's precisely what it is.
Listened to that clip and it was pretty much just incoherent nonsense.

"Game didn't sell, people played it for free on Gamepass. Also, Gamepass subscribers didn't have any game to play"

A game of that nature wouldn't break the budget, and hence wouldn't need to sell that many units to break even. Not to mention success criteria on console is largely tied to GamePass

If I ran that place and it was up to me, id do a worldwide
mib-meninblack.gif
on the xbox fan base making them forget about gamepass now that I have plenty of studios so I can sell these games.

LOL, obviously. Microsoft has barely mentioned it since release, and watching the influencer crowd pretending to love it was nauseating.

It was an over-designed, smug mess.

One of the best rated games on Steam. Extremely positive reviews. Still this year's highest rated new IP on Opencritic.

I guess the 'influencer crowd' is everywhere? 😂

Yeah but I guess 99% didn't...why pay extra for a game when it's 'free' on gamepass.
It's an incredible take, but some gamers dont give a shit on gamepass and buy games on steam....Not to mention GP is not available everywhere...
I know it's a shock, but US and UK are not the only countries with gamers.

No games sell on Xbox anymore.

I'm sure the Steam sales were orders of magnitude more than what actually sold on Xbox.

You can't give games away and then expect people to pay $40-70 for them. You've already successfully devalued your product so much that most people on this forum will say they're free.

So, we trust grubb now?

I still think microsoft/Xbox need to do a huge push for this game this summer showcase. The characters are amazing. Do a Netflix series. Think outside the box MS.

Played it on Game Pass. Loved it, probably my favorite new game this year. I'll buy it on Steam at some point but I'll wait for a hefty discount first.

Microsoft expects people to pay $10 - 15 per month, every month, to play these games. That's what they want.

none of these are 'given away'. Such a strange argument.

Sure it is.

It didn't catch on because it wasn't very good.
Game was excellent, and the large majority of people who played it agree with this, as well as critics aggregators.

We understand that for some reason you absolutely need to shit on it, but this isn't even the subject of the thread, and you are ridiculous.

Bethesda is not the same anymore after the MS acquisition. You can see it in all their new games and it's very sad. I hope Starfield at least will be a reasonably good game, it's my last hope for Bethesda.

lol, that is a very large team though. They'll be just fine. They had issues why prior to MS buying them and I don't think this purchase would negatively effect much of their games if any.

Keep in mind, I don't even know if we've actually see a game put out made from the start of the purchase to release to really say their new games that recently came out are bad based on that purchase.

They've put out some flops before this though lol

Shadow dropped with no marketing.
On Gamepass

Where did they think the money was going to come from?

It's honestly a game that should be on Switch and PlayStation.

Xbox can have their cake and eat it if they so choose.

is a little bit more complex than that.

Just listened to this from the 22minute mark for a couple mins. Jeff absolutely nails it here. We don't feel as confident as we did at the start of the gen and xbox should be steering the ship and making decisions. If they aren't? Hire people that can....

I don't know how they expected to make money on a game that was shadow-dropped on a sub service where people can play it for "free." And people wonder why the third-party splits are widening in favor of PS & publishers like SE don't even care about porting to Xbox. All self-inflicted, let them keep doing this to themselves.
