Since the new year is about to hit and most new albums, both mainstream and underground, have dropped. I thought it would be a nice idea to make a thread to help fill peoples Hip Hop music voids. I'm a pretty heavy hip hop head so I'm always on top of new album releases but even I let a few gems fall through the cracks.

My GF works at a local music store and hooked me up with a few CDs for Christmas this year. I was pleasantly surprised by one standout album.

Blu & Exile's Below the Heavens

This shit is fucking hot, everything from the lyrics to the beat is top notch. The whole album for the most part is pretty damn raw, it's probably towards the top of my list for album of the year. I've been spinning this shit nonstop since Christmas.

Heres a sample:

Blu & Exile - Soul Amazing

I've got a few more I'd like to recommend but I'll do it a bit later. Feel free to recommend anything from previous years, it doesn't have to new.

Basically Hip-Hop has gone drastically down hill IMO so I don't really have any new recomendations and my golden era was early to mid 90-'s since i'm old :lol . Here are some I really like . As you will obviously see i'm mostly east coast stuff so If your more of a West Coast person you might not like my list . I used to listen to alot of underground since I knew Sage Francis and Clockworks personally but i'm not feeling to many people out currently. Unfortunetly I don't really listen to much new stuff which is sad. Erule is pretty sick.

De la Soul - De La Soul is Dead and Bulhoone Mind state
Tribe Called quest - Low End Theory and Midnight Mauraders
Nas - Illmatic ( Personally my favorite hip hop album ever)
Jay-Z - Reasonable doubt, and the 2 others following weren't bad. All downhill after that.
Biggie- Ready to die
Roots - Do You Want More
Wu Tang - 36 Chambers, Raekwons Cuban Linx Album and I absolutely recommend GZA - Liquid Swords
Souls of Mischief - 93 til Infinity ( The third eye vision album with all the Hierogliphics wasn't too bad)
Del The Funky Homosapien - No Need For Alarm
Smiff and Wessun - The Shining
Mobb Deep - The Infamous
Gang Starr - Hard to Earn , Moment of Truth
Jeru the Damaja - Sun Rises in the East
Black Sheep- A Sheep In Wolves Clothing
Pretty much any old Eric B and Rakim
Public Enemy - Nation of Millions
Pharysde - Bizarre Ride
Common- Resurrection

There's alot more but no full albums I could recommend off the top of my head.

Yeah, I cosign Blu & Exile, as well as Insight and Damu (Y-Society). If you like Blu, be sure to be on the look out for Johnson & Jonson his new group. The album leaked way too early, I feel bad for em. Check their video on youtube called "Bout It Bout It" and their Myspace for some samples.

If you're feeling the current LA scene (who isn't) be sure to check out Inverse. They are releasing a pre-album album "So Far..." tomorrow (not sure what time exactly, but they say New Years Day). Very dope crew with a great ear for beats. (M-Phazes, Decap, Kno to name a few). Their album is going to be executively produced by Kno & Decon of APOS/CL.

If you're a fan of that Madvillain/Madlib sound, give a listen to Uncut Raw. If you like that dirty sound, you'll dig this... if you don't, just ignore it.

If you're a fan of Atmosphere, I recommend heading over to rhymesayers.com quickly to download their free album, Strictly Leakage (released Christmas Day). They could have sold this one.

Names to remember: Black Milk, Jay Electronica, State Cap., Termanology, and I can't really think of anyone else.

I almost didn't click that link because even though you said it was hiphop I was looking at the cover saying "this is some neosoul bullshit":lol

Pretty tight beat. Sounds like DJ Premier.

I'll just recommend Edan's "Beauty and the Beat" album, because everybody else I can think of will probably get a mention. Not really what you'd call a new release though.

Yeah, this dropped in 05... definitely not for everybody, but if you have patience, it is worth checking out. I am a big Edan fan, and didn't like it on first listen, but I kept listening and I grew to love it.

Nujabes - Modal Soul

It's a little old, but amazing

Edit: for anyone curious, its mainly instrumental, jazz influenced hiphop.

Anyone here listen to Asamov?

Their album, And Now... is very good imho.

I also like some Little Brother and if anyone has heard some of the Cookin' Soul remixes, they are great as well.

I guess my tastes are more mainstream. I'm gonna keep it to this year.
Chamillionaire's Ultimate Victory
Lupe Fiasco's The Cool
Nas's Hip Hop is Dead
Kanye West Graduation
Jay-Z's American Gangster
Ghostface Killah's Fishscale
Immortal Technique's Revolutionary Vol 2

I think that's it for this year for the stuff I listen to and recommend.

The Sound Providers are pretty dope.

Jean Grae. Illest female emcee still rapping. Can stand toe to toe with most male emcees.

Other CD my GF got me was Cunninlynguist's (Dumbest name haha) new album Dirty Acres. Not as good as their previous stuff IMO but it's still better then most shit being released today.

Cosigned. Nujabes' beats are the shiznit. Almost every track on this CD is amazing. I'm not very fond of "Sea of Cloud" or "Light on the Land", and Shing02 is kind of rough in "Luv (sic) pt. 3", but this is still an excellent album. My favorite song has to be "Feather". That guy from Cyne flows well and complements the beat perfectly.

Cise Starr :P

WU TANG - 36 CHAMBERS IS THE BEST HIP HOP ALBUM EVER
Also, Nas - Illmatic, and Rakim are cool. NWA - Straight out of Compton is also a must listion

Hey guys, this is up for download now. Just check their myspace blog for the free link. I'm downloading now.

I wish there was more groups like these. Story telling and no fuckin bragging about all the cash they have, I can't relate to that shit.

I just found out Hydeout Productions Volume 2 came out about a month back - like Vol.1 its mainly produced by Nujabes. I've got to check it out!

“The Nacirema Dream”

LOL

like the Nacirema Dream is ever going to drop. The only dropping pap did was off his label. Papoose hasn't been good since "a threat and a promise", his buzz is over and I'm tired of defending some of his wack ass punch lines. Dude used to get off, but not so much anymore. wtf is a "get guap", ughh.

Bishop Lamont - N*gger noize mixtape
200px-Nigger_Noize.jpg

Downloadable free, and has some nice tracks. Not oldskool but still dope imo.

Madvillain is great too, but I'm sure almost everybody knows it.

Thx for the reccomendations in this topic, sounds good.
