I enjoy American Pickers am I a bad person now?

I love how on the History channel those people are worshipped and called "collectors" but on A&E they are mentally incompetent and called "Hoarders". Maybe the American Picker guys should go on Hoarders and buy some of that crap they throw out.

Don't even fucking get me started.

Nat Geo is still okay and 1/3 of Animal Planet is still pretty decent and informative.

But yeah, all the good channels are fucked.

Nothing will ever be as painful as Tech TV becoming G4.

WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN US CAT SCHWARTZ????

It was fine at first.

Now it's just Spike with occasional videogame coverage.

for a few years, all these cable channels have gone to shit since the dawn of Reality TV

TLC, History, Discovery have all gone to shit

remember 10 years ago ? well that is the past and this is now... all these channels suck

I remember when Deep Impact/Armageddon came out... every show was about an Asteroid Destroying the Earth.

Might have been Discovery or TLC... but those shows made me paramoid

In a year, this guy will have reached the level of Super Saiyan.

HOLY SHIT..I spit water on my keyboard when I looked at this.

It really does bother me that "History Channel" dives so far into the conspiracy world. We've already got enough stupid people on this planet. The last thing we need is actual channels pretending to be about "History", when it's actually not.

With that said, I fucking love Pawn Stars, American Restoration, and American Pickers! :p

Apparently he's in the running to replace Londo Mollari as Centauri Ambassador on Babylon 5.

And yet the various BBC units still produce the best documentaries in the world, especially nature and travel series where they are unparalleled.

Lay off the masons. That's some cool shit. The rest, however, is nothing more than entertainment. Get over yourself.

wait, what? fuck you, we kind of want quality history programming on the history channel

I love how shows like Ancient Aliens constantly jump to conclusions based on some hilariously flawed logic path, and then present it as fact backed up by "experts".

I know I'm an old man because shows like this just make me angry and cause me to yell at the television.

At least, when I was younger, Leonard Nimoy had the decency to let us know that all of this stuff was conjecture and hypothesis, and that channels that claimed they were about learning were actually that. Kids these days are totally fucked between this shit, reality television and our current political rhetoric.

*yawns*

Masonic numerology and geometry can be perceived anywhere. If you are gullible and enough of a drooling moron to listen to people who see this shit in swiss cheese and penis shapes and lady gaga's hairdo, this programming is perfectly suited for you.

As far as I care, History Channel knows which buttons to press to get the ratings up.

Call me when they start discussing Xenu, that's when the real fun starts.

History still has a few shows I watch, I like Decoded (even though they always get one step away from proving something and have to stop), American Pickers, Monster Quest (For some reason I love shows like this and Ghost Hunters), and other random shows.

I think the problem is that REAL History Documentaries are "boring" to most people. Me? I find them fascinating and love to have them on especially in the background when I'm on the computer.

But whenever my gf says she can't sleep, I put on history channel and she's out like a light. Then again, she love reality TV shows where people are arguing constantly. Yet when I see that, I pass out immediately.

I think they're just trying for more viewership. I think they need to ditch the strange theories and really DIG into History w/ some specials. Not just western history either.

I'm really smart (incredibly so, check my other posts where I talked about how I aced tests without studying!), so why can't they tailor their programming to my incredibly smart needs?

Because of reasons!

NEW YORK, September 27, 2011 – Continuing its phenomenal ratings success, HISTORY secured its best 3rd quarter ever in all key demos. Driven by the strength of the network’s original hit series – American Pickers, American Restoration, Ice Road Truckers, Pawn Stars, Top Gear, Top Shot, and Swamp People– HISTORY ranked in the top 3 among all key demos for the quarter.

:(

Pawn Stars is awesome though

Ancient Aliens is one of the most entertaining shows to come around in the past few years. What the fuck is wrong with you people?

I know! It is single handily giving the Sci-Fi channel a run for it's money!

Ancient Aliens guy is on Joe Rogans podcast sometimes too. Joe is far too lenient on him.

And I don't like America Pickers, they're too happy to pay someone bugger all for something they know is worth a shitload, you just don't see Rick trying to milk people for their items like that.

... so what you're saying is Joe Rogan IRL is actually similar to the character he played on News Radio?

The thing about the Ancient Aliens show is that, they'll often showcase areas of geographic interest that I had no idea even existed. They'll spend a good few minutes on what I would consider legitimate "mysterious history" of an area, before reducing it to a "Could it be...", "Is it possible...." Aliens question.

That's a shame, because I would love to see a more fully featured show on some of the archaeological sites they've showcased - like Gobekli Tepi. Seeing that on the Ancient Aliens show prompted me to pick up the National Geographic magazine that featured the site on the cover.

I'm not sure if the other channels like National Geographic or even Discovery have shows or give routine coverage to bizarre or interesting archaeological sites.

I guess the issue was they weren't making enough money so they figured they'd create a show about following 2 swampbillies around shooting alligators because their job apps to Walmart got turned down or something and another show about driving semis on ice through the middle of nowhere. Very fascinating stuff.
That swamp show is awesome. I like how they are a part of the upper middle class lol. They make tons of money hunting gators.

I liked when the History channel was all about WWII. Thanks to my dad watching it none stop I didnt have to crack open my history text book in highschool once.

It's better than how TLC used to be obsessed with little people and ladies that had clown cars for vaginas.

lol

but yeah, Discovery has fallen into the same pile of shite with every other show about guns/workshop-ing or yet another "survival" scenario. I catch the odd Mythbusters episode here and there, but even that has become hard to watch since they started scripting some of that cringe-worthy dialogue

I just noticed that History International is now H2.
FaRse.png

Execs say they're ramping up H2's original productions to offer "a deeper perspective" on the past. So of course the big showcase for that is History of the World in 2 Hours (Sunday 9-11 p.m. ET on H2; encoring Thursday, Oct. 6 at 9 p.m. ET on History).

So much for depth.

But H2 is also picking up premiere episodes of longtime History favorite Modern Marvels (Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on H2), as well as The Universe (Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on H2). So we're hoping for the best out of what might otherwise seem a disappointing decision to move another niche channel toward the mainstream.

Right, but this is like saying "I remember when Cartoon Network had cartoons"

To be fair, they are playing cartoons now. I mean, yeah they got Dude, What Would Happen, that one game show, that other show involving destroying things and the occasional "real" movie, but it's a far cry from that entire CN Real stuff they were doing years ago. At least we don't have to deal with Out of Jimmy's Head.

Kinda bummed out about Toonami's seemingly sudden disappearance though.

Thanks whoever mentioned TechTV/G4 though... that was like the channel I used to watch back in 2005. :(

You you know what the ironic thing is? I was sick a week or two ago and had that laying in bed in all day kind of fever sickness. I'm watching the History Channel's like 18 part documentary on the American Revolution from like 5 years ago completely riveted. Thing is I'm watching History International. Oh, by the way, that's been rebranded to H2. So apparently H2 is the real History Channel now. It's like when VH1 and MTV2 became the only channels that actually showed music videos. Even the Discovery Channel sucks balls these days. I've resorted to watching some channel called Green Earth to get some of my history fix now, but even they have Deadliest Catch knock offs now with swordfish fishermen.

I'm literally considering switching to C-Span's book tv just to get my tv history fix now.
