What I kept hearing the most yesterday was that in game one 'canes were suffering from a week long break and their bodies not being back at peak physical performance. There's a certain logic to it but I wasn't convinced. The coaching staff are well aware this can happen and their practice sessions were probably ran with that in mind.
And yet they got outclassed in game 1.
I get the feeling those were the real hurricanes we saw tonight. I'm rooting for the habs but this will not a be an easy series to win. winning in 4 would've been nice, to give a chance to some players to heal, that ain't happening now. St-Louis will need to figure out a play style that will give his team back control of the ice to give his players the room they need to score some goals.
Winning in 4 for Habs was never in the cards imo. It's more a knock in the teeth to all peoples who thought Canes would sweep Habs because they swept the previous two baby seals.
It was also the real hurricanes in game 1 after ~10 mins. Problem is Habs had already hurt them a lot in those first 10 mins. They just did not expect the habs to play like that. But 2nd period and 3rd was usual Canes. It's the Canes' "too agressive" style which most teams fold.
They adjusted for 2nd game to have a tight defense.
Personally, considering last night was Canes' "revenge" mode and probably their best, when they are well rested, I think Habs will be fine. I felt Tampa was way worse than that. Habs will adapt their game to it, like they've done in previous rounds.

Problems with the Habs last night
Blind passes behind, dumping the puck and nobody to go there, or if you have momentum they were changing trio, being cute with the puck and getting it stolen by canes. Anderson's two goals were simple, just hard work and fighting.
Kapanen has to be out next match. He's in way over his head in playoff. Put Gallagher in, a fucking warrior, he'll also always bother the other goaler. Or even Veleno is a better pick than Kapanen.
I would remove Dach too if I could but I doubt MSL will do that.
I would perhaps even put Xhekaj brother
s in,
high energy / hitman to bother Canes and also keep everyone in check. Analysts would say you sacrifice speed here but fuck, Dach and Kapanen were not skating so what's lost. Arber vs Struble who made so many mistakes is also not a negative gain swap.
Texier needs a slap for that stupid penalty, they had momentum at the end of 2nd period, starting 3rd with a penalty is just ouf.
Dobes has to be told to calm the fuck down and not get penalties
Habs will probably have to go back to Tampa strategy if Canes want to be like that. Except Canes don't have Tampa's offensive power.
