Home beta extended, Home versions 1.00 and Firmware 2.5

This feels the same way: overly ambitious, underfunded, and not meeting the needs that people actually want from such a concept.

:lol :lol :lol

How much do you think they've put into home exactly?

:lol :lol :lol

I'm sick of hearing that it's coming in a couple months only to have it pushed back again and again. Really they should just shut up about it until it's ready for everyone to use.
That's what they've essentially been doing, though. If they didn't talk about Home at all, 1) there'll be absolutely no interest at all, and 2) people would assume it's a dead project.

I doubt it matters though, people in general don't care now and likely never will. Should've been released in some form in October 2007.

it's ABSOLUTELY DEFINITELY coming by the end of this year was the last that was said on this right?

If this drags on much longer i can see it getting a bullet in the head.

Those clan features like club house, bulletin board and join/check for active online games in the current area sounds sweet.

But Home will be delayed forever so it doesn't matter.

I don't understand why they don't just open it up to everyone now and just continually patch and improve it. Like with gmail.

maybe because they are afraid people will think it's shit

but the buzz for this has died a long time ago

Probably a host of legal issues... as well as the fact that if it's not compelling from the beginning, people will just ignore it.

I dont see how they would kill it. From personal experience in dealing with Sony, Home is hugely important to them, so that would definitely be odd.

I'm in teh beta now and not one time - one fucking time - have i been able to log in.
Make sure you use it on the account that got the beta and not on another account.

It's working fine here, and far from dead btw... I count at least 50+ ppl in the main space, and around 20 on the game space.

I only have one account. Everytime I try to connect it just says try later or restart your console or whatever. It just never ever works.

Well, they said "Fall 08" so the first day of Winter is technically 12/21/08 so they have until 12/20/08 to release it and still not be delayed (this time).

Home was announced last year. Why are people acting like this is Final Fantasy XIII or something?

"It started life on PlayStation 2, actually. It was something we were working on to create an interactive 3D lobby that would become a launchpad for a number of online games. But, the PlayStation 2 -- great platform though it is -- was coming up against some technical limitations in some of the user-created content that we wanted to put into the space, because we didn't have a hard drive in every PS2, and we didn't quite have the 3D processing power that we wanted. So, we thought that this would be better off on PlayStation 3, and we've been working on it for about two and a half years." - Phil Harrison March 2007

LBP and Home were shown together and LBP looked miles away from Home yet LBP is already here and even though Home is here, it really isn't. My interest @ Home is 0.5%, that's only because devs have shown little interest. Will increase/decrease depending on what they offer.

It was actually GDC 2007 :p

*edit* Damn, missed the stealth edit :p

That's what people said for some online only games such as SOCOM, and it had some issues early on (thankfully they are being solved). With the way things have been in certain online games, I hope Sony gets the network issues ironed out (where I'll be able to get on Home any time without issue) then release it as is, buggy (where it will be a headache to get on).

From what I heard (I'd have to dig up the article), what took Home so long was Sony had one direction for home, but felt it was the wrong direction (not a big benefit for gamers), so they decided to redo it and go in a different direction.

I'll be ready for home when it's ready, but I try not getting excited until I'm in it.

I think the reason Sony still mentions it is people want to hear about it, but if they stay quiet (when it's not ready), people start to worry and might consider it canceled (when it's not).

I've thought for some time that this will be shitcanned.

It's way too late now for it to have the impact Sony wanted it to have.

I got into the beta like a week or two ago but have only touched it once since there are too many games worth playing that just came out.

I got to the lobby area where there were like 3 other people, and then the game froze on me when I was browsing through the PSP pause menu thing. I still do think it has a lot of potential... but I can understand why they haven't unleashed it to the public just yet.

They should have waited to announce it at this years GDC. LBP could have stood on it's own. I think that people are just going to download it, create a new avatar, living space, walk around a bit, check some stuff out then never go back to it.

I'm still waiting to see *why* I need to go into home rather then just launch my game directly and invite my friends in to play there.

Considering the mega update is yet to hit heh.

Because Home itself will be your destination.

You know...

The LittleBigPlanet Pod is way more fun than the Home Apartment at this time.

I dearly hope that whoever is in charge of HOME realizes simple little facts like this.

Fuck you Sony and your broken ass betas.

I still didn't get an invite and I still didn't get my invite from fucking Qore. FUCK YOU!.

LittleBigPlanet would be totally functional without the POD.
The thing is the POD is awesome and everyone loves it. (So it stays!)

I keep thinking home is supposed to be the "POD" for all the other games out there but I keep wondering where all their development efforts are going?

Looks like it. 20 the closed BETA and 28 the open one... or some date like that.
I want home for one and only one reason : Uncharted room :D

The original Resistance clan always chats before playing, soon we can do it in Home, using special areas like Warhawks war room to discuss strategy then launch into the game all together, in the same in game lobby.

I think that there is a Resistance room too.

So why not go into the Resistance lobby in the actual game to chat before playing? When my friends and I are playing in LBP, we just go to one of ours pod in the game and chat about what level we are going to play.

I still don't see the point here why you need to go to home first. Why do you HAVE to use home to do this and not do it in game. Don't all multiplayer games (good ones at least) have a party system lobby that lets everyone chat before hand? I've never run into an issue where I couldn't do that in game.

LBP Pod is a home like interface isn't it? Its not home but it shares concepts.

They're doing the same thing as MS did with NXE. Let a few batches in at a time and keep shit stable. If you open the flood gates and the shit expodes, people are going to think the service is garbage. I'm sure everyone who signed up will be in soon.

Damn thought this was bumped because it was out. That party system looked pretty cool 2 years ago.

Good thing Microsoft implemented it in their dashboard out in 2 days.

Sure did. And it's pretty much the same thing, only better.

You can just go to the Resistance or LBP lobby and do what you said. But that requires you to have the Resistance game booted up and also prevents you from insta jumping into a game of LBP.

With Home lobby/apartment the idea is you can meet and join a game of Resistance, or LBP, or Motrostorm, or Warhawk without boooting into that game. So you can swap discs and play what you all want without waiting to boot into each one game.

So you meet in a neutral universal setting, then decide which game to play. Rather than log on and see that Joe is waiting in the R2 lobby and Mary is in LBP, and you dont know which to join.

I didnt get in yet, but if the Home apt. is as customizable and fun and easy as the LBP pod, then that's great, and exactly what Sony needs. Here goes hoping for the 28th.

A question for those with Home, how long does it take from hitting HOme on the XMB to being in your apartment? or in Home wherever you appear? 30 seconds? 1,2,5 minutes?

Way longer then it should.
