Home Integration for Uncharted & Resistance! 2D Uncharted Side Scroll Shooter!

So, wait a minute. I just thought about this. I've known all this new info about Home since the news broke; but, I'm only just now wondering how it's going t work.

So, do you think they will do something like this: When we enter the Uncharted HomeSpace, will it change our camera perspective into a sidescrolling view, give us guns, enable a jump funcion and add enemies; OR, will there just be an arcade machine we walk up to like in the current GameSpace? It will be interesting to see HOW they do this now that we know that their plans. HMMMMMMMMMMMM.

:lol Yea, I kinda went way out there with that first imagination, huh? :lol But it would be cool if such things were possible in Home.

oh it's possible. it'll just take longer to code and test. longer in real life = more money

Definitely arcade machine.

Of course, we shouldn't expecting they will give us own 2D level. It is more likely some few levels on the arcade machine. It is fine along they can build up the library on the machine rather only one with helicopters game.

To be honest I hope it's something more than that. Those arcade games are reeeealy simplistic, like the basic flash games, and they all seem to be preloaded there as you walk into the game room. They're probably like 1MB each (if that). I hope these gamespace centric games are something 50-100MB big that you have to download first, like you have to download whole home rooms when you first walk into them.

Leading me on? I was on the Dev Team from the beginning, chum. And I also love the way people still don't understand that this isn't being marketed toward the "core gamer".

Anyway, keep on raging against that machine, I'm sure its fun.

Hey, you guys are doing awesome work. :D

No doubt the uncharted mini-game is a arcade game..and those arcade games are going to be limited by the runtime environment. I wouldn't expect too much unless they're going to charge you to play it.

That kinda defeats the purpose though. If it were that big then you could just get it off the PS Store. Home games are meant to be very simplistic, and devs will likely get money off them only if players decide to buy an arcade cabinet for their apartment to beat the crowds.

Speaking of flash games, it would be kind of cool if they extended the arcade machines to support a flash runtime environment. Might be tricky, but if it could be done, a site like kongregate could have a space in Home with a selection of titles available to play.

edit - although thinking about it, any games like that would have to be made to fit the controller rather than rely on mouse control..

Isn't 50-100 mb pretty huge for a 2D sidescoller?

I'm expecting something pretty simple. A flash game basically.

Yeah, if it's free that's the only way it makes sense. And since those rooms will basically be advertisements for games, it will be free.

I haven't been one of the naysayers when it comes to Home. In fact, I think it's going to be huge, but it's going to take a while for it to really take off. Fantastic news and Sony has pulled a complete 180 from last year.

It would be cool to have a really badass 2D version of Uncharted, but I think it would just be too time consuming. I would rather ND work on a big game instead of taking the time to make an elaborate 2D version of the first Uncharted. As long as that big game isn't a new Jak and is the new Uncharted.

I always thought Home was going to be incredible but i never thought it would have this kind of game implementation. This is nuts awesome.

Whatever. When every PS3 game comes out supporting everything that makes Home so special, roll your stupid little eyes then. Until then you're nothing but a fool with some money and lame as fuck. I mean fuck, how long have they been leading your sorry ass along now? Going on a year and a half, isn't it?

GDC was in March last year, It's been less then a year since it was shown to the public which is far less time than most games.

By introducing a potential consumer to the 'universe' of the game? E.g. one might go into the Resistance space, listen to some 'lost' audio messages between characters in the game, see the artwork etc. and think "hmm, i like this game's style", or "hmm..i want to find out more" or whatever. I think you could certainly communicate far more about a game using a Home space, in subtle and enjoyable ways, than say you might in a magazine ad.

If, for example, Uncharted's (or Resistance's) space was a replica or simulation of an actual game level, imagine if within those confines, among user avatars, there were game asset "ghosts" running around simulating actual gameplay. The Transparent or monochromatic "characters", would go about their own business of killing each other, but moving 'through' users and sharing the populated space.

Sorta like an immersive 'holographic' trailer/demo.

Hybrids run through characters, pirates run through you... Users start saying "I feel as though someone just walked over my grave."

One thing I would consider if I was Sony would be to have a game store built into Home that sells and ships their full games. Retail would shit bricks, but it'd be pretty damn nice to be able to order or pre-order full PS3 games from inside the PS3 itself.

Well all they'd really need to do is just turn their SonyStyle online store into a Home store and it'd probably work. I don't know if it'd make retailers shit a brick unless Sony were to make sure that people who ordered through Home would get the games before the actual retailers got them.

A better question is how does some little mini-game or a stylized meeting room sell a fucking game? It really does seem like an overinvestment on making shit to lure someone to your spot in order to cram some ads into them before the wander off somewhere else. The fact that Sony itself is taking the lead on making these cool little places to be means that 3rd parties have to compete on a level of those standards or not bother with more than the minimum.

How a 30 sec TV spot or a one page ad in a VG magazine sells a game ?

Exactly.

Everyone, let's keep our expectations in check. It would be in the best interest of our own emotions. :lol

In fact, tell yourself that the game is going to be mediocre at best.

Nope. You'll be able to switch region anytime from within Home itself.

The servers are regionised but you can swap between them at will via PSP (temporary locked ability for current build but soon back again).

Is there any differences between the regions at all? Do they look the same?
