Home justified. Hands on with Uncharted Bar

So you want your PS3 to replace your PC? Or how about your PC replacing your PS3?

Not getting at you specifically, just this point seemed a little off.

I'd like the device in my entertainment center to replace the one that is not.

In this case my Playstation. Granted I have an iPod that I can hook up to my stereo, but fiddling with the iPod volume and stereo volume to get perfect balance is a nuisance. So I've just been dumping music onto my PS3 to playback through my surround sound system.

Similarly I have a VGA input on my TV, but my Mac doesn't have a native resolution to take advantage of my HDTV; so the image doesn't fill the screen. So I would prefer just being able to view videos via my PS3. Which is what I do now thanks to native Divx support, I no longer need Ubuntu and VLC on my PS3 to playback video. :)

So yes, I'd like the Playstation to be the set top box since it's already in my living room. :D

Good luck dude!

Do you think people like you are in the minority? Of the 4 PS3 owning people I know, one isn't online (at all) and the other 3 don't have there's set up to stream from their PCs. And none of them has any media on the PS3. Actually, apart from the trailers I've DL'ed I don't have any media on there either. Crazy.

Everyone will walk around it once or twice then realise they'd rather play games and never return

When are all the people in second life going to realize they'd rather be playing games? :lol

Heh heh... I am guessing the most frustrated people are the beta testers. They can't say a thing about what they experienced in Home.

I am pretty sure at this point that Home is here to stay. The question is what next. I'd like a Life channel for Home so that I can know the latest community happening in Home... just like how it keeps me posted about the world right now.

The rest is just relentless polish so that the game launching is snappy, slick and smooth.

I find it funny how people say stuff like "Why would I want to hang around and just talk when I could be playing games?" and then they spend all this time in GAF :P

Maybe they could bring GAF to home also.

I'm not streaming though. Those folks are in the minority, the hardcore technogeeks that figure that stuff out. I recently gave it a shot and it's neat, but not something I'd like to do all the time. Granted that's my own paranoia, I didn't monkey with the options of the program; but I have concerns about neighbors being able to access my data from my streaming machine, which is why I'd rather not stream. :D

I could be in the minority in that I enjoy the convenience of one device instead of several. I used to have a DVD player with Divx playback, but since purchasing a PS3 that has gone unused. I stopped using my CD player since I can toss a library of music on my hard disk.

Yeah, I reckon there are some people out there who don't enjoy convenience; but I'd like to think there are more folks out there who would want this. :)

Ahh, the benefits of a bigger HDD eh? The reason I haven't set up streaming is... well I don't want to have both machines on at the same time.

Take your point about convenience though. I should really get some of my music on there.

Cheers.

Shit, all dreadfully OT. Sorry folks.

EDIT: And TTOB, that's the best avatar you've trialed. The green one.

EDIT 2: Too late... :(

Does buying a router and installing a program mean you're a technogeek now?

Not to say you're wrong about the whole 'one box' thingy, I agree on that, but streaming is so easy these days.

Yes.

If people were as bright as you think they are, I'd be out of work. :P

I agree streaming is easy, but like I said - rudimentary networking and technology configuration is still inaccessible to a lot of people. Hell, most folks can't operate a damn computer without getting some bullshit spyware on it.

Did anyone else hear that there's some group on the beta who wear red shirts who go around blocking people from moving and shouting at them.

That's some lame shit, and if home is full of that it'll suck.
That was way back when. That can't happen anymore.

The Resistance and Warhawk ones make sense to me because they're multiplayer games and you can use it as a lobby to get together for a game, discuss tactics, or whatever. Seems a bit pointless to have one for a year-old single-player game. It looks cool and the mini-games are a nice idea, but nothing really beyond that.

Everyone's quick to jump on Roders5 but that's pretty much exactly what I'm likely to do with this implementation of Home.

Yeah. Finding a group of people in the R2 room who feel like doing coop on the hardest difficulty, or games of CTF (or trophy boosting the Warhawk Dropship Trophy which I still HAVEN'T gotten) are what excites me the most. I think the idea itself is fantastic for finding a group to form a pickup team with and playing with.

All the arcade cabinets are occupied :(

The top two doors have a keypad and say:

"Game is currently unavailable waiting for server"....Wonder what is inside?

People are saying the numbers have something to do with the artifacts. It appears there is some type of mini game to get into the doors.

Stupid question? I can't seem to find Sully's Bar - do I need to have Uncharted on this PS3? Where should I be looking otherwise? O_O?

Use PSP then select world map.

Hmm - I assumed that's how it would work; it's not there. I had to update to get in so it's the latest version. Wonder if it's absent due to my geographical location (NZ)?

BLOWS. :lol :lol :lol

You unlock the door on the right and you go into a tiny room the size of one of those room they put crazy people in with pillows on the walls and all there is is artifacts on shelves that you can only look at. That's it. There's NOTHING else to do in there. This is after downloading the room for like 10-15 minutes.

There's an arcade machine and three locked doors, so that's not accurate really.

Really? What for?
Wish I knew. I really have no clue at all. :(

n1n9tean said:
Sure. But, all I did was describe the size of the room. Lay off, papa. :lol
You did more then that :p And I'm just warning you for your own good. If you get blacklisted you wont' get into any more betas.

I've walked the line. I haven't describe much at all and pretty much stopped seeing as how they're policing it more now.

The arcade game may be cool. I don't know because it's always crowded with people waiting to play. One guy just said "I've been waiting here for 3 hours. Somebody get off so I can play!!!" and we all just laaaaaughed.

But, seriously, that room I mentioned was pretty disappointing and pointless, in my opinion. I think I can say that much.
