Okay, there were some new features revealed today for Home.

• Sony Ericsson phones will have a Home category in their XMB menu. For now you are able to take pictures with your mobile phone and these will get transported to your PS3 & Home. Basically it's live blogging as Phil called it. You can then add these pics to frames in your Home Space or whatnot.

• A ton of new scenery were shown from a Norwegian fjord location to a Beach House. The Central Lounge which was the previous main meeting arena in Home has been replaced by the Home Square.

• They also announced online profiles accessible from a online Home website which you can check out with any web browser. You can put images on there, keep updated info about yourself, live blogging, friendslist...etc.

• They announced the ability to launch any game from within Home. You can also launch into multiplayer games with a group of friends and this was demonstrated with MotorStorm.

• Also they showed a Ratchet & Clank costume. So it looks like you can wear that, not truly fictional characters but you can definitely game theme your Home avatar.

The Home open Beta will start this fall. Here's the video presentation:

I think the Home open beta starts sometime this month. I believe Phil meant the global launch of Home begins in the fall. Anybody know for sure? Man, I want a Home beta invite now!

So from there I'm assuming the screen fades to a motorstorm lobby room where all of your friends are waiting to setup/play a game?

I'm curious to know more about how that part works. Do you designate folks while in Home and then home launches directly to the particular game's lobby in a private room with the folks you've already designated? Can you join an online session that way as well?

Need more details of that functionality.

What type of phone was that? Ah yes... A Sony Ericsson phone!

* rolls eyes *

Looks shiny though, but does nothing for me (though I don't suppose I'm in the target demographic).

1 month beta? He worded it fall and yes, the actual application is still on track (Oct/Nov).

I thought it was that you met in a private space with your friends and when you join the folks in that room were the ones who would be in that game.

Well it didn't seem like he was entering motorstorm with the folks that were in that room he walked in to, but the screen faded so I didn't see what comes next.

Isn't the whole sony presentation suppose to be on PSN at some point?

he said it wasn't limited to private spaces. in fact, he used an example of going to a game space for a specific game, and meeting players there to challenge.

Did they show footage of the waterfall environment and the japanese gardens, or did they just mention them?

Haven't had time to watch the conference yet.

I was really glad to see that they decided to allow funky game specific costumes in public area (instead of just plain o logo shirts). Maybe too funky :lol

Dont' remember the waterfall one...but the japanese garden was shown in the conference. That was where he launched into Motorstorm.

Oh shit, I knew they were gonna start tying their phones into their network. I really want them to make the next PSP a gaming phone with a smart design. I love my Walkman phone. I got one of the last ones that still use Pro Duos for this exact reason. I might start a art gallery in my Home and display the pics I take each day, or something.

I wonder what they've got planned for the PSP now. I'd really like some better online integration of the PSP into this overall plan. PEACE.

Roll eyes all you want. SE makes fantastic phones.

i wonder, theres 2 weeks left of this month, will we get home open beta still this month, or has it been changed around?

Meet at private space

launch motorstorm online

lobby automatically created

This is EXACTLY what every online ps3 game needs. Excellent.

He actually described how it works in the new interview video there.
You flag a game, for example MotorStorm, and then people go up to you and when you have the group you want you all launch into the game.

It's sad that HOME has been ignored this E3. I'm going to sound like a huge shill here but I'm still really interested in what HOME has to offer. When all is said and done it should do a lot to make the PS3 a unique experience: Home locations of games like LBP & Uncharted; Virtual arcade room; 3D Trophy room with user videos and gamescores. Personally I'd love to just mess around with a virtual apartment and see what I can make of it.

From what it sounds like the private beta has been very limited, hopefully soon they'll open the doors and give everyone a vertical slice of what HOME really is.

What I'm *NOT* interested is walking around talking to random strangers. That seems like a big part of the private beta. (from what i've heard)

I said it in another thread but I don't think Home is hyped nearly enough for how significant it will be for many people.

On the other hand, I don't think it really needs that much pre-release hype because people will automatically start talking about it when it goes live. You will get permanent meetup times like NeoGAF Resistance tuesdays, drinks on Kittonwy..etc. I firmly believe this is Sony's biggest card and it's sneaking up on ya all.

I just checked the PSN store and it had the icon to downloa the Home Beta. I was able to download it and try it out. Did I get into the beta without getting an email? Is this the public beta?

i just got my invite last week. Did you get any email about the home beta?

Seems like they are adding people each week.

The beta still looks like what they showed at GDC. Its pretty boring in the beta since half the stuff isn't in.

Yeah, just got it. Just went to the store and there was the icon. Made a character real quick and checked out some of the areas.

I need a bar in my HOME. And a kegger.

HOME is getting more awesome by the day. Good to hear that they were listening to beta testers and came out with an extremely updated and newer look.

HOME is the application for everybody. You're not restricted to anything. Just hope we can get an official open beta sometime soon

I haven't signed into Home in a while. It'll be a blast once it's open to everyone. I know us GAFers are going to make heavy use of it.

Is there a beta forum for home on playstation underground? I tried getting into it last week and it wouldn't work for me.

Dont forget Kittonwy playing his Greatest Hits on his stereo.
