Best way to know when you're away from your PS3 is to try logging into the beta forum.

From the playstation.com boards, there are tons of HOME beta testers w/o access to the forums. =(

I was at the sony conference, in fact - the picture that they took for the Home-page, that's me front and center wearing the pacman shirt with my head turned.

I got in the HOME beta and didnt get an email for 3 weeks. keep checking it might be there eventually. Also, I have no beta tags in the forums.

Me either, but i did get the e-mail. I tried logging into the beta forums and it said that i wasn't in the beta, and it actually said "better luck next time". :lol

Keep walking..

It takes too long for the run to kick in. I'll have to copy some pictures over to my PS3 so I can put them in pictures frames... sucks though I didn't see a TV as one of the available items you can put in your home... so no loading up video yet?

Re: Home on a cell phone:

In an interview I did with Philip Rosenberg, I had asked him to elaborate on that -- what carriers would offer it, how the program would work, etc -- and he acted surprised by the whole thing. He then told me that what was shown was just an idea of what COULD be done with Home, not necessarily anything that's actually planned.

I haven't transcribed the interview yet, so I don't have the exact quotes, but he made it sound like there won't be a mobile Home interface.

Just a heads up, I JUST checked my store and the Home beta was there waiting for me. Pretty cool. I'm typing this from my PS3 too.

how exactly do you get an invite? did you need to sign up for anything or just be a part of PS Underground

the latter.

anyway, does someone want to share the beta with me in return for some PS Store downloads? I've got like...everything.

I dont think anyone would like doing that. You have to log in as the person who it was meant for in order to use it. Me and a friend tried it.

Very surprising addition to Home there with the phone pics. Imagine being on vacation and friends can visit your Homespace and see what you're up to, all from the comfort of your living room tv.

Tip to anyone in the beta and not able to access the beta boards and with no home beta test rank: What I did was message the forum admin, he didn't tell me the problem exactly but after some confirmation he switched me over manually. I did this about 3-4 weeks after being accepted.

I just want a David Reeves avatar who sputters interminably in a drunken stupor about the impending Sony victory over the known universe.

Then JollyCorner shows up screaming, "Fetch me wild beavers!"

I love the idea of Home, but would like some of these basic and new features to be acessible via the XMB under Home. Having to launch into Home to talk with friends, launch into a game, etc. should be able to be done either way.

well, you can talk to friends in the XMB...and obviously you can launch a game from XMB.

i assume you'll be able to have a voice chat with someone who is in Home even if you're not.

Yes it will. Sony has said that basic stuff in HOME like lauching into a game and talking to friends will be on the XMB.

Yeah, I suppose I just want to see the basics before anything else. Not being able to do anything during a chat gets quite annoying, or the XMB in-game. I know I'm beating the dead horse here, but it's quite pathetic that I have to.

On the subject of chat, I feel Sony should have their own bluetooth headset out before the launch of Home. I honestly believe it is critical for the success of Home's communication. No compatibility worries, made specifically for the console and a good market push. It can only result in a positive effect.

Well they do have one for Warhawk that will be sold in stores with the game...

I got into the warhawk beta (which I honestly didn`t really want), but didn`t get into the Home beta (which I really really wanted).

What a cruel hoax this beta invitation process is. :(

Yeah, the Jabra BT125. I don't know, maybe I'm too picky... but looking at XBL and part of it's success, Sony having their own headset and pushing it seems like the only way to go if the network is to evolve. Include it with the console, or separate. But make it and push it and for God's sake, never let there be an online game without voice. Already it is common place.

I'm in the beta (finally!) :D

Is it normal that I can't sign in with my other accounts on the same PS3? Does it mean, even if my friend download it into his PS3 with my account, he can't sign in with his screen name?

Home keeps an active log of authorized users. In other words, your friend is out of luck.

In the beta now. No jump button. Fail.

Some guy was on the mic in the gamespace blabbing on about Sony licensees and third parties. I was catching every few words because I kept going in and out of proximity. Didn't sound like he knew what he was talking about and I have no idea why he was holding court about it. Home is going to be bizarre.

that's hilarious. people will start arguing all over the place.

what could you possibly need a jump button for???

Every game, regardless of game or genre should have Ninja Gaiden style mobility.

Roll, jump, roll-jump, run along walls, wall flips, wall hikes, scale walls by flipping up them.

hell no. people would be jumping around in bowling lanes and on top of pool tables. characters need to stay grounded.

i thought it was mostly people in europe..

Well AFAIK, Home launched in Europe first, and in NA a lil bit later (2 weeks ?), but in Europe it was a very tiny and ultra select group *cough*ihateyouguys*cough* and I'm not sure there have been new invites for EU people.

Dont forget Kittonwy playing his Greatest Hits on his stereo.

I was hoping that they would talk more about this feature. I have a CD coming out in late Sept/early Oct, and I'd love to have a virtual release party over Home. Have people come over to my crib and check it out.

No jump makes sense. As far as the way it sounds running is implemented, I'm sure things will be tweaked upon over and over, as the years progress.

Web functionality sounds good. This could be something that replaces MySpace, Facebook, Nexopia, etc. People are literally hanging out over their PCs nowadays. With Home you could actually see your friends in a virtual manner, and interact with them as you would in real life. Scoff at me now...but in 5 years I can see this being bigger than most of us imagined...which is why I said MS should come with their own equivalent that can be used on both the PC and on the 360.

Re. game launching..

..I think that the demo at E3 was a bit of smoke and mirrors. I think they set it up to give you an idea of how it would work, but I don't t think they actually demoed it live. Reasons being, you can see him cycle through the icons in the game launching menu without actually selecting them, and then magically there's a countdown to launching motorstorm. And then he asks for a controller so he can play it..why would he need a different controller to play his game of Motorstorm if it was all happening live? Methinks motorstorm was set up to go on another machine, and they just transitioned the video feed to it, hence the controller swap.

But anyway..from what I can remember of the HD video of the conference, that game launching menu has things like "create game", "launch game", "view players list" etc. So I'm guessing you go to 'create game' first to select your game and determine players, perhaps use 'view players list' to see who is in (who has accepted the invite to join the game?), and then launch game to go directly in with the others on the players list. I have my doubts that this is going to work automagically with every game, but if it did, that'd be great.

Okay, there were some new features revealed today for Home.

ps3-home-logo.gif

• Sony Ericsson phones will have a Home category in their XMB menu. For now you are able to take pictures with your mobile phone and these will get transported to your PS3 & Home. Basically it's live blogging as Phil called it. You can then add these pics to frames in your Home Space or whatnot.

Home6.jpg

• A ton of new scenery were shown from a Norwegian fjord location to a Beach House. The Central Lounge which was the previous main meeting arena in Home has been replaced by the Home Square.

Home4.jpg

Home7.jpg

Home8.jpg

• They also announced online profiles accessible from a online Home website which you can check out with any web browser. You can put images on there, keep updated info about yourself, live blogging, friendslist...etc.

Home5.jpg

• They announced the ability to launch any game from within Home. You can also launch into multiplayer games with a group of friends and this was demonstrated with MotorStorm.

Home9.jpg

• Also they showed a Ratchet & Clank costume. So it looks like you can wear that, not truly fictional characters but you can definitely game theme your Home avatar.

The Home open Beta will start this fall. Here's the video presentation:

I cant wait to get a PS3 to play around in Home.

I think it's going to be a lot more fun than wandering around the Dashboard on the 360, that's for sure!
:lol

Either way, it's an incredibly cool way of randomly meeting people to play a game with.

All we need now is a list of what people are already playing and being able to jump in, a la XBOX 360.

I think the main reason they've not hyped up Home as much as they could have, or throw out a gazillion invites, is because it's really really limited so far.

Well, without game launching or media sharing - neither of which, i believe are in the beta yet - it's rather limited indeed. They're really core pieces of Home functionality.

One thing I wonder about game launching - do you need to be within physical proximity of others in order to invite them to join your game? If you're setting the game up via your in-home PSP, surely it would be rather simple to have invitees alerted regardless or where they are in Home, via their own PSPs.

Also, a small thing, but you can also see in the HD stream the mobile phone icon, where you can can 'call' friends. One of the bits of the roadmap for the beta included 'in-game phone calls'. That was slated for the end of June, IIRC, no idea if that is in there now or not.

To make the walking more bearable! And because I want to jump on people's furniture.

From the little bit I fooled around with last night, it seems that they've thought of this. When you're playing one of these games, you're basically in a protected instance to some extent. When it's your turn to bowl or shoot billiards, the play area is devoid of any distractions. But when you're waiting your turn, you can see the wider area and if anyone is walking around you'll see them but the person taking their turn at the moment won't.

So how does the picture thing on your mobile phone work exactly? I thought that the personal media in your HOME (pictures, shows, etc) was all streaming from your PS3 and if your PS3 is not on then you can't access your HOME apt. This phone photo thing makes it seem like the image will be stored on Sony's servers. This puts into question the content that will be allowed.

I'd be interested to know if people can join me in my apt and we can watch a full episode of something like Arrested Development that I've ripped onto my PS3 (or streaming from my PC via DNLA) in high quality (not HD but not youtube either). From the interviews it sounds like this should be possible but I'd be very happy if it will be done or better yet allowed at launch.

I'm interested in checking this out.
Made the warhawk beta... hopefully I will make the cut here too.

I've got to say though... My Home interest right now is a 6 out of 10 though.
Maybe once I check it out my interest will increase.

The latter should be completely possible from what they've divulged sofar.

But on the former, one other thing I noticed was that the picture he took with his mobile also showed up on the website as his latest photo. I wonder if they will moderate that or what the story with that is.
