Watched season 1... it really wasn't that good.

I don't know, the show just didn't "grab me" like I thought it was going to based on all the praise its gotten from media outlets. Am I missing something? Is season 2 off to a better start?

It's pretty much more of the same. If you didn't like the first season, I doubt the second would grab you any better.

If you didn't like season 1, you probably shouldn't continue

it is THAT good but not everyone has to like everything I guess. Maybe something is rubbing you the wrong way/not clicking.

anyway I'm pretty hyped for next episode, I remember reading someone say it's arguably the best in the series. No spoilers, just that was said.

Also the huge spoilers that I mentioned that leaked online for the end of this season, apparently showtime is hunting them down, so you know they are pissed about it.

Just wait for Masters of Sex starring Lizzy Caplan! Coming this spring, only on Showtime!

I think its a bit to early to completely judge season 2's start. Maybe after tomorrows episode. But early season 1 was definitely this shows strong point. It started to slip a liiiiitle bit late into season 1. But the first half was amazing, I think if it wasn't good television to you in early S1, there's probably not a good chance of you liking it going forward.

tonight:

2.03
State of Independence
synopsis:
The results of Carrie's Beirut mission lead her to believe that she'll be rejoining the CIA; and Brody discovers that the bomb maker is on a watch list and in imminent danger of being caught. Meanwhile, Jessica steps into the political spotlight.

Brody spends every second while in discussion with Nazir's operative bitching about being under the guy's influence. Proceeds to prevent the man's death instead of relishing it. Okay.

haha yeah. The whole scene had me face palming. Really hope the next ep it gets revealed he's a traitor because of that evidence, but highly doubt it.

It's clear Brody's allegiances currently lie with Nazir at the moment, he just disagrees with all the violent bullshit that Nazir seems to be pushing lately. Wouldn't be surprised if at some point this season he decides to say fuck off and does his own thing. But then I guess Nazir would try to kill him or something? I guess he'd have to die. Can't tell how it's going to play out. That's a good thing.

I think Brody's struggle is whether he is a traitor to America or does he just want revenge for those involved in Issa's death. There is a difference but I'm not sure right now whether Brody recognizes one.

What other stuff is there?

The flaw Brody's logic is that he is essentially angry about the civilians harmed by the US drone strike, especially as he had a personal connection with that boy.

But everything he is doing is just putting his fellow countrymen in danger from Nazir, including his own family.

Looks like they are gonna try to keep it under wraps in hopes Brody leads them to Abu Nazir??

IRL, he'd clearly be arrested on the spot.

Awesome episode. Claire Danes is hitting it out of the park every single week, just like the first season. I sense a Cranston-like Emmy run in her future.

What would you arrest him on? You can't prove he ever tried anything. All they've got is the video. He's in Congress too, he's not some nobody that the CIA could just disappear.

They have the video.

Which probably gives them enough probable cause to look into his phone records and correlate his text message with the instant Abu Nazir got tipped off.

From there? God knows what.

They definitely have enough to go on where they could hold him somewhere.

I actually thought this was one of the more disappointing episodes in a while. Not bad, just not as great as the rest. Mostly "filler" until the end I thought.

Next week looks awesome though. I can already see how this season is going to play out.

Carrie is going to think she is playing Brody while Brody is going to think that he is playing her, meanwhile there will actually be some actual feelings there. Nazir will plot something, CIA will be trying to stop it through Brody by following him and finding out his contact and all that. Then it will end with Brody having to do draw his line in the sand, whatever that is, and take control.

Don't think they can do another season of paranoid brody and CIA tracking him.

I'm surprised (in a good way) how quickly they've picked up the recording plot this season. I figured we'd have to wait until the end of the season for it to resurface. Now I'm extremely curious about where the rest of the season will go.

FUCKING YES!! I'm so glad the writers proved me wrong because I thought for sure Saul was going to lose that SD card on the trip back and I was going to completely give up. Now everyone is going to know and the rest is going to be extremely interesting.

Great episode. Had to quickly shut off the tv so I wouldn't get spoiled from those dumb previews though :(

Every series' episode preview needs to just be like a Mad Men preview.

Same, I was really scared they were going to do something lame with the SD card. Im still fearful even ("Straight to you before ANYONE else sees it" feels ripe for some bullshit to happen where Sols only proof is the crazy lady.), but this gives me more reason to believe they are going to tackle this straight on rather than some lame copout. Episode did feel a little filler-ish but thats fine.

I really enjoy watching this show most of the time, but I'm starting to feel like I don't know who it's portraying as being more incompetent, the US intelligence apparatus or the terrorists. I feel like it's a bit of a race to the bottom.

Seriously? Brody is the only asset they have in the DC area?
Seriously? I think Saul just committed treason.

They easily have enough to tap all his phones and reinstall the surveillance Carrie put in in the first season. Brody's not very careful. He's come a long way from tapping out codes on his thigh.

What? No.

Preview seemed all over the place.

If I had to guess Brody is gonna set it up so he gets caught with carrie again to solve the wife suspicion thing and on the plus side it harms carrie and her ties to the CIA cause here we go again crazy Carrie messing with Brody though he doesn't realize the CIA is on to him

Oh I've given on the show being seriously realistic, but at least it can be unrealistic and interesting. I don't think what Saul did goes into treason territory. it's most certainly not legal though, but I doubt he tells anyone he told her. Wouldn't treason be showing that classified info to someone from another government?

I'm so so satisfied Carrie finally knows and it was a face to face with Saul. I would've been super pissed if they let it drag on more (or if they killed off Saul like the preview suggested). Great ending and now I can't wait until next episode all eyes will be on Brody. I wonder what he's going to say to abu nazir and co., maybe they were going to kill the guy at the safe house anyway and Brody basically did the job for them so he won't get into trouble with them.

However I'm not really liking that he's so conflicted all the time and seems to be dragged along to do things. Brody was way more fun when he knew what he wanted to do and had no issues about it. I really like his daughter as a character but she fucked everything up. In the mean time hopefully their relationship doesn't become strained, I like seeing the daughter/father bond it's very genuine.

I'm glad they came right out and told Carrie (even if it took the entirety of a mostly pointless episode). I definitely agree that the "I came straight to you without telling anyone else" is quite suspect (and doesn't really fit with the shakedown that Saul got). They don't bother me, but I'm surprised people aren't as upset this week with all the contrived coincidences.

Anyways, I meant to post this last week but the text that Brody sent to Nazir said 'May 1'. I assume this is supposed to be a reference to the day Bin Laden was killed, right? My question was whether or not this ever happened in the Homeland timeline. Also, he was killed on May 2 local time. Or I could be completely off base and it refers to something entirely different

I'll back down on the term, especially since it has a pretty specific meaning in US law. But divulging state secrets is a pretty serious crime no matter where you are, and no matter who it's to. Most of the wikileaks stuff is less serious than this and espionage charges have been waved around because of it.

He showed classified intelligence to someone who has almost certainly lost all her clearance. If by some miracle it was legal, it was still boneheadedly stupid.

That's not treason though. Could possibly be an espionage charge though it would be difficult to convict considering that Carrie personally obtained the intel that she was later shown.

Brody's conversation with Jessica on the phone was fucking fantastic. :lol
