Claire Danes is un-fucking real. Probably one of the best female actresses alive/hyperbole.

I also feel Damien Lewis retroactively earned his Emmy in this episode.

Pretty sure I could have watched an entire episode of those two in the interrogation room. Amazing stuff.

I seriously have always loved the interaction between Carrie and Brody. The acting of both of them keeps me coming back to this show weekly even though I'm not particularly fond of the story in season 2, as I was for the first season.

Interrogation was amazing. Stupid Dana with the kid hitting someone better not be someone actually important, but then that would make the whole thing even more worthless. Someone in Brody's family will find out about all this. Also are they really giving him immunity from the people he's killed?

The person hit by the car looked liked
Roya Hammad.

I hate that Brody's going to be working with the CIA now. Seems like a huge cop out, which I suppose should be expected at this point.

This episode still wasn't as bad as the adventure in the woods, but I do have questions.

Where/how did Estes guy get all that intel about Brody's time in Iraq? Specifically, the part about Brody being Isa's teacher. How did he know any of that? All of that seemed to come out of nowhere. Like he just guessed and happened to be right. And then the shit about the bomb...? Again, it was as if he knew these things to be facts and was only mentioning them for confirmation. But then, when he doesn't get the answers he wants, he stabs Brody in the hand? That didn't line up at all with the way they had been building the character over the last few episodes. He's maintained his composure throughout. I thought that seemed out of place.

I also feel like I missed a scene or some kind of explanation on how Carrie is now back with the CIA. What is she, consulting? And now she's going to be handling Brody and maintaining an alibi for his cover? Ridiculous.

As you can see, I'm still very much on the fence with this season.

Amazing episode.

Two characters talking in a dimly lit interrogation room for twenty minutes sounds like a recipe for boredom - there was no music, no fancy camera tricks, just two people having a long ass conversation. And yet I was glued to my seat the entire time.

Claire Danes and Damien Lewis just earned a few more awards with this episode I bet.

That would be the dumbest thing in the history of dumb things that are incredibly fucking dumb.

Agreed.

I'm also not seeing it, honestly. Also, the clothing she's wearing doesn't seem like something Brody's contact would be wearing.

Brody and Carrie have the best chemistry on any TV show right now, it is incredible. On the same level as Don and Peggy from Mad Men, I can never get bored of seeing them together.

Great episode, I'm glad they mentioned the drones and it didn't just switch to america = good guys brown people = bad. But I just really loathe that people like the vice president can get away with doing what they do and the CIA doesn't go after them but anyone else and it's okay. It's so fucking ridiculous and I just hope by the end of this season there's some justice against these high ranking people who constantly kill civilians overseas.

Abu Nazir killing civilians in retaliation is not to be defended but if you're gonna go after him then go after your own people who kill civilians too. But the show is probably not going to address this which is the only annoying disappointing thing I can think of. And then they go on about Brody wanting to be a monster for getting back at war criminals but pre-emptively killing suspected terrorists (and civilians) is a-okay. None of it makes any sense, hypocrisy left and right.

Anyway I hope Brody and Carrie get back together again somehow. I don't care about the well being of Brody's family at this point I just enjoy Brody/Carrie relationship too much to want to see it go away.

Wow. This episode was just fucking unbelievable. Really, the only thing more incredible than the interrogation scenes (Carrie was obviously ridiculously great but "Life is full of disappointments" was hilarious too.) was the fact that the writers thought it would be a good idea to give Finn and Dana that awful awful awful storyline. I get what they're trying to do here (it's the lies that undo us...) but, goddamn, you couldn't shove that shit in another episode?

edit: also, was pleasantly surprised to find that the director of this episode also directed the Mad Men episode (this is a Mad Men spoiler) where
the guy's foot got run over by a lawnmower :lol.

Interrogation scene pretty much saved this show's future for me. For the first time I actually felt like Brody was a sympathetic pawn and not a vaudeville screw up.

As I said prior to this episode, the show would be nothing without the twisted Brody and Carrie relationship. You take Brody out and the show drops about 12 notches in level of interest generated.

Damien Lewis and Claire Danes hit it out of the park tonight. I was so glued to what was happening that after the interrogation was over I felt almost as emotionally exhausted as Brody. That being said the plot has been pretty predictable and weak this season (the whole Dana/Finn subplot was awful) but I've realized that the acting from the 2 leads is so fucking good that I could watch it for that alone.

Also, I found it kind of twisted that in the interrogation Carrie and Quinn essentially used the same method as Nazir by beating him down and then building him back up by showing him kindness. When he put his head on Carrie's hand in exhaustion it reminded me of the scenes with him and Nazir after he was tortured. Poor fucking guy.

Very true but the difference is that Carrie isn't bullshitting.

Loved the scene when Carrie was describing to Brody in great detail exactly how Nazir psychologically manipulated him and it was completely identical to what she herself was doing.

The great thing about that entire interrogation is that both Carrie and Brody were being totally genuine with each other and opening their hearts up, while simultaneously working a job even if subconsciously (in a repeat of the cabin stuff). I see both reverting to their old ways.

I think the notion that Brody will simply follow the CIA's lead to be overly simplistic and not what's ultimately in store. There's no way a guy who showed that much fervor is going to suddenly do a complete 180. Nazir got in there good and Brody has great hatred for the VP that isn't just going to evaporate; his loyalties will be heavily tested. I've thought since before this ep that he'd become a re-doubled agent - revert to spying on the U.S. govt (with the new helpful bonus of CIA access) while pretending to spy on Nazir as a double agent.

They're still manipulating him to get what they want. While Carrie may have been telling him the truth about herself and her feelings, on another level she was playing him to get what she wanted. I think it's funny that Carrie kept saying "wouldn't it be nice to stop lying" and then 5 minutes later is basically telling him "we want you to lie for us".

That being said, I'm definitely not saying what they did was as bad as Nazir, just that it's an interesting parallel. It's like Brody is caught between these 2 very different worlds with no way out. I think the title of the original Israeli version, Prisoners of War, would have been more fitting.

Off topic, this thread seems so slow compared to a lot of the other popular shows that air on Sunday.

People keep bringing up a mole.
When has said mole ever influenced anything outside of one moment in somewhere in the middle of season one?
I just don't think this supposed mole everyone is talking about is all that important at all.
If there even is one.

I am also really glad that son of the VP is getting in trouble. I never liked him.

Yes. It's obviously not Roya, guys.

As for the rest of the episode, wow that was good! The 15 minute scene of just Carrie v Brody was outstanding. I'm a bit disappointed they've put Brody back in the field as a triple agent, but I guess there was little else they could do at this stage. It still feels like his storyline should be largely wrapped up by the end of the season, but I wonder if they'll actually do that.

The acting was simply incredible in this episode by the two leads, but overall I thought it was a fairly weak episode after last week’s brilliant one.

And I knew it was coming, but I’m not sure I like the direction the show is going in. Also, I’m expecting Chris to being kidnapped or killed soon...

So how long until Brodie finds out about Dana and the veep's kid running over that woman and uses it against the VP to cause him resign/lose the election?

Other than that, great episode. I would be in favor of giving this show Dexter's time slot.

I think people are just assuming that since the one guy they captured in the first season somehow slit his wrists, that there must be an inside guy who was able to provide him with a razor. Hence the mole theory.

Regarding the pedestrian who got hit.. I think she was just a random Spanish woman. It'll be interesting to see how they cover it up. I'm sure there must have been some sort of traffic camera or CCTV that would have caught the accident and their parking nearby for an extended period of time would make it nearly impossible to not have had the license plate exposed. That bit played out like an 80s era PSA -- I had my hands on my head waiting for the terrible result.

So did Brody's son age by 4 years in the ~6-9 months since season 1 within the show's timeline.

I honestly didn't recognize him. Thought maybe they'd pulled a Bobby Draper and it was a new actor.. but nope. Same kid, just hit puberty and cut his hair I guess. He was always roughly Dana's age and now he looks closer to it I suppose.

I hope the cougar makes a special appearance.

The dude stabbing Brody reminded me Jack Bauer, when they stop him i felt like "don't stop him, let him torture the guy"

With so many awful female characters on TV these days, seeing Claire Danes give one of the best performances I have ever seen on the screen (small or big) was refreshing. Even more mindblowing to me was the fact Damian Lewis put in a equally stunning performance.

Is it not clear at this point that Brody was the guy that gave the prisoner the Razer blades? Carrie even proved that he was faking on the lie detector test.
