Hori Premium Screen Protector Nintendo Switch Flaw

Ergh. That's the one I ended up ordering after my case got delayed.

Getting anything out of GAME will be a pain and a half too.

Hori's installation method is far superior to what you can get with glass, sadly.

Which is? I mean just not having to deal with plastic screen protectors, bubbling etc. Makes installation of Tempered glass screen protectors much more appealing to me.

This is probably an issue with plastic screen protectors, although if it's getting that hot in the dock, that's concerning.

So I've sent some emails to Hori about this problem and hopefully they can say what's going on with the premium one.

Until I get that email I'll have to keep the one I currently have because I can't return it.

If this problem doesn't get fixed I guess I'll finally be making my switch to tempered glass.

I have the official Carrying Case and applying the screen protector was easy. No bubbles or anything. Haven't played Zelda yet so my system probably hasn't been very warm yet (did play a lot of 12 Switch) but other people in this thread have also said that they haven't found any issues with this screen protector.

Found out yesterday as it was shipping and couldnt cancel it but luckily amazon customer service itls refunding me for it for it being faulty. Now just waiting on the tempered glass screen protector to come so i can finally dock it.

I bought one yesterday and put it on immediately before all this came up.

Mine is bubbling at the lower and upper edges slightly (more the bottom than the top and more the right side than the left) by 1mm at most. Its not lifting but you can see it change colour under the protector when air gets under.

I have had nothing but a perfect experience with their 3DS screen protectors so this comes at quite a shock.

It wasn't cheap. EB charged me 25$ CAD +tx on launch day for this thing.

Lemme get this straight. Hori offers two protectors, Standard and Premium. This problem is in the more expensive, premium one. So the cheaper protector is better?

I have the cheaper Hori one, and have been using the Switch all day long, and it is still adhered perfectly.

tempered glass protector is the way to go, not these flimsy plastic ones

Shit I splurged on the more expensive one and this is what I get lol. What glass options are good? I didn't see and edge to edge one

I can say I've had the official nintendo one on mine since right after I got it and have had no problems with that one.

The amFilm one is good. Cheaper than the "premium" plastic crap, too.

Here's how it looks post-installation.

Looks and feels like it isn't even there.

Do you have a link where to buy it? Amazon is sold out of everything

looks awesome though. I placed an order on Amazon but would like to get it sooner as estimated shipping is March 10 -13

I'm using Illumishields on my Switch. No problems. $8 gets you a 3 pack.

I suspect the Hori Premiums are called premium because they're thicker than the regular ones, and as a result they are not allowing heat to dissipate as easily. So, it makes sense that thinner ones would be ok.

Nothing is perfect found a Reddit user whos switch made the glass protector lift at the bottom. hope this is the exception not the rule. I mean damn the switch doesnt get any hotter then many other devices. Is the heat too concentrated?

One big problem is we don't know the exact reason for this, if it's truly getting warm enough to soften/melt the adhesive to the point it's falling off there's a bigger problem. It seems more likely to me it's a sheering issue caused by the friction of the dock when sliding in and out. From the impressions of the Hori, it seems a lot of plastic protector especially are having that issue. (Softer, more friction across plastic which pulls harder when docking/undocking). We need someone with a heat map device map the Switch while docked. I just have a hard time believing it's heat that's the cause.

I have the crap Hori one, mine isnt peeling from anywhere at the bottom. it peels away from the top and starts to curl down. Which is surprising as the protector is fairl rigid when held horizontal

I am considering a USB C extension to avoid docking in the dock. Thinking of going with the Hori stand + that extension. Anyone know if this would work?

I want to try this but I don't know which cable to get. My hori stand is not going to be here anytime soon while amazon waits for more.

I got Illumishields as well, went on perfectly and feel awesome. The only problem is the initial batch was slightly too small and a little bit of the black border is exposed (Not that it bothered me), but Illumishield was awesome and automatically shipped me 3 more of the newer set as well before my original set even got here and said to keep both.

The amfilm problems on reddit are concerning. Could be people not waiting for it to settle after application but I wonder if heat will just eventually cause issues. Maybe this thing just can't handle a screen protector well. Its possible those affected may be doing something to increase heat to the unit like putting it in an enclosed space though. Luckily I have had no issues with scratches and the dock isn't bent.

Oh there's multiple reports? Can you link the other ones? I want to keep my thread updated so if it's being reported by a lot of people I'll want to share that.

Then you look at their Amazon page , and a lot of verified purchase users have been saying they have not noticed any problems with bubbling after docked for hours

Its only 3 including the guy who started the thread..but yeah.

I'm wondering if people just didn't let if settle long enough and its fucking up the adhesive.

Tried the normal hori protector and got some nasty bubbling. Tried to fix it to no avail.

Just said fuck it and bought the amfilm tempered glass one instead. I have the worst luck when it comes to plastic protectors.

I bought the $10 HORI protector but I suck at applying that shit. Always have. I got everything settled down after several minutes of micro cloth cleaning, and noticed one mote of dust right in the middle of the screen.

Picked at the corner, lifted it up just enough to wipe that spot with the cloth, set it back down, and there was dust everywhere. My wife in the next room heard me cuss a lot right before I ripped that shit up and threw it in the trash. I was so frustrated.

Just ordered that tempered glass one and I'm hoping application is easier. I'll definitely be taking it into a steamy bathroom when the time comes.

I got mine from Amazon, and it came much earlier than was estimated. I think I had the same estimated delivery date, but it came yesterday.

Mind if I steal your pic/impression for the other thread? I'm hoping to hear back from people who went with Ozrly and other tempered glass/Hori/standard protectors as well.
Sounds good to me!

Never wipe the back of the screen protector with anything. If particles get stuck to it use some clear shipping tape (not scotch tape as its not strong enough) roll it into a tupe shape and carefully press it on and pull it away. if its the whole thing use longer pieces of tape and repeat as necessary.

I'm using the cheap $10 version of the HORI and it's been great so far. And I've played around 16 hours of Zelda in docked mode since applying it.
