Horizon Zero Dawn sales (sell-through) Exceed 2.6 Million (2 weeks), DLC teased

Goes to show how pathetic that boycott from GameFAQs and KiA was.

60% of KiA probably purchased Horizon. They're a bunch of sick pathetic hypocrites who are still mad they were rejected by their objects of affection in high school. They'll never succeed in their boycotts.

Great news for a great game. Love Sony willing to let their studios invest in new projects and take risks. Will be all over an expansion and a sequel.

Also screw the haters over the years claiming female leads don't sell or how they don't want to "play as a woman". Keep it coming Sony with more Aloy, Kat, Ellie, Chloe etc :D

I mean I think they have lots of high peaks, and lots of experiments that are decent but aren't quite home runs. In a way, this is how Sony differentiates itself from competitors first party.

They are far more experimental with new IPs and genres, and take shots at types of games Nintendo would never try or Microsoft has given up investing in. Nintendo has far more consistency of quality and greater highs, but rely too often on established IPs. Microsoft however is currently in rebuilding mode hopefully, 'cause Gears, Forza and Halo with the odd game from RARE every handful of years.

Rebuilding mode?

They closed lionhead and cancelled scalebound, my 2 most anticipated XBox 1 games

With the sales numbers of Witcher 3, Skyrim (including remaster which was hit by itself) and now horizon I would think a good single player RPG true Fable sequel would have been a lock

It is by far their best game, and I have really enjoyed what I have played so far. I would hope to see some DLC that is missions rather than cosmetic.

Only sad part I see from this is, no more Killzone. I really liked Horizon, but would love to see Killzone come back to its roots. Mostly now with everything they have learned from Horizon.

Female protagonist, women and minorities in prominent roles and other dumb reasons. Basically just pure hate

I don't know why I keep getting surprised about it. Just can't understand the pure hatred some people have inside even when they keep showing it.

Oh well, their loss.

Being diplomatic, but I don't think it's too outrageous to think this is a rebuilding point if they intend to stay in consoles. Scorpio is going to come out, they can maybe fund certain types of games and use the system as a boost for better things.

I'm not denying they are comparatively in a pickle. Not a good look right now.

Hot damn. Great numbers, well deserved.

What's with all the people saying "but GAF predicted it would bomb!" when I can't remember a game that had a warmer reception every time it was previewed? Was there an incident I missed? Is that why GG doesn't post here anymore?

Regardless—stay winning, Netherlands!

Fable should have gone in the direction of a more RPG focused Zelda, IMO. That was the nice area they carved out with Fable 2, and they just never capitalized on it.

its impressive how many potential systemsellers Sony has in Development right now.
If everything goes right they could have 7-9 Huge Franchises/IPs by the End of this Gen (TLOU, UC, GT, Horizon ZD, God of War, Spiderman, Death Stranding, Days Gone, Sucker Punch New IP)

I was kidding, obviously, but I totally agree with you here. I think it was Shu who said that the way their pipeline is set, they don't need most of their games to be home runs, anyways, and it's a good balance because it allows them to risk. By going experimental, they push the medium forward, they create new gameplay experiences that can then be capitalized on.

The Last Guardian might have "flopped", but you can be sure that the kind of companion AI experience they delivered will certainly influence and guide many other devs, for instance.

They showed a video with towers

There isn't a company on this planet which wouldn't rely on Zelda, Mario and Pokemon

You have got to be f'ing kidding me!

Oh well. As for me, I think Horizon could be my favorite of all time. I knew it was going to be good, but I did not expect it to be that good. I honestly thought I was getting burnt out on video games as I rarely seemed to finish one, and I spend more time talking about them than playing them. HZD has rekindled my childlike wonder and excitement. Congrats!!!

I wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone with a PS4 or interested in buying one. It really feels like an open world game that took majority of the good things from other open world games with it's own unique flavor.

I liked how you picked the best selling WRPG of all time, the best selling WRPG this gen, and the best first party new IP this gen to prove your point. Yet completely ignored all the other less than stellar performing games as well as what we had seen of Scalebound and Fable up to the point they were cancelled. MS have a long, long way to go but those two games were not going to save the day for them.

There was a "predict the biggest flop of 2017" thread with Horizon being a pretty popular choice so now people are serving up crow.

Someone would like post that thread,on the bets of which would be the biggest disappointments of the year, I would like to laugh a bit of all the 6/10 posts that putted Horizon and I hope that Mass Effect Andromeda makes me laugh of others

Whatever causes them to keep doing it is irrelevant to the point. I was merely explaining the different priorities of the major three. As a gamer, I don't care about their bottom line, but only how their various outputs impact the type of games I get to play.

I honestly thought that there was something wrong with me, that I fell out of love with video games.

Nope, turns out I was just insufferably bored with the current state of the industry and sequels and all I needed was this imaginative world to rekindle my love.

GG did a phenomenal job. They really should be proud.

There were posts across the internet that surmised that the story of Horizon painted white males in a bad light, while elevating minorities and females and in many cases holding them sacred. I'm not sure at what point into the game these observations were made (at least one was very early on), but having played the game I would say that it is at best an oversimplification spun to extremes.

There are areas in the game that are matriarchal and more ethnically varied, while others are patriarchal. Aloy reacts to these areas of the game differently, but she doesn't really value one over the other. The story explains all of this throughout the game, and the overall presentation is tightly written. Guerrilla Games created a world with many different kinds of characters and cultures, and while it may seem preachy at times, it doesn't feel like it was done haphazardly. Everything was designed to tell this story - one that explores spiritual faith, the benefits and hazards of scientific advancement, and the ambiguous morality of the human condition - and I think it does it well. And I say this as someone who would have been turned off of the game had it not.

Horizon is one of the few games I've played that feels like it has something to say.
