Horizon: Zero Dawn tips?

I got Horizon over Christmas and I am really enjoying it.

I'm at the last level entrance and was wondering if there is anything I should do first.

I have done:
most of the flowers
The cauldrons
Found 3 of the power cells

I haven't done:
Visit even settlement
The dlc (now or after the final battle?)
The collectables

Things I have heard of but have no idea about:
Gold weapons? Do these actually exist? I heard they are only marginally better.

I'm sure I'm missing a fair bit but if you have some experience I'd appreciate it. I'm not looking for a guide, just some general tips and nudges in the right direction.

Im sure it's old news to everyone else but I found an infinite fast travel pack in Meridian you can buy. Pretty handy.
 
first Enjoy the game don't rush it
second absolutely for me find all the power cells and get that ancient sexy armor , the DLC I would finish the game first then play it

Did you get the armor tht makes the whole game a piece of cake? It's godly. Bro you are making me want to replay it. The epitome imo of how an open world should be structured, beautiful, well populated and enough npcs and enemies it doest feel dead. I enjoyed it so much.

Get the DLC. Bows from DLC are the best of the entire game. Find all the power cell as well.

My tip is use both fire or ice arrows. Fire make the machines burn and they reset the attack behavior because of the burn animation. Frozen arrows until they full frozen will do a huge amount of damage.

Use fire arrows on the green fuel for make the machines explode. Use frozen arrows or piercing arrows for destroy machine long range weapons.

After you beat the final boss the game kicks you back to before it, so you can finish the game then do whatever you want after. The last section of the game isn't brutally hard or anything.
 
this game is like : so this is story mission ok lets try get there, and then on the way you find plenty stuff to do on side and you keep doing those then you find some cool places and such...then after long long time you remember what was main mission lol. thats how i played it

The DLC has a nominal starting level of... 30, I think? It's been a while. But at any rate, especially if you're playing on harder difficulties, it can be a challenge. Level 40+ or at least 35 would be more realistic in my opinion. Narrative-wise there apparently are some hooks into the main story, but as they can be ignored as well they're not that important - I'd recommend after the final battle. It's still a separate plot and setting, cut out from the rest of the game.

Oh and you've probably figured this out by now, but just in case: how long you draw your bow only affects accuracy, not damage dealt. So in close quarters, just keep spamming the bow away with minimal tension. And if you haven't figured out any use for the "harvest arrows", in combat they're pretty much useless. But after combat you can fire them at downed machines and scrap much more components out of them.

Is it that easy? I plan to start playing this month also. I would like a really chill experience though, so I'm not sure if Ultra Hard would be the best first go. Really looking forward to it though, I recently upgraded to a PS4 Pro. Heard it's gorgeous on the Pro.
 
People, play on ultra hard, i'm fucking serious.

Aloy become absurdly overpowered in the game, you can literally destroy trex with 50 wiretraps even before they touch you.

At least on ultra hard the resorurces for making the best ammunition cost a lot so you can't abuse them.

Also at ultra hard hitting the weak spot on enemies with precision or with the right element became more important and that add more brain work during combat.

Git gud and don't be pussies.

Obviuosly ultra hard is not for people who search a chill experience.

But i'm not a great player by a long shot and very hard become a cakewalk where you upgrade aloy a little and pick the right weapons.

If you like challenge, ultra hard is the only right way.

I finished the game on ultra hard and the only thing that I can say to you .. just do it unless this the first time then choose another difficulty but don't choose normal
with the right weapons ( finishing the trials or the training ) I believe you can play Ultra hard but over all its a great experience

Between niping and setting off a chain reaction of awesomeness by hacking some of the dinos, I would sometimes lose complete track of whatever quest I was on.

Tht was me lol and taking share button pics every few minutes. Game is gorgeous and well optimized with no issues. Guerilla are one of the best in the industry and it shows.
 
The camera mode is great, don't forget to check that out.

Also the DLC is definitely worth playing, but after you beat the base game.

The DLC is meant to be played after the main story has ended ideally. But, sounds like you've got a fair bit still to do.
 
I stopped playing after I got full sun or whatever on the trials. I was level....40? I think. then I got bored and was underwhelmed by the rewards. I would say maybe don't go into the trials thinking you're gonna get the most out of it. Focus on side quests and story progression.

this armour is too OP for everything under ultra hard tbh.

they are not trash...

i always switch the stealth one, the melee and the ranged one (all with high level power ups)

I thought this armor was over-rated... the stealth armor is way more useful 99% of the time when you are trekking and dont have to worry about random low level enemies bothering you. The OP armor is annoying as hell when you are getting aggro-ed by a flock of flying dinos from a mile away while you are trying to harvest something else.

  • The only thing to make sure you don't miss IMO is the Power Cells to get the Best armour. It's way to good to pass it up. It's a game changer!
  • The other armours remain useful, but only if you focus them on their dedicated roles (stealth, melee, ect...)
  • Doing the hunt challenges also unlocks the best weapons back in the capital. For each challenge you'll get to choose one of them.
  • Your inventory will soon clutter. Make sure you sell the unimportant stuff, or learn the trait to salvage them into shards.
  • Don't forget to kill small critters on your way. The rare items they drop are very important for certain upgrade recipes (mostly bags).
  • In the capital they sell an infinite traveling kit. You'll have to collect the right materials to buy it though, and that involves killing lots of critters.
  • Don't forget that you also have traditional potions in your items. Once you get the infinite traveling kit and you have no need to make normal ones, you don't have much other uses for all that meat, and health plants can be often rare.
  • The expansion is hard, so doing it close to the end game helps.
  • Finishing the final mission will allow you to create a save just before it, so even if you finish the game, you can come back in time to do the expansion later.
  • Most side quests make an appearance in the final mission to help you! They are not as independent as they look.
  • The DLC weapons and armour appear inferior to the best you'll get on the main game, but they have unique stats and mechanics to still be useful on the DLC.

You don't get. Think in that way: Why you equip the entire set at once? Instead of put chest, gloves, boots... All separed?
Get it? This should made a full customize set instead of forced entire parts. This probably could make the player more tempt to use instead of the stell armor.

Even if you use differents sets don't prove the basic armors are good. If you played the DLC, they made tons of different armor plus towers to force you to change.
Even with towers as so I get the cell armor I used for life. Most do.

on ultra hard, the cell armour is semi-useless, if i remember well the melee and ranged armour offer more protection and the stealth armor is self-explanatory.

but yeah for the sequel i'm ok with a more robust rpg part with different part of the armour like the witcher.

oh yeah i love horizon too, i was just saying that being distracted every 30 sec is a prerogative of open world games.
you don't get distracted so frequently from your objective in games like cod or uncharted for example.
 
This is one of the few games I really enjoyed maxing out all the upgrades. I enjoyed just hunting bigger animals and taking out their specific weak parts.

The only suggestion I would personally have is avoid putting any points into the mount, I found it to be utterly worthless when you can fast travel anywhere you get to.
 
You said you hadn't visited every settlement. I'm not sure which ones you skipped, but many of them have side quests, if you want to level up further. Unlike many RPGs, most of the upgrades in Horizon make a big difference in gameplay. And most of the sidequests in the game are enjoyable. You probably hit most of them during the main quest, but I think there are a couple you can miss.

I wouldn't worry about the coffee mug collectibles or all the text and recorded messages. I did, however, enjoy the Vantage and Banuk figure misc. quests. Both of them had interesting stories attached and took you to some nice vistas. I liked the Metal Flowers as well. (/true) Nice touch. The game has beauty that others don't. None of that progresses your gameplay, but it's a nice little add-on experience. Horizon is the only game where I ever bothered with any of the collectibles.

Just beat it, I really liked it. I was really worried it was some kind of stealth game but it handled it just right. I think I missed a few scenes though judging from the dialogue. Wonder where they go for 2, assuming there is one

The "godlike"armor got nerfed to oblivion but its still pretty good for taking one hit before getting one shot in the Frozen Wilds in Ultra hard

Do it. One of the best games of the generation. Honestly, it's in the top five games I've ever played.
