Horizon: Zero Dawn tips?

People, play on ultra hard, i'm fucking serious.

Aloy become absurdly overpowered in the game, you can literally destroy trex with 50 wiretraps even before they touch you.

At least on ultra hard the resorurces for making the best ammunition cost a lot so you can't abuse them.

Also at ultra hard hitting the weak spot on enemies with precision or with the right element became more important and that add more brain work during combat.

Git gud and don't be pussies.
Yes Drill Sergeant !!!

enjoy the upgrades and crafting and try not to look into guides unless you are searching for specific items.

It is 1 of the rare master piece game that made me felt its next gen years ago and one that i truely enjoyed in game crafting where the crated items returns are worthy.

I am 2 skill points shy of unlocking everything... did the hunters, the expansion, all the companions... What am I missing? Do I need to do the cups and vantage points for them?

Even my first playthrough on the hardest difficulty was too easy in the end.
Once you know your enemies and Aloys movement it has not much of a challenge.
So, play on the hardest difficulty setting.

I think you can go sneak into the DLC area without doing much of the main storyline. You can grab some uber resources there to make DLC weapons.

I didn't find the game that hard. Some of the DLC enemies are annoying.

I thought this armor was over-rated... the stealth armor is way more useful 99% of the time when you are trekking and dont have to worry about random low level enemies bothering you. The OP armor is annoying as hell when you are getting aggro-ed by a flock of flying dinos from a mile away while you are trying to harvest something else.

The power armour trivialises the game and is basically easy mode.

Did you hit all the settlements? Check your map and look for unexplored cities/settlements. There can be additional quests there.

Did you complete all the hunting trials? (You say "did the hunters," but I'm not sure what that means)

I'm assuming you did all the Cauldrons and Bandit Camps.

The cup/collectibles don't give skill points. I don't think the Vantage points do, either, although they'll give you XP of course.

Otherwise, maybe you just have to do more combat and get more XP. I remember topping out the skill tree well before finishing the game, because I never used fast travel and walked everywhere. That meant I did a lot of fighting.

Thanks.

I meant the hunters lodge, got all the weapons there. I'll go look for more settlement s tonight. I thought I had them all now.

Did all the bandit camps, I'm level 60, cauldrons done.

Guess I'll do some walking around.

My #1 tip for Horizon is always to get the unlimited fast travel kit as early as possible. It makes getting around so much easier.

My #2 tip is to avoid the northern area on the right in zone 4 of this map until the story takes you there. You can go there at any time, but the coolest part of this area is tied to a story beat. It's a bit clumsy that you can go there early, and it ruined the impact of that particular mission for me.

  • The DLC weapons and armour appear inferior to the best you'll get on the main game, but they have unique stats and mechanics to still be useful on the DLC.
This is definitely not true. Most of the DLC weapons and armors are vastly superior compared to the main game ones.

I would easily play most of the game, taking on the biggest of monsters wearing only the Shield-Weaver once I get it. It's Shield is Fantastic for most combat scenarios, even without the mods.
The Banuk-Werak's Regeneration doesn't hold a candle in combat compared to the Shield weaver, but it's ideal for low lvl exploring and herb preserving, therefore it's great for areas with low density of healing herbs and long battles.

You're right about the Shield-Weaver but I heard it got nerfed by the time I got to use it. Anyway, I used those exactly how you explained them along with the stealth ones once I'm full health and trying not to engage enemy NPC.

Shield don't get nerfed as far I know. The DLC put towers that disable the shield-weaver for a period of time.

Even with that, the shield is vast superior than any other armor no matter what.

As I previous posted, this ideia of full body armor don't suit HZD much. If every piece of the set was individual, like headger, gloves, boots, etc... Probably would beat the shield weaver easily.

Got the platinum las night, really enjoyed it.

Quick tip for others, you can redo the last mission and get additional skill points should you need them.

Did that for my platinum last night. Now to move on to Detroit, then bioshock collection, then Gow.

Last mission on the main game or DLC?
