Hotline Miami 2 |OT| Right Number

Ship level is awesome, cmon guys.....

I looooooove this game. I like that the changes basically make it compliment the first game perfectly, rather than try to make it obselete. The first is mostly straightforward arcadey fun. This builds on the foundation with a more direct story, new mechanics, and benefits/restrictions based on different characters.

Absolutely awesome. I would generally play the first game melee as much as possible but having a lot of fun with guns. The new assault rifle sound effect is awesome. The soundtrack is god tier, as expected. Gaaaaah so good

END OF ACT 4 SPOILERS

OH GODDAMN. I did NOT expect that. They were starting to lose my interest with the long levels and frustrating encounters, but that just got me good. I'm all in again.

I'm getting massive bugs on chapter 5. Enemies just stand there spinning around part way through the level and doors suddenly don't open.

So what's with the sound track? I pre ordered the special edition and noticed that it says that you don't get the ost. Went looking in my game files for the remix tracks and noticed that I have the soudn track in both flac and mp3. Is this a mistake?

I was really hyped when I heard In the Face of Evil. It didn't get to the best part, but it's an awesome song regardless. The Street Fever remix is even better.

18 levels in, the soundtrack and presentation is amazing, but there's so many poor design choices I don't even know where to begin. There's tons of problems with the camera and look function compared to the original, many levels are way too wide open with no way to reliably plan your actions, enemy placement is so dense you're practically forced to abuse the AI and camp. There's several places where your character can just flat out walk off camera. The foliage can totally obscure your character. I'm finding that many times when I beat a section I feel like it came down to getting good RNG in terms of enemy movement rather than pulling off a skillful run. The level I'm currently stuck on (second Maniac flashback with the darkened apartment first floor) is just flat out awful in terms of design. I honestly don't know what they were thinking for some parts.

I almost feel like I'm playing a 2D version of Dark Souls 2.

What's up with this game. I'm on level 2 and it already feels intensely poorly designed, like a poor man's version of the first game.

I'm feeling the same way... And I'm on scene 16. Just hoards and hoards of enemies, often with almost no strategy/ reflexes required to take them out, just luring them around corners. It feels very unfocused. I have no fucking clue what the connection is between the X number of characters in the story

I like that the characters all play differently but the levels themselves are super disappointing. I also got a 22x combo and the trophy didn't pop..

^Didn't see your post but yeah I totally agree.

What was the purpose of the optional rape scene in the prologue?

PC Gamer had a well put quote about it:

When it tries to be more than that, it stumbles. The first decision you're faced with is the choice to enable or disable scenes of sexual violence: then, in the prologue, there's a suggested rape by your character that turns out to be a scene from a video nasty (or does it, and so on). Sexual violence does not occur again after that point, and its inclusion adds nothing, says nothing, and plays no role in the overall plot. It's artless and alienating, and giving the player the choice to switch it off suggests a lack of confidence in the entire idea. If it's unnecessary enough that it can be removed without consequence, why include it?

Really just put a bad taste in my mouth from the get-go.

Protip: 'Baiting' seems to be the weapon of choice here. Too many enemies with guns, make sure to bait em out to your locale before attempting heroics. This goes for most levels.

I am still enjoying the game but that flashback mission seemed wonky like I could control the character properly and the aiming seemed off. Didn't really care for that mission overall and seems like the weaker part of the game, we shall see.

I'm in scene
10 or 11
and there's this fat dude in the
sewers
that I can't kill with a knife. Is my only choice to start the level over and bring a gun to this area?

You don't need to bring a gun to the area. IIRC you don't trigger him if you go one way and one of the guards has a gun you need to beat him.

Hmm, I'm not sure if we're talking about the same section. I'm currently stuck on the first stage where you start of walking to the right into the first floor of an apartment. There's 2-3 melee thugs then a gunman and one of the black guys, both of whom aggro about 2 feet away from the entrance. There's literally nowhere to go without getting blown up and the only way to kill the fat guy is with the gun from the guy who spawns right next to him.

Man, I'm like on Act 3 and I'm on the Hawaii level and I'm so lost in terms of what the heck is going on with the story. The game is still super addictive and fun though

Currently up to scene 14 I think?
the second Hawaii level
and I have to echo the sentiments that this one feels much harder, if only because so many enemies have guns. I rarely used guns in the first game but here they're all I feel safe using.

Anyone else try the mouse+keyboard scheme? The mouse aiming is really slugish compared to the original. I assume it's a bug. I hope it's a bug!

Yeah this seems to be the best strategy I've found after 3 levels. Especially the second floor of level 3. You can hide in a room and aggro the gunmen to you so you can melee them quick.

I think that's because it's a movie about your killing and the director believe that Jacket was well a rapist, since he's a mass murderer.

Anyone else playing this on PC thrown off by the way the mouse behaves? its nothing like number 1.

And that camera shift when the view button is used,, really throws you off lol

I've gotten a similar bug where enemies get stuck, and flash and spin around in doorways, particularly dogs or with masses of goons.

Having a blast so far overall though.

Some particular quirks I think I've noticed:
  • It really feels like enemy reactions are at least few milliseconds quicker than before, and most PCs feel a bit more weighty than HM 1. Some round-about corner kills I would have been able to accomplish in 1 I can usually no longer pull off. And I don't think it's the range of melee weapons that's making the difference.
  • Along with the slight weight tweak, it appears you're able to survive a bullet grazing you more often than before, effectively meaning you're, like, 0.1% more durable.
  • This has already been covered, but let me reiterate and emphasize: there's a metric fuckton more enemies and levels are totally a whole a-lot-a-lot larger.
  • Decapitated heads roll around on the floor and you can even kick 'em! Yay!
Deathwish just took me 53 minutes to complete........holy shit

Already got my Karma trophy haha
Fifty...one minutes, bee-yotch!

But seriously though,
that level before on the pier went on and on and on
, I couldn't believe it, but I believed it. Half my mouse hand literally went numb and started throbbing halfway through.

The hyperbole has begun in some posts I see, complete with references to the already mindless hyperbole-infested dialogue surrounding Dark Souls 2 (hey, maybe it was the Dennaton B-team guys that made this game).

What a joke.

Still hate dogs.

My only real complaint so far is the change to shift aim. I liked it the way it was in the first one, so the change seems unnecessary.

Haha, it was bound to happen. There's definitely some issues to mention in the game, but the recurring theme(much like DS1 vs. DS2) is "1st game great. 2nd game not 1st game and here are the reasons why. 2nd game bad."

I'm buying this game before I head to bed in 10 minutes.

Call it: PSVita or PC?

Dat OLED or dat keyboard + mouse?

The mouse feels so good in this game for me, the first game had loads of acceleration or something and I hated it.

I feel the same way. i thought it was just me and I was playing sloppy from being out of practice. Played through the first act and had a fun time despite that though.

Yup, this is hotline Miami alright. Soundtrack is amazing.

Is there a way to buy it digital?
Steam seems to be the only way, for US$14.99.

I was looking for the first games OST today as well, and it's still Steam-only for purchase which is annoying as hell. Why not put them on iTunes?!

Just got to Scene 22. I'm really liking the game, but it feels like the level design in HM1 is far superior. There's just too many enemies with guns and too much space to cover. It feels like I have to use bait and kill tactics to survive every level, because running and gunning like I used to in HM1 is not an option.

I find that mouse acceleration is useful for games with pointer controls in the same way that it helps the mouse pointer in Windows.

I installed both games and it's a night and day difference. I had to switch to a controller for the sequel.

Screen resolution may be important here. I'm running at 2560x1600.
