Hotline Miami 2 |OT| Right Number

Screw playing on hard, I found the base game difficult enough. You guys are suckers for punishment lol
I thought I was good at these games. Hard is making that a difficult claim to back up lol
Hotline Miami 2 A+(Rank S) | 12 Death Wish: https://youtu.be/fnvh6mEOLDk

Someone uploaded this really clean S-rank run of Scene 12. Good inspiration for those of you who are just getting into the game and feel like you can't "flow" as well as you could in HM1.

Once you know a level's layout, you can be much more reckless.
Not sure whether to laugh or cry at how simple the level seems now that I've lost a few hairs with the Hard version.

So the detective is he
the Miami mutilator?
The army guys are they
the group of 4 masked copy cats?
Scareface looking drug boss did he
murder the president and russian president at the end?

Any interesting tidbits I missed?

Yes.
Well, it depends. The Fans were in the army, but not in beard's elite group.
No. He killed the fans and walked off the roof of the building. The general of the United States, former colonel of the army during the Hawaiian guerrilla war and founder of 50Blessings, has the president and Russian president killed.

Yes
The Fans are seen in the war, but the squad itself is made up of Jacket, Beard, and two other guys that are unimportant
The presidents were murdered by the army commander, who is the leader of 50 Blessings. The drug boss kills the fans and then falls off the roof and kills himself.

Wait, what? The Fans were in the army?

They're in the intro to Ambush, chillin out at the bar
Oh shit. Did not notice that one. That's very interesting. Looking at it now.

Yeah, I really dig most of the little details, but I dunno if I like that one. Seems a little too coincidental for my taste, if that's truly meant to be them. It's like Peter Parker's family being a bunch of secret agents or April's dad being responsible for the new TMNT's ooze. I think there's a sweet spot you gotta hit when you're tying together a sprawling, overarching, multi-perspective narrative. And personally, I think that goes overboard a tad.
The other mindblower is that
The cover art of the game is San Fran getting nuked and the vinyl art is the Son vs the Fans
Yeah, knew that bit. It's totally rad.

Well it explains why they're so
capable of murdering hundreds of people with the experience that they got in the war, much like Jacket.

Christ, I'm having a really difficult time with Death Wish on Hard. Up to the second floor and there's glass everywhere and at least 20 gun toting enemies. This damn Zebra mask is pretty much useless here.

I just beat it myself on hard. Zebra's floor is easily the hardest of the bunch. I ended up baiting and killing literally half the guys on the floor before I even moved out of the first hallway. On normal I went through the big conference looking room, on hard I found it easier to go down the long hallway near the start after blind firing to get the two guys in the windows with guns at the end of the hallway. You've probably already beaten it by now but maybe it'll help someone else :p

I personally liked the idea of
them just being a gang of psycho teenage fans of Jacket, feels more 'realistic' and fitting with the way they hang, talk and behave in game. Constantly shit talking eachother and whining about being bored and wanting some 'action' etc.

Oh well.

Oh yeah, for sure, it's definitely supportive in like an explanatory way, but still, like I talked about earlier in the thread,
I prefered HM 1's implication that Jacket was an expendable, untrained shock trooper whose killing ability originated from apathy, psychosis, and cocaine-fueled rage (it's why there was coke in his apartment and why he held Uzis gangsta-style, man). And to a lesser extent, I feel the same about the Fans. To me, someone who manages to become a badass-kung-fu-killer simply because they're psycho is way scarier and more interesting literarily than the worn out trope of traumatized spec ops vets fighting another war in the slums at home. At least Biker and kinda-sorta Richter still fit that bill, which is why Biker's my favorite character in the series' altogether narrative. He's doing it for fun. It may mean I'm demented, but I love how that characterization both amuses and terrifies the shit outta me.

Exactly.

dafuq? When I started the game today, the option to play in hard mode was gone (text is gone, pressing square doesn't work)

Save game seems fine. Ending VHS is still unlocked, my score for the last scene is still there.

Just finished the game, marvelous experience! Got in 11 hours, which I believe is considerably longer than the first. And dayum. the soundtrack is absolutely superb!!

More Hotline please!!!

Just figured out what "lethal throws" meant as an ability of one of the masks after playing 15 scenes, haha.

Fun game, but the difficulty of one of the early scenes was really frustrating even having played the first one to completion recently. Otherwise, the game's awesome and the soundtrack is amazing.

The Sniper Rifle is not unlocking for me, and I've played Stronghold using every weapon.

Really fucking annoying.

Edit: Randomly popped after another try with the flamethrower. I 'unno.

I actually ended up utilizing the dodge roll and mowed down ~10 enemies and a dog within 5 seconds. Move down immediately, punch the first guard, keep moving through the door, and dodge roll through the hail of bullets and into the next door, which should knock out the guys with the assault rifle. Pick up the assault rifle immediately and go crazy, making sure to take out the dog on the right.

Continuing from then on is dependent on whether you got a bullet in on the fat guy or not. Otherwise, you better try to pick up a gun asap because he's coming lol

Edit: and that dodge roll is surprisingly handy when you're about to be shot. I was wrong to say Zebra was useless

Beat the game on hard, never used the dodge roll once (unless you count accidentally rolling away from the guy I'm trying to execute)

Man, with Manny, I can't believe I didn't clue in on him
having someone bound in the boot of his car, and planting the wallet from one of his victims in Alex's house
.

More enemies

More special enemies (fatties, ninjas, etc)

Guns spawn with half ammo rounded down

Guns lose half ammo rounded down when dropped

Windows, windows everywhere

Cool. I'll try it I guess.

Nice strat! I've had very little success with the dodge roll so far so I try to avoid using it. Glad it worked out for you though :)

Yeah, I feel ya on that one. I really do.

Unfortunately Dennaton said that this is it. No DLC or sequel.

But...but...

In a way, it's likely a good thing it ends now while it's at it's pinnacle. I could do with more of the same but like James Cameron and the Terminator series, best to stop on a high.

I should go back and finish Hotline Miami 1 again. Love these games!

Same here.
No idea what that trippy hallucination level was about or what that 'boss' monster represented.
That and the scene after the credits is confusing although I think
that one dude and his mom just nuked the US.

I might be crazy.

Edit:more spoilers post game
neogafs OT title for this game couldn't be more perfect

Yeah, is there a singular explanation anywhere of what is going on with the story as well as secrets and such? Just finished the game tonight.

Watching the GB Quick Look on this and Alex mentions that you have to use the guns more than in the last game, and is using the gun a LOT (and constantly attracting more enemies and getting killed) and I have to say I think I feel the opposite. I almost always opted for melee mainly because of how easy it was to alert other thugs and have them on your ass in seconds.

Wrapped up the last few chapters, total playtime was 5 1/2 hours so it's slightly longer than the first game. The last level was pretty cool but the ending was lame.

I'll have to replay the first one to see which game I prefer but I liked this one's music better.

Where do you see how long it took you to beat the game

You don't. Unless you're using Steam and "time played."

Saw the Alpha editor today. I can understand why they're taking their time, it's extremely rough despite being "Alpha" status.

They didn't nuke the USA, the Russians did in retaliation to their President getting killed I believe. Richter and his mother just die in the explosion.

Also i just noticed in when you click on
Continue in the main menu, then switch over to hard mode, all the buildings in the background have been nuked

I just beat the game and I have no idea what just happened.

For a detailed explanation of the story go here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=407523040

The gist of the main plot that
Russia and the US go to war in 1985. Beard and Jacket are in a spec ops unit together in Hawaii. Beard saves Jacket's life and gives him the photo Jacket throws away at the end of HM1. Their commander Brandon goes crazy (you might remember that scene where he was wearing the panther's face). In 1986 San Fran is nuked by Russia and Beard dies in the explosion. This leads to peace between the two countries. The commander creates 50 Blessings (the group that was calling Jacket, Biker, Richter, etc) to kill Russians. The Russian murders lead to the Russian president arriving in America, which gives the commander the opportunity to assassinate both presidents. Why he did this there is no concrete answer for; I think he wanted to nuke Russia. But Russia nukes the US immediately. The end. All the other characters are pretty much irrelevant to the main plot.

  • Manny Pardo - The detective. He was the Miami Mutilator. You can see flashes of cameras in his scenes. He craves attentions for his murders but no one cares.
  • The Fans - Jacket copycats, except they have no Russians to kill because Jacket wiped the mafia out.
  • Jake - the Snake. Figures out the truth behind 50 Blessings, he supports them completely. Killed by Russians.
  • The Son - The son of the Russian Mob Boss Jacket kills in HM1. He rebuilds the Russian Mob and kills the Fans and himself on a bad trip.
  • The Henchman - A Russian Henchman that wants out of the game. Killed by the fans. Basically there to make you feel bad about slaughtering Russians and realize every nameless mook you've killed was just like him.
  • Pig Butcher - A metaphor for the player.

Finished the game. I loved it. Game had some pretty tough moments, but it was incredibly satisfying. And that soundtrack was INSANELY GOOD.

I've replayed the apocalypse 4 times now just for that transition to gorgeous 2001-style pixel credits.

The added scene* when you start a new game is pretty interesting too.

*or I completely forgot about this happening.
