Houston Chronicle Writer: Left 4 Dead 2 Is Racist!

I don't have a problem blasting Nazis in "Call of Duty" and "Medal of Honor." I don't have a problem lighting up Imperial Army soldiers with my flamethrower in "World at War." But I do have a problem blasting soldiers in our country's Civil War.

Fuck.... I quit.

No L4D2 thread cannot be complete without one of these comments!
What comments? That Left 4 Dead was horribly overpriced?

Eh? I like Draft, but disagree. I got more playtime out of L4D than any other FPS last year. I felt it was easily worth every penny.

edit: It should be noted that I don't believe for a second that every post Draft makes is him legitimately stating his opinion.

Is the Houston Chronicle a hugely popular newspaper in the US?

Just askin', because you guys seem to put a lot of stock into the author's opinion.

:lol

edit: this is gold, the guy has serious issues.
As much as I enjoy video games, I do not like having to play a part of history that I would like to forget and avoid, but can't.

Oh please :lol

I love the little kick to the head after the shove to the ground that this fine piece of journalism does.

"even if it's just a video game" indeed.

This is stupid.

SMH...

I know a few people at the Chronicle, I can tell you they judge the success (and future) of these blogs based on reader feedback. Get alot of responses, your blog stays and gets front page advertising. This blog is usually about straight games and about as uninformed as a guy working at EB. So for him to write some bullshit like this, he must have been told to get his numbers up.

The Chronicle continues to be a joke of a paper, but it is the only one we have in the city thanks to print dying all together.

Wait, wait... So this is a guy that has no problem with being a murderer in GTA4, but struggles to play a soldier in Call of Juarez?

Mindless bitching like this is going to make game designers stop including African Americans at all, as protagonists or antagonists.

I'm happy when we get black people in videogames at all these days, and no, I'm not a gigantic tool hypocrite that doesn't think it's okay to kill people of my skin color like the thousands of white/orange/purple/blue/green faceless baddies I've been killing for years.

Wasn't there some guy who tried to argue that Far Cry 2 was racist? Just because it was set in Africa and some of the enemies are black? SMH if so.

They're fucking zombies. Who cares about cultural sensitivity, kill them all!

Another game, "Resident Evil 5," puts gamers into the heart of Africa, blasting zombies. I bet you'll never guess what color they are.

purple?
honestly is the guy in this paragraph complaining that you have to kill black people in motherfucking africa?

I love it when people complain about minorities being represented as minorities.

Also, wasn't Katrina like fucking ages ago ? Shit lets get all those WW2 games off the shelf too!

Er....nope? The impact it had on the city will last an easy 5-10 years.

Still a dumbass article though

Valve is nationalist. None of the protagonists or zombies are Canadian.

I want zombies with beaver hats, hockey sticks, and a painted red maple leaf on their chest.

yeah, it was a while ago. but being a new orleans resident you still see the effects from time to time.

anyway, when i first saw the game footage i thought, "huh, that look a lot like post-katrina new orleans". like a few months aftewards new orleans looked a lot like that, lots of chain fences going up, port-a-potties for all the workers that were down here, busses bringing people back home.....it really did look like that. i don't think that has anything to do with the game being racist though. honestly, i don't see how anybody can see something malicious in L4D2, and i'm a black new orlenian! me and my girlfriend can't wait to play it as we're always talking about how cool it would be to have more games set in a place familiar to us.
