Had work at 6am in Katy (live in Stafford). The roads started to flood more and more the closer I got to Katy. Had to turn back around.

Still expected to go into work later. Yay retail!

I am surprised someone went out to turn the power back on the neighborhood.

Man I am lucky the drainage here was good. The street looked like a rapid river but it kept the water levels down.

Flooded all around here,(thankfully not in my house) I want to come in for work but I'm heeding the warnings of not going out, I"d hate missing work, I mostly drive through barker cypress to get to work, can anybody tell me if they live around that area if it's safe driving on Barker Cypress?
Check the Houston transit site.

I am glad I paid extra for the flood insurance even though so far...have not needed it.

Just one pic of the action in the house. The couches are on crates...... Only good thing is the couches were old and need of replacing, but the carpet was brand new there. And the rest of the downstairs is all hardwood which was ruined, I haven't gone back into the kitchen lately to see how the cabinets/appliances fared, I know the washing machine and dryer are ruined since they were a bit lower. All I am hearing is gurgling noises right now.

I did save the dehumidifier which will come in quite handy as seen in the pic, lol.

Can't leave the apartment because our parking lot is flooded. Bottom of the tires are covered up, so that means the rest of the lot has water that might get in through the doors.

No sense in even worrying about what the rest of my commute looks like since I can't even get out of here.

Power still out using data. Boss called asking if I was coming in. No, not in the middle of b a nasty storm during a flood. Wasn't too happy.

looked out my window it looked like niagra falls coming off my roof.

i think this is god's way of telling me not to work today

It's stopped raining on my side of town, but still reading about flooded streets. Not looking forward to going to work at all.

Rode my motorcycle in to work from Fresno to the IAH area. Not sure how I'm going to get home.

I hit a patch of high water on my way in and my bike was running rough in the parking garage. I hope it starts later

All's well in Austin so far. Some thunder and lightning every hour, but it's just a calm rain right now.

Waller Creek is being merciful thus far. NPR was saying a good portion of Highway 71 is underwater.

Man I woke up at 5 AM and got ready for work. I knew it was pouring out there for a while and did think of the possibility of flooding. It's happened before but it don't come across it on my commute since it's so early.

I pulled out of this driveway water is kinda starting to gather up on my street, but looks pretty normal. I drive towards the main road, start noticing water and actually look up ahead and the main road is flooded. Man I slammed on those breaks so hard and reversed. Fuck that shit.

I called my manager to let him know I won't be coming in at 6 AM, and he's having the same problem but he managed to somehow work through it. He had to let me go as soon as he turn into our office's street.

I called my boss and apparently nobody showed up to work so I'm in the clear here, I'm all set, stay safe Houston-GAF

damn he fired you right then and there? hard world

nigga I never made it out of my neighborhood. Called them and told them whats up

Yeah it's physically impossible (via vehicle) to drive into work this morning.

Sorry dude who got fired. Your boss sounds like a jerk. Somebody should make him flood his car while he attempts to drive into work.

NW Houston here and yeah it's pretty flooded around here. You can't really drive a mile out of the neighborhood and not find a flooded street.

Jesus Christ, I would be livid. This is the sort of scenario that might just make me violent.

I saw on the weather channel that this rain is apparently going to last until FRIDAY. jfc
Yup. We've already gotten in one night other states entire yearly rainfall. And it's just gonna keep coming.

I'd really like it I'd the news went out and found some jackals Bostonian or new yorker in events like this, like they do when we get the random once every few years ice storm. And they sit there wondering what the big deal is about the ice saying "this is nothing"
And interview them when its raining like a monsoon.

So many emergency alerts right now. Man, we're supposed to have rain all week....this is gonna be bad.

Holy shit at all of those folks on the Beltway.

i don't think 'he let me go' was him getting fired. i think that was his boss gettin off the phone so he doesn't drown lol.

Also, I'm always amazed at how shitty school districts are at making decisions with this kind of stuff.

he let you go as in he hung up the phone or as in he fired you? Cause I'd bet money his ass is the only one in the office.

There was a tornado in my neighborhood on the southwest side of Lake Houston this morning. I was headed to work in Baytown about 15-20 minutes before all hell broke loose back home.

Checking in...

Willowbrook-ish area:
Streets got a lot of water rolling through in my subdivision but the drainage systems appear to be in working order, thankfully. My back yard has a lot of water pockets and draining into the little drains (we have a handful lining the back yard in a U shape) pretty well. Nothing has crept up onto our back porch yet. My house sits up on the top of a mild incline so we should be good.

My wife tried to leave this morning around 8:30 to get to an appointment, but said she couldn't even get onto 249 from our area. Had to turn around in the middle of an intersection and come back home. The rain isn't bad anymore, but the water just takes time to drain out.

Ugh, at least I'm unemployed right now and don't have anywhere to be...

As in he had to hang up on the phone since he was driving. Trust me, there's no way my manager would fire me like that on the spot. He's not an asshole like that. Sorry for the confusion. Did give me a few good laughs though. XD

Good deal.

Meyerland is flooding into homes AGAIN? Are you fucking serious? They just got their homes rebuilt from the Memorial Day flooding.

Do we put the city flooding to somebody's blame? Or is it just nature.

Is it city engineers to blame? The Grand Parkway freeway is flooded, and that just got built.

The Harris County Flood map is a good resource. Pretty much all the flooded areas are in the flood plain zones...including 99.

City engineers do the best they can I'm sure. Houston is built on a swamp. There's nowhere for the water to go. Stay safe everyone. I'll be hoping for you guys from far away.

This is a fuckton of rain. I doubt there's any city on earth that could handle 10-20 inches of rain in the amount of time we've gotten it and not flood.
