How are the PSP God of War games?

Chains of Olympus and Ascension are by far the worst games in the series.

Chains of olympus atleast gets a pass because its the first PSP GOW, and they were trying to figure out what they could do with it. Ascension has the best graphics of the series, but the shittiest everything else, and i don't even see how it could be.

Its basiclly the Gears of War Judgement of Playstation.

Ghost of sparta is indeed great though.

I honestly think tat Ghost of Sparta might be my favorite game in the series. Chains of Olympus is good, too, but it's one of the weaker entries in the series.

It's also still crazy what Reaty At Dawn did with PSP with Ghost of Sparta. it looks amazing even compared to modern handheld/mobile games. Pretty much only hampered by the poor resolution of PSP (going by modern standards).

It and BBS both still look spectacular. PSP was a special machine.

I mean, you're only not counting one game

You mean the Order 1886? Because it is a very odd duck in their line up :l.

It is doing the same thing Daxter and their GOW games did; take a gameplay style (Gears of War in the case of the Order) and do unique spins on it. But it didn't work out sadly and while the game looked amazing, the gameplay itself pales in comparison to their PSP titles.

At this point they're just God of War games on a PSP so it all depends on how much you like the series. But at the time they were visual marvels considering the platform.

Chains of Olympus is pretty good for a PSP game, but I was a bit disappointed when I bought it on day 1 and literally beat it in one sitting.

Ghosts of Sparta on the other hand is a great God of War game and a technical marvel on the PSP. I'd say it's the third best GoW game after 2 and 3.

But if you play these games I'd recommend playing the PS3 remasters over the PSP originals. Better performance and easy Platinum trophies :D

CoO is an a good game. I think it is worth it for the end game as it is one of the more memorable scenes in the series

Ghost of Sparta is a terrific game. And should'nt be missed if you like the series. Easily in my top 3 of GoW games

Ghost of Sparta is one of the best in the series. Very fun combat, an excellent story, and one of my go to examples for massive quality jumps between sequels.

Chains of Olympus feels very dated gameplay wise but also has a solid story.

Ghost of Sparta is the 2nd best game in the series IMO, CoO is well worth playing too.

You really should play Ascension though, there are plenty on GAF that really like it. Has easily the best combat of the series.

I liked Ascension but the combat was my biggest complaint. The locking of combos behind the rage meter, which was a pain in the ass to fill, felt like it took away far too much of Kratos' moveset.

Ghost of Sparta is the 2nd best game in the series (behind GOW 2).

Chains of Olympus is pretty short (3-4 hrs) and doesn't have any annoying jumping/balancing parts like the mainline games.

Preferred them to the console versions. Pretty good and for some reason Kratos and the tone seemed a lot less grafting than I normally find them.

CAN I SAY SOMETHING IMPORTANT? Avoid playing the God of War games on the PSP if possible. That left analog stick rubbed my thumb raw.

I just beat Chains of Olympus now, I'll play something else before jumping into GoS to avoid fatigue

As I said in the OP it's been a few years since I played a GoW game so it felt pretty fresh, and the formula may be simple but it's fun, fight, puzzle, traverse etc, and when it's paced well it's great

I thought it fell apart a little at the end, with the final pre boss area being rooms of enemies over and over. It's a short game (took me just under 5 hours) so it feels like that was added just to pad things out

The story was pretty bland up until the end, where it does tug at your heart strings a little, overall I enjoyed the game, but wouldn't say it's as good as 1-3, but it's an admirable effort for a handheld prequel

It looked and played great on PS3, can't believe this was originally a PSP game

I'm looking forward to playing GoS since most people seem to agree it's the superior game

If you enjoyed the other games I would REALLY recommend Ascension. I really think it's a case of GAF just being weird. It's not much different at all from the rest of the series, and is certainly better than the PSP games.

I mean. I liked them at one point, but recently I've tried to revisit the GoW series after having played Bayo 2 and DMC 4 and. Well GoW doesn't do it at all for me. If you like the series I don't think you'll go wrong with these games but I have serious fatigue of the series.

Chains Of Olympus is a fantastic game. While short, it really is a fun experience with some excellent nods to GOW2. It also makes two plot points in GOW3 make a lot more sense, specifically
Helios mentioning the debt he owes Kratos when pleading for his life,
and
Persephone's casket which you use to get to the fight with Hades.

Ghost Of Sparta is less relevant to the series in terms of the plot, but gameplaywise it is the second most challenging, a larger game than COO with some very memorable boss fights. It is also a very beautiful game, especially considering its PSP roots.

Both are absolutely worth playing--think of Chains as GOW 0.5 and Ghost as GOW 1.5 (or 1.33 if you want to include the long-forgotten mobile game, Betrayal, as 1.66)
