How can people stand the smell of vinegar?

Really? It's one of the most basic, inoffensive things you could have in your pantry. It's like saying you can't stand olive oil or baking soda.

Remember, this is GAF. Someone is gonna come in here and say they can't stand pizza or cookies or something.

Vinegar on my french fries all day err day.

Vinegar smells fucking disgusting and leaves a weird ass taste in your mouth when you catch a strong whiff of it sometimes. Gross.

Vinegar is awesome and no OP, I don't have some sort of "mental block" based around the smell and taste. You can say you don't like it or even hate it, but don't knock people who love the stuff.

Vinegar is awesome. I have at least half a dozen varieties in my pantry, from white to cider, balsamic, red wine, rice, etc.

They're essential for all sorts of dressings, marinades, and sauces. Without vinegar there would be no sweet and sour, no BBQ sauce, no adobo...

Well, maybe I could do without adobo.

I wouldn't say the smell is pleasant, especially when your cooking with it, but it's not hugely offensive to me. It also dose a mighty fine job of clearing the sinuses if you accidently get a whiff from right above the pan. The taste though, Oh the taste. I <3 Vinegar.

I agree. Vinegar stank.

Should be a schedule one drug for that offensive odor it gives off.
Vinegar and salt chips are criminal. Shit smell like toes.

Salt and vinegar kettle potato chips are goddamn amazing. I don't keep them in the house, but always get a bag with my sandwich if I'm eating at Firehouse.

I love vinegar. I drink a glass of water with 2oz of apple cider vinegar every day.

I'm with you!

I drink vinegar straight out of a shot glass (for real, though not every day). I also hear that apple cider vinegar is supposed to have some sort of huge health benefits, but I don't know how true/factual that is.

Light apple (cider) vinegar (~5% concentration) is OK in dressings/etc. The regular 9% stuff not so much. It smells slightly... hobo-ey. I use it when boiling eggs to weaken their shells for easier peeling.

I wish I could afford even a small bottle of proper balsamic. No, not the one usually found in shops, the real one made exclusively from evaporated fermented mosto cotto.

I was told by my new hair stylist that using apple cider vinegar instead of conditioner is like magic for your hair.

I'm definitely going to try it out. Apple cider vinegar is nectar of the gods apparently since it has so many beneficial uses.

I mean, if you just take a big whiff of vinegar right out of the bottle, sure it smells bad, but a bit on food is great. Aren't pretty much all condiments vinegar based? Ketchup, mustard, barbecue, etc.?

My wife does that at least once a month, her head smells like a salad for a while ;p

Hair looks good though

I also really dislike the smell of vinegar. Never liked the taste, either.

But, even so, I still keep some white vinegar around. It's an awesome cleaner.

It makes me retch.

Being in the company of people who eat salt and vinegar potato chips has almost made me chuke on more than one occasion.

It's one of the most foul smelling things I've ever come into contact with.

I used to dislike it too(mainly due to the smell of it when used for cleaning purposes), but damn, salt+vinegar chips...mmmmmmm mmm mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

You're missing out OP.

It did wonders for my acid reflux. Thats what I originally started to take it for. Then I started liking it. I have not had a sore stomach in a very long time.

It's liquid crack

I used to actually pour it onto salt+vinegar chips for extra vinegary chip scoops. Sooooooooo gooooooood

Majority of Posters here like the scent of vinegar?

Great thread for adding most ppl here to my ignore list in one fell swoop!

I don't mind the taste of vinegar, but I absolutely hate the smell. My Mom used to pickle things when I was growing up and the smell would permeate the whole house and make me gag. I would retreat to the bedroom and stuff a towel under my door.

I don't like the smell of wine either, which makes sense.

Vinegar cleans though. Purifies. But I don't use it with much. It's definitely strong but it's not foul (smelling).

Olive oil...I soak everything in that.
