How come no one makes a Next-gen Helicopter game?

DIE!!!! :lol

Seriously! I love helicopters. I wish there was a game where you fly missions and even get to man guns and shoot missles!

Something like this for example:

Awww, I was hoping the other topic was closed because of some sort of fascist anti-helicoptor agenda. Like it was understood why there were no goddamn helicoptor games and you drug it up.

There's helicopters in Warhawk?

No, but it'll supply your hovering air turret needs though... :)

I agree though, I wish there was a cool helicopter game... I'd be happy for a new verticle scrolling next-gen Tigerheli... how ****ing cool would that be... which, brings me back to the point of various scrolling shooters are needed... I could only imagine how how they'd look!

Oh and... Airwolf rocks!!!

Largely because they don't sell.

If somebody made a helicopter (blackhawks, apaches, etc) game in the style of Ace Combat, it would sell. They could add in rescue missions, support missions, search and destroy, extractions, etc. I'd buy it in a second.

Anyways, did people forget about that Ubi release list? It had a game called Tom Clancy's Firehawk on it. I'd bet that's either a jet figher or a helicopter combat game.

umm, warhawk?

No thanks. Warhawk might be good, but I'd want a semi-realistic helicopter game.

Get Mercenaries, it was originally going to be a successor to Soviet Strike when they were talking with EA to be the publisher.

The best game in this regard is Enemy Engaged: Comanche-Hokum, if you can find it it's still a great game. If I'm not mistaken it featured a war engine that could play entirely without you; that is, it really played a war by itself and you simply hopped on a helo going on a mission whenever you liked.

You could even play it cooperatively online, which rocked.. If you added the prequel into the fray you got two additional helos and two more campaigns.

That was really the best helo game ever.

EA's great Strike series needs a non-suck next-gen version. Jungle Strike is still my favorite, but I'd only played that and Soviet Strike. They could be quite challenging, but still a lot of fun IMO. Bring it back, EA. PEACE.

What I'm looking for in a game:

* Escort, rescue missions. Using radar and visual clues to locate personnel, transport
* Night Assults. Using stealth tactics. You fly your chopper to a LZ, then take your commandos RS:Vegas style (by that I mean arcady, not Ghost Recon) to execute missions, then high tail it out of there with your chopper.
*Hit and Run missions where you basically have to destroy command posts, enemy combatants in trenches to make way for your ground troops.

*Aerial Dogfights with other Helis, etc.

The reason these games are no popular is that they border too much on the SIM side. It should be very arcady to make it accessible and fun.

Comanche 4 is the only one that does all that, except you escort the chopper with the commandos. but you do get to see them rappel to the ground and use their little M16/M203s on enemy troops.

Oh snap, a helicopter game would be so bad-assed on the - wait for it - WII! Only you'd be the helicopter, and you'd swing your arms in the air to simulate the helicopter blade, you'd be like, "swoosh!" as you fly around your house spinning your hand around. Put a second Wiimote in your back pocket so you could simulate the tail rotor...

The chopper levels were the only good thing about Pilot wings! It's the only thing I would replay in that game.

I also spent plenty of hours with this

I still have it...maybe I'll pop it in for some nastolgic laughs. Virgin games...lolz

Try the enemy engaged series (Apache vs Havoc etc.) or Apache Longbow from EA, that one you got to fly the Black Hawk. The Avionics suites were pretty realistic as well as the flight models (I know I tested this when I was in Ft. Hood when I crewed Black Hawks)

Enemy Engaged 2 just got a publisher (Strategy First) for the PC. I really liked the first one, and I'm definitely looking forward to an updated version-it's been a long time since that came out.

If you're looking for an arcadey helicopter game, the other recommendations in this thread would be better. :)

Still the best Helicopter game ever. I miss the Janes sims, perfect balance between realism and fun.

So that would make this a third in the series as Commanche came after Apache. Wonder what they're featuring next as the main Gunships.

And the only one that had the Black Hawk flyable. We used to "fly" this often with our Ch/Thustmaster HOTAS, sad as our actual flying time with our Black Hawk fleet was for the most part non-existent due to Army budget constraints (one NTC we went through 1.5 mil worth in Blades!)

So sad that that PC gaming doesnt support the sim genre anymore, :( cause that was the genre that got me into PC gaming.

That was my first combat sim! My best friend and I used to alternate between pilot and co-pilot with that. It was that game and the god awful Firehawks with Nicholas Cage that got us to join the Army flight program in the first place.
