How dead is the Chrono series?

Oh I know he worked on it. It was minor. But I'm just saying that if he had a bigger part in a new Chrono game, it would be most likely wouldn't feel like Chrono Trigger.

Btw, I actually enjoy his games.

What does Chrono feel like? Being that Trigger and Cross are vastly different from one another.

What is Kato up to anymore? Last I heard he was still working on FFXI stuff, but that would have been a number of years ago now... He's really the only person I'd trust with the Chrono series as far as story goes.

He is the writer for that upcoming 3DS game with the incredibly generic game: Legend of Legacy.

Did you know M. Night Shyamalan once directed a good movie called the Sixth Sense?

I don't really care what the guy did or didn't do 10 years ago.
Right here and right now he sucks, specially because every modern game he has been involved with (specially as director) ends up having the story equivalent of a 12 years old kid trying to write a "deep and emotional story".

Modern Chrono by Nomura would star a version of Chono that looks like a memeber of a japanese Boy Band and is basically an angsty teen struggling with the "the dark chains that have taken over his aching heart" or some BS like that

PS: Also he was a " field graphic artist" in Chrono Trigger.
Sort of .... slightly... different than game director or writer

So, aside from Kingdom Hearts series which has been targeted towards broader audience especially including younger children and has strong influence from Disney, tell me another game which Nomura directed that you've played and has a story equivalent of a 12 years old kid trying to write a "deep and emotional story".

I like his games, but I agree that the stories tend to be not that great. I'm hoping Final Fantasy 15 has a good story, and great characters.

Not dead, dormant. Sooner or later someone at Square Enix will bring it back, whether it's for business reasons, creative reasons or both. Could happen in 20 years, could happen next year. But it's going to happen.

Yeah, I always wanted to see him direct another game... Many might say the series is better off dead, but as long as Kato would be on the team, a new Chrono would turn out fine I think.

He worked on Ninja Gaiden 3 as a writer kind of as a novelty since he worked on the NES games. Very recently he is the writer on the team making that SaGa like game Legend of Legacy. Seems like the most promising project he's been with in years, but we'll see.

Chrono's back, baby!

Sorry. My son was talking about the Chrono series and I searched GAF for a thread and saw this which I found amusing. :D

Haha, as soon as I saw the first post and the date of the thread I knew someone necroed for some good ol' crow eatin'.

It's amazing how a single conference changed so many running jokes.

I remember this thread. I even posted in it while it was going. Sooooo....

As dead as a FFVII Remake

Heh.

As dead as The Last Guardian.

Heh.

As dead as the Mother series is.

(Earthbound Beginnings)

As dead as the rest of those jrpgs from that era that are not money makers and nobody buys..... Really sad state in gaming when everything is a shooter or sports....

JRPG is dead jim.

(A shit ton of JRPGs announced within a year)

Sequel will release day and date with Shenmue Life 3.

MMhmm.

And Resident Evil 2 Remake announced today. Your move Square Enix!...Uh...again!

Dunno, new S-E is putting out new non-mobile SaGa, Nier, Star Ocean, as well as rumored Front Mission and Mana game. FF7 Remake is happening. Anything can happen at this point.

All 3 Chrono Trigger directors are still at S-E (Tokita, Matsui and Kitase) and Horii is still involved with S-E.

I'd still say the chances are slim but there isn't any -major- roadblock.

Edit: oops, old thread. But yeah, still.
